The Melbourne-Ardenlea is on a quiet road only 5 minutes’ walk from the beach and Shanklin old thatched village. It has an indoor swimming pool and free Wi-Fi. The zoo at Sandown is a 10-minute drive away while the beautiful Osborne House, which was once Queen Victoria's favorite country home, is just 11 miles from the hotel. The Isle of Wight has 500 miles of footpaths, bridle ways and cycle routes. Some of the bedrooms at The Melbourne-Ardenlea Hotel have sea views; they all come with a private bathroom, bathroom amenities and tea/coffee. Alongside its large indoor swimming pool, the hotel has a sauna and jacuzzi for guests to enjoy. The lounges and bar are comfortably furnished and evening entertainment is provided most nights throughout the summer. The restaurant serves quality food including homemade desserts. The menu changes every day and special dietary requirements can be catered for if requested in advance. Hotel Rooms: 54

1St impressions! Numerous cigarette butts on ground outside entrance- no cig butt box in evidence, entrance hall bleak, cheap poor quality, old furniture- like entering a 1950;s drinking den. Room 32 - cheap poor quality furniture and linen, windows filthy, outlook dreadful onto sloping old felt roof and into space between surrounding buildings which made room airless even with windows open. Bathroom towels thin and old, only toilettries were very small soap. Dinner menu appeared to serve only food straight from freezer. As hotelliers the proprietors seemed to have lost the will to live. We left after one night although we had booked for 4 nights & were charged for 2 nights. An absolute rip-off!-

The Melbourne Ardenlea Is friendly clean and comfortable. Great breakfast which was very well cooked and presented .Lovely staff, which I suspect emanates from the management who seem to be genuinely nice oeople The hotel really needs to be refurbished/ decorated. Its just getting a bit faded. Though I am not for a second saying it is unclean. Quite the contrary

The Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful and the swimmingpool was lovely. The breakfast was very good. Furnishings need updating. The ensuite bathroom was very modern and up to date but the same cannot be said for the bedroom which was badly in need of updating; the bed was quite uncomfortable with and old bedspread.

We felt very welcome and staff were very pleasnat and helpful. We have stayed here before and would recomend it to anyone. I think it is better suited to couples and adult groups. The indoor pool is excellent and towels are provided free from reception. We will definitely be going back as soon as possible. Great location. Good breakfast. Overall no complaints at all Hotel was great. Only slight criticsm is nothing to do with hotel and staff at all. There are coach parties and they seem to all be in their late sixties and seventies. Most were great but a few were really rude to the young waitresses and this caused a bit of an atmosphere. But hey ho it didn,t spoil our stay.

Hotel was ideally located for access to Shanklin Town and buses to Ventnor and Ryde. Plus the railway station was only a few hundred yards away. Lots of space to chill out in. Staff were friendly and helpful Lack of staff meant that the bar was often "un-manned" and you had to go searching for staff. Our room could have done with a bit of a clean as there were cobwebs on the windows that weren't opened and the mirror were cleaned by vertically challenged staff as the tops seemed to be always missed.

nice view from the balcony, chairs to sit outside, quite cheep, clean, parkingspace, beds OK, there is an indoor pool (we did not use it) for free part of the breakfast was awful (coffee, unrecognizeble scrambled egg !), room/bathroom was dated, internet wifi not in the room but in the lounge, unpleasant smell allover the hotel (smoking?), stairs and access to the room were like a labyrinth, very confusing

The hotel is quaint and slightly old-fashioned, but this is not meant to be detrimental. There is 'old-fashioned' courtesy and helpfulness from the staff and the slightly 'old-fashioned' decor has a charm of its own. It could be called 'retro' in some circles! We enjoyed our time at the hotel and the enternainment provided was ideal for those requiring it. It is close to the beaches and the town itself. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt it was very good value.

It was close to facilities but rather 'tired'. Our room (12) was clean and comfortable but the whole hotel needs updating. Breakfast was cold - should do something about their food - obviously cooked in advance

Friendly, helpful staff. Short walk to local facilities. Bright clean rooms with ample storage space. My mother found it difficult to sleep as the duvet was very heavy so she kept getting too warm but there was no alternative cover other than the top bed spread. We all felt we would have preferred to have a summer weight duvet or a sheet. It would have been nice to have a continental choice at breakfast with croissant for example.Otherwise the food was very good.

The staff were very friendly and the food was reasonable. Restaurant very accomodating if arriving late from day out. The room I was given was not very big for a twin room and also looked out on to a brick wall and side of church wall. No view at all, very claustrophobic. Hotel could do with decorating and updating, very tired. Parking was a bit of a problem, bays could do with being chevroned so one is able to pull in and out without too much trouble.

Nice hotel. My room was next to some stairs, it sounded like a herd of elephants was going up and down it from morning til evening. Room was a bit stuffy, no airflow.
