Lovely slightly "faded glory" hotel Nice grounds for a pre dinner walk Staff were very helpful Food was delicious and very reasonable Great value for money Rooms well equipped Proper sized towels Bathrobes Free Wifi - although the signal was quite weak it was sufficient. A really lovely over night stay...I will come back on a leisure stay,

Only 2 tiny points that did not affect my stay: I think hotel more for leisure than business..no papers and breakfast starts at 8.30; but as I had to leave earlier they were most insistent they could leave me a continental breakfast. Also only sample menus in the room but they soon brought me a restaurant menu and bar menu- all available for room service.

The hotel was very welcoming and made afriend's wedding very special. Highly recommended. The building was lovely and refurbished room was perfect for us. The whole experience was delightful.

A few areas need to be brought up to date, but this is also part of the charm.

Very comfortable, beautiful setting, peaceful atmospere, great food.

This isn't a critism, more an observation -Although the staff were all lovely and very efficient, they were very casually dressed with no identifying uniformity, which we found was a contrast to the surroundings, but I do want to emphasise that the staff were excellent.

The Hall is practically on the path and good signage led us there.

young and inexperienced staff (university students on holidays). Breakfast was too late for us.

The room was huge and had glorious views across green hills and countryside. The bar food was excellent. The general presentation of the hotel is beautiful and definitely a 'special' hotel.

The location is beautiful but note the taxi fare into Newtown is £25 each way. I was unhappy that an extra £7.50 was charged for breakfast - I only had a bowl of muesli and wasn't told about the charge beforehand.

Nice old house in the depths of the countryside. Spacious bedrooms. Friendly staff.

Hadn't understood from the internet info that it was a holiday complex with mobile home park within yards of the main building.

    The location The food

We have previously stayed at the Hotel last year and found it to be very good. Unfortunately on this visit the Standards had slipped there appeared to be a shortage of staff with one Lady attempting to do all tasks on her own. Our room had just been refurbished, the soap dish was broken, the shower tray filled up to the top with water and there was one smal piece of soap which stained the basin etc. The first time we stayed which was 12 months previous we found the hotel to be very good, this is the reason we have written this for the owners to improve the standards.

Excellent location and very peaceful. Good food, both evening dinner in the restaurant and breakfast (although they had run out of marmalade!)

We had a problem with the electricity fusing in our room around 7.30am and could not get a response when phoning reception. My husband went down to reception, was shown the fuse box and re-set the trip!

Very friendly staff very welcoming. Dinner was very good and excellent value for money. Bedroom was warm and cosy but dated.

I appreciate the building is very old, there were open fireplaces in both the lounge and bar, unfortunately the logs wasn't replenished and by 10.30pm it was cold enough for us to have to put our coats on, such a shame as the dinner was wonderful but the lack of heating really let them down. We often have nights away and although our room was comfortable we felt it was very overpriced. The breakfast was ok but the toast is served cold and again the dining room could have been warmer.

The friendliness of all the staf who will bend over backwards to help. I love the fact they have alot of different themed nights and the food is excellent. Beautiful setting too

To book a double room is £85 pounds for single occupancy but for an extra person ( 1 extra breakfast and an extra towel and robe ) it costs £135 I really don't know how anyone can justify £50 for a those extras.

The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The location is superb with views in all directions. Breakfast was outstanding and set us up for the day and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner especially on New Year's Eve.

The reception was efficient and cordial. The young lady behind the bar was good fun and full of repartee. The room was comfortable and both the dinner and breakfast were excellent. My two shooting friends were very impressed that I had booked such a beautiful and impressive hotel which had been decorated with imagination for Christmas and the Christmas tree was particularly impressive. We will definitely stay again next time we are in the area.

Location was great and the building looked good from the outside. The staff were friendly, but mostly young and inexperienced. The room (Mainstone) was a good size and the bathroom was modern and clean. Good breakfast selection, and the food at dinner was tasty, albeit on the expensive side. This place could be amazing but needs some TLC. About half the building seems unused and somewhat derelict, so there is room for expansion! Tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room.

The view out of my bedroom was of a static caravan park - not what you'd expect of a country house hotel. Adding a sofa to a room doesn't make it into a suite! Very old TV in the room which only had 5 channels. Reception isn't manned full-time, so expect a wait. The bar is being redecorated which is a good thing as it has zero character at the moment. There is a lovely sitting room off the hall, but that was closed for a private function during my stay. Shame! The bed in my room wasnt all that comfortable.
