Staff were lovely
plug socket behind bed off wall poor night entertainment
Good location & friendly staff. Room was comfortable and warm.
Outside is very off-putting. Needs repainting and better signage. Breakfast time is very restricted (1 hour between 8.30am & 9.30am). Rooms have to be vacated by 10am which takes me back to the days of seaside landladies. Breakfast OK but not over-generous. Shower/WC room a bit cramped. Overall I would class the hotel as average.
Value, Good location Good breakfast
Bed was very creaky and umcomfortable
staff were friendly, accommodation was comfortable. Hotel is in easy walking distance of Shanklyn high street. Nice bar and evening entertainment was laid on
en suite had bath only- no shower
A classic old seaside hotel well past it's heyday, but clean comfortable & friendly. Loved sitting in the huge, deserted bar on a Saturday night & imagining when it was crowded with guests about 50 years ago. Also loved the 1940's wooden cigarette machine! Fair play to the owners keeping this quirky & characterful old building alive & kicking!
Limited car parking space, but on street parking in the area.
price, good breakfast, close to the beach, quiet area, kettle in room with tea and instant coffee
Friendly staff, good food. Building needs some tlc but generally good. Entertainment good if you wanted to partake. Staff remember visitors from earlier bookings. Asked for a room on first floor and was successful.
Staff noisy when preparing breakfast before residents are awake. Some interior decor needs attending to but generally good.
Badly in need of an up-date. Shower was just too filthy to be used
Great location Friendly staff Clean Decent value for money OK breakfast but fairly limited selection and small portions Room size
Very poor dinner with limited choice and small portions Dated inside and out Needs refurbishing
This is a budget hotel where you pay a budget price, it fits the bill in this regard. The staff were very kind - I even got an upgrade to twin room as I wanted a soak in a bath following a fell race :-) The bed was comfortable and clean. And there was no noise from any other rooms or outside.
I saw, ahem, certain body hairs in the corner of the bathroom.
Breakfast was very good, staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Reasonable price for the quality. Good if you are looking for somewhere to just lay your head.
Extremely basic rooms that needed modernising as we felt as if we had stepped back to the 70's. The televisions only had four channels and were the old style portables. The bathrooms again needed modernising ie shower curtains were frilly from the 80s. The kettle had to be put on the floor as the lead couldnt reach the plug which I thought was dangerous. I only found one plug in my room to do my hairdryer or phone charging. There was stains or damp on the walls or ceilings and to top it off the housekeeping came in the room whilst I was at breakfast on my last day to strip the bed and empty the bins before I had even checked out!!
You can't beat the price £50 per night for 2 people inc breakfast and in a good location.
Hotel a little run down and breakfast could have been hotter but if it's cheap, which our stay was, then can't complain too much.
Poor rooms, lots of stairs, minimal breakfast
Location, friendly helpful staff, comfy bed, cleanliness, old-fashioned charm
For £25 B&B not one word of complaint from me
Good value and good fun. Bar staff excellent.
Room small and unable to get an early breakfast. Staff still obliged with a sandwich and cereal.
Friendly and helpful staff Clean Room Good choice at breakfast
Very dated decor, and facilities in need of upgrading to make it a hotel you would want to go back to.
Location and hot water in shower
Too many stairs and no lift, scruffy old fashioned rooms and dusty around the edges, food basic, very noisy, sounds like people are in your room and bathroom, water pipes noisy, doors slamming all the time, can hear everything
Reception staff very friendly and helpful
Hotel looks and feels very tired and dated. Breakfasts were poor and pre-prepared
Nice quiet location but close to the shops and bus station. Also very close to the beach area.
For what we paid and what we expected there were no negatives. Your not paying 5* prices so don't expect a 5* hotel.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the location of the hotel was good.
The hotel was very dated and dirty. In need of a deep clean everywhere. Even the clean towels we were given were dirty!!!! Breakfast would have been nice if it had been served hot. My daughter does not drink tea or coffee but was not allowed any extra orange juice. I could go on but really I think I'll leave it there.
The Hotel had parking on site. The location was within walking distance of shops and beach. Large Room for entertainment and large room for restaurant. Breakfast was OK.
The parking was a bit all over the place with not proper spaces. The Hotel interior and exterior is in need of some TLC and updating. Plumbing desperately needs attention with very loud noises when being used from the taps, WC, sink & shower from not only our room but also when others are using (day or night). Room was very small with furniture that didnt fit properly, no bedside cabinets. Bed quite old and squeaky. Staff doing one job then popping up somewhere else doing another. Breakfast was only a one hour slot, 8.30-9.30, slightly inconvenient. There were a few foreigners for breakfast who did not speak or understand much english and it was not explained properly what was on offer, could have been dealt with more professionally. Waitress was quite put out when told by her superior.
Good location. Good breakfast.
Room not in great shape, not very clean. The whole hotel definitely needs a refurbishment. I think it's overpriced.
Staff was really friendly and helpful and only a short walk down to one of the best beaches in IOW
In this day an age internet facilities should be included in the package as everybody needs to use it especially with children as only three channels on TV does not help with nothing for kids. Breakfast should have few more options especially in juices.
the staff were friendly the room was clean
This hotel was like a remake of Faulty Towers. We booked half board and when we got there were astonished to discover that dinner ran from only 6.30-7pm and breakfast from 8.30-9.30am!!!! The breakfast was typical of a B&B but the dinner was atrocious - and I would not feed it to my worst enemy - imagine school dinners form the 1970's meets the 200 yr old rusting tins from the film 'City of Ember': cheap nasty food out of a packet and nothing actually fresh - packet mashed potatoes, stuck together white rice, frozen vegetables, 'curry' like vomit (to the extent my daughter had to go to the room to throw up afterwards), rice pudding and liver on the menu! and that cheap horrible value pack vanilla icecream, not even wine on the menu - and you get the picture - it was so appalling we got the giggles - as it was a choice between laughing or crying about it - and even more surreal was a silver service style waiter service to serve it!! We cancelled the dinner first thing the next morning for the rest of ostay but when we checked out the manager refused to give us any money back apparently because we had used booking.com to make the reservation and they would ask for their commission anyway whether we had actually cancelled dinner or not and because he had 'bought' the food!!! Although the hotel appeared to be freshly painted the decor was awful - really cheap and outdated - with a bar like a working man's club!! - This hotel could actually be a nice hotel as the location is great and the grounds have potential - but it seriously needs a hotel 'doctor' to sort it out. There were no facilities for children in contrast to neighbouring 'guest houses' on the block which had swings, pleasant outside seating and trampolines. If you are an elderly person who likes bingo and school dinners served to you - then this is a good place - if not - stay well away !
We were not treated nicely on the last day of our visit. They gave us cold toasts when we asked them to bring more toasts when we had breakfast. I didn't know that having 6 more pieces of toasts was that hard.
