1St impressions! Numerous cigarette butts on ground outside entrance- no cig butt box in evidence, entrance hall bleak, cheap poor quality, old furniture- like entering a 1950;s drinking den. Room 32 - cheap poor quality furniture and linen, windows filthy, outlook dreadful onto sloping old felt roof and into space between surrounding buildings which made room airless even with windows open. Bathroom towels thin and old, only toilettries were very small soap. Dinner menu appeared to serve only food straight from freezer. As hotelliers the proprietors seemed to have lost the will to live. We left after one night although we had booked for 4 nights & were charged for 2 nights. An absolute rip-off!-

The location, and the staff were pleasant. First impressions were not good. The hotel, and especially our room, smelt musty. Furniture is very dated, and we spotted quite a few cobwebs. If we can see them, why can't the cleaners? Windows were dirty, and there was dirty carpet in the bathroom. Bed, and pillows, were hard. Drinks in the 60's style bar were very expensive. Breakfast was just about adequate, ingredients used were very poor quality, tea/coffee we had to get ourselves from a machine, and tasted pretty awful. Sorry, but we won't be staying here again.

Chosen because of availability for somewhat late booking for Easter weekend, needed on site parking, dog friendly, restaurant available on site. Fulfilled all requirements. Staff delightful - helpful and friendly and plenty of them. Heating and hot water very efficient. Bathroom modern and well functioning. Large trays of complementary hot cross buns in the bar. Altoghther, very comfortable. Glimpsed another room where a dog had been allowed on to the bed, not sure non-doggy occupants might like that. Food copious but unimaginative. Full breakfast tough.

We found the hotel staff were very friendly and always willing to help. Ideally located for moving around the island and the evening singer on Saturday was great. Would happily stay there again.

This hotel is ideally situated both for the town and beach. The staff were both friendly and exceptionally good at their job. Being in the middle of the winter season its hard to give a full review of the hotel but from the 4 days we stayed there we could not fault the hotel The hotel is an old building but in excellent condition, All that is required is a little tlc in the winter months, ie. Shower bases resealing, outside gutterwork cleaning. The odd paper rip being carefully patched, small items I know but ones that can make the difference in appearance

The Melbourne Ardenlea Is friendly clean and comfortable. Great breakfast which was very well cooked and presented .Lovely staff, which I suspect emanates from the management who seem to be genuinely nice oeople The hotel really needs to be refurbished/ decorated. Its just getting a bit faded. Though I am not for a second saying it is unclean. Quite the contrary

We felt very welcome and staff were very pleasnat and helpful. We have stayed here before and would recomend it to anyone. I think it is better suited to couples and adult groups. The indoor pool is excellent and towels are provided free from reception. We will definitely be going back as soon as possible. Great location. Good breakfast. Overall no complaints at all Hotel was great. Only slight criticsm is nothing to do with hotel and staff at all. There are coach parties and they seem to all be in their late sixties and seventies. Most were great but a few were really rude to the young waitresses and this caused a bit of an atmosphere. But hey ho it didn,t spoil our stay.

Hotel was ideally located for access to Shanklin Town and buses to Ventnor and Ryde. Plus the railway station was only a few hundred yards away. Lots of space to chill out in. Staff were friendly and helpful Lack of staff meant that the bar was often "un-manned" and you had to go searching for staff. Our room could have done with a bit of a clean as there were cobwebs on the windows that weren't opened and the mirror were cleaned by vertically challenged staff as the tops seemed to be always missed.

It was close to facilities but rather 'tired'. Our room (12) was clean and comfortable but the whole hotel needs updating. Breakfast was cold - should do something about their food - obviously cooked in advance

Friendly, helpful staff. Short walk to local facilities. Bright clean rooms with ample storage space. My mother found it difficult to sleep as the duvet was very heavy so she kept getting too warm but there was no alternative cover other than the top bed spread. We all felt we would have preferred to have a summer weight duvet or a sheet. It would have been nice to have a continental choice at breakfast with croissant for example.Otherwise the food was very good.
