small room with no sound proofing in wall with next bedroom/bathroom
The room we booked was meant to be a superior room - the room we were shown was in need of decoration - there was a mark on the side of the bed - it was cramped - we were told that we should only put the paper provided down the toilet (!!!) anything else should go in the bin - there would be no proper breakfast served but a cold breakfast would be left on a tray in our room that evening ready for the morning - we were offered orange juice, cereal and a cheese sandwich. Coffee we could provide from the hospitality tray - I understand that a cooked breakfast may not be available but I would expect a decent continental breakfast - when we booked in although the manager was pleasant - we sat at a table (in need of a clean) waiting for him to check the room was ready and he had to ask whether we wanted a double or twin (already determined on our booking) - the way to the bedrooms was through a door marked toilets - he then steered us outside and up a fire escape to the room he thought would suit us. Only the fire door was between the room and the outside - looked like a garage that had been converted - not conducive at all to a pleasant evening - to view the TV we would have had to lie on the bed and the tv was small - this room is not fit for purpose let alone superior. We went straight to our car and drove home, the pleasant break we had envisaged, spoiled
I used the Melbourne Arms while visiting my daughter at university. It was a delightful stay where we were impressed by the friendly and helpful staff. The food was good and our room was clean and comfortable.
We couldn't find anyone when we left at 9 am so had to put the room key into the postbox. It was a shame as we were going to say what a lovely stay we had had and put a tip in the restaurant 'staff tips' box!
big noise from a street no wifi
I have never met such friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble.
Very helpful staff
On arrival I was greeted by a lovely gentleman who made sure I didn't wait to register. Another gentleman arrived and new my name and after registering, took me to my upgraded room (I booked a single but they had a double free.) The room was great value for money. I'm someone who accepts that one gets what one pays for, so, I am not going to say anything bad about this establishment. Lovely people made me feel welcome. The room was clean and the Inn was near Calke Abbey which was my reason for being in the area.
Good value for money
Basically a curry house with accommodation Hard bed hard pillows dirty shower had to put kettle on floor as cord not long enough Empty restaurant for breakfast no music Breakfast only served 7.00 till 7.50 Specifically told if you appear at 0800 the chef will be gone One guy night watchman cook waiter Weird feeling being told to leave by back door as nobody would be there until 1200... Hey it was a bed for night after flying back from Spain Breakfast was edible £45 for double you get what you pay for Good value for money
traditional..no frills, clean ,comfortable welcoming staff/owner
The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food is top class and it has a 5 star rating from the local council, the best curry i have ever had and the breakfast was also first rate, car park has cctv in operation.
Ok food in the restaurant Melbourne is a nice place
Could hear every single noise from the couple next door!! Funny smell in the room - stale/ Damp Only access to room is through an outdoor fire escape! Bed uncomfortable Poor breakfast Breakfast times were limited. Told the time. No WIFI available except in one corner of the bar but couldn't access as nobody knew the correct password!
Value for money Good service Breakfast
Good price Free toiletries and coffee items provided Onsite restaurant was good Friendly staff Rooms adequate
Windows covered in spiders Bathroom could have been cleaned a bit more thoroughly Room was cold and oil heater took a long time to heat up Bedding was thin and quite basic Breakfast was served between 7-8am which was ridiculously early considering we were out until 4am and the only guests staying in the hotel, would have appreciated more flexibility here. The breakfast was the cheapest of quality, very poor small sausages, cheap bacon, no choice of eggs (only fried) and only beans offered.. No tomatoes or mushrooms offered. Not worth waking up so early for!
The helpfulness of all the staff at the Melbourne Arms was really impressive, they looked after our every wish during our two night stay .The room was clean and comfortable with ample tea and coffee making facilities .
Really friendly and welcoming staff, great Indian food, good beer, traditional albeit basic and dated rooms with basic en-suite ...good nights sleep ...great value !!
only 2 miles from donnington race track
bit out dated
great location to donnington race track
bad smell through.
Perfectly adequate for a short stay.
Freindly service, good Indian food. We didnt arrive untill 10.15pm it was no problem getting a meal, which was verry nice, gone before breakfast so I can't comment on it, but the owner was willing to get us cereal for our rooms.
The rooms could do with a fresh coat of paint, but they were clean and tidy.
The food. Location Staff(Owners a nice guy) Value for money(Half that of a T lodge) Substantial, secure car park(ideal for trackday cars on trailers).
Room wasn't as clean as ideal in corners of bathroom. Some may find noise an issue as close to the main road(though not buisy) and airport.I wear earplugs so not a problem. Also weather was warm so I slept with the windows open which would increase noise.
breakfast (english type) wasn't good, greasy, unhealthy, there was no choice of fresh products, what is quite standard in this area anyway; rooms are small, worn out; in every possible place there are warnings: "don't do this", "don't do that", "cctv in operation", etc, feels like you're being watched all the time; restaurant serves Indian food, very low quality; the place charged my card in advance for the whole stay, not at the end;
They put up a packed lunch for me as I left before breakfast was served
Lots of green space for sitting outside. Room had everything you could possibly need and the bed was very comfy. Excellent breakfast (except the sausages!) and the Indian food was excellent.
Check in advertised from 12 noon but our rooms were,nt ready till 1.30 so had to get changed for a party in the ladies loo.
Welcoming staff. Good Indian cuisine.
Poor breakfast, possibly due to cultural reasons (didn't think Indian catering involved using pig meat, if so why not offer an alternative to bacon and sausages, i.e. kedgeree). Wonder what an Indian breakfast would consist of?
