Torquay is a great place to unwind, relax and get away from it all. The mild climate and stunning scenery have made it a popular resort since Victorian times and it is easy to see why. Its elegant white villas and famous 7 hills provide the backdrop to popular modern facilities such as the Riviera Centre and a busy shopping mall.
Torquay's waterfront is the focus of life in the town; here, you'll find the palm lined promenade, a lively harbour and an international marina. There is a wide range of cosmopolitan restaurants and plenty of specialist local seafood eateries unique to the area.
Nearby is the charming village of Cockington, where you can wander around the thatched cottages, enjoy a cream tea, and stroll through acres of woodland, or maybe enjoy a drink at the Drum Inn.
Paignton, with its sandy beaches and busy shopping centre, is a lively resort only 3 miles (5 km) from Torquay. A little further around Torbay, you come to the historic port of Brixham with its busy fishing fleet. Dartmoor, the largest wilderness in southern England is less than an hour's drive away, and the cities of Plymouth and Exeter are also both less than an hour away.
Of course, if you prefer something a little more active, there are sports of all kinds available nearby, including sea angling, walking, golf and bowls.
There are also plenty of local attractions in the surrounding area and lots to see and do. With Melba House as a comfortable, relaxing base, you can visit Paignton Zoo, Babbacombe model village, Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway, Kents Cavern and the Riviera Centre, Torquay's indoor beach with its giant flume and a wave machine.
