We were doing a motorcycle track day at Donington race track so needed to be close as we had to be there for 7am, It was only a few miles away and the pics and description looked good. The rooms are basic and 'well lived in', not dirty but in need of updating. The 'secure' parking was not all that secure, they do have basic cctv but I dont consider putting two traffic cones across the carpark enterance at night as being 'secure parking' when we had £25,000 worth of race bikes in the back of our van. But by far the worst thing was the very over priced food. The only word for it was diabolical, I through up 20 mins after eating it, my mate managed to hang onto his for 2 hours before he was sick & had stomache pains and frequent trips to the loo all the next day. For £5 less we could have stayed at the new Holiday Inn.....i'd give it a wide birth if I were you.

I didn't really like anything about the Melbourne Arms. Didn't reserve my room in the correct name, leading to confusion on arrival and then a sarky comment about giving me a double room when I had booked a single....the place was full so not done out of generosity!; Over-smarmy, far-from-genuine "welcome" from what I think was the owner; sad remains of an English pub overwhelmed by the smell of an Indian restaurant; very noisy bathroom fan; tiny tv; nowhere to sit comfortably in the room; nowhere to write in room; nowhere to sit comfortably at all; soul-less pub area - horrid; large restaurant, almost empty; having to pay the evening before leaving, (including room though supposedly paid on booking, leading to uncertainty), meal arrived in no time at all hardly prepared especially and the pilau rice was only long-grain, with yellow colouring - shameful!; Breakfast baked beans were rationed, so few you could count them and the bacon tasted like it had been cooked in the curry pan; weak tea; encouraged to leave immediately after breakfast, and if not leaving quickly enough, obliged to go out of a door with a much longer walk to the car park. The Boss doesn't bother to even show his face, leaving breakfast, goodbyes and all housekeeping to one overworked, but pleasant and obliging chap. A relief to leave.

the fact that is was close to sites I planned to visit the room was very basic , with tired fittings and cobwebs. A shame that the owners only do the very minimum .Even though it was good value - cleaning costs nothing

The staff were extremely polite and welcoming and the room was very cosy with more than adequate bathroom/toilet facilites. I did not realise that it was run by an Indian proprietor but chose a delicious curry from the indian restaurant menu - which comprised some different and exciting dishes (not the usual Indian restaurant choices) and enjoyed probably one of the nices curries I'd ever had! The only downside was that because I had to leave at 6.00 a.m. - there was no breakfast available.

Friendly staff, Indian restaurant underneath which did lovely food. Room basic, but clean and had hairdryer, tea / coffee facilities, tv, etc. Unusual set up, as this place seems to be an Indian restaurant, pub and B&B.

Has to be one of the friendliest, most welcoming hotels I've ever had the pleasure of staying in in Great Britain - a true credit to the management & staff. The late start (9am) to breakfast on Sunday could be a problem for me although not on this particular occasion.

Very welcoming family run business, set in beautiful grounds. Large play area for children. Grade ii listed building, so plenty of character. Good Indian Restaurant on site. Rooms could do with some refurbishment & maybe air-conditioning!

The proprietor is a card. Very entertaining, very welcoming. Staff will bend over backwards to meet your needs. Some aspects of the room left a lot to be desired, felt a little overpriced on price vs quality.
