Score from 403 reviews Wonderful
The room I stayed in was high end for a B&B - more like a 4/5 star hotel. This is reflected in the price of the room. The host was very friendly and welcoming and breakfast excellent. Parking is difficult in the area and the B&B did offer overnight free street parking which was helpful. Overall the cost was pricey for a B&B but still reflected reasonable value.
The locality. The choice and size of the breakfasts. The quality of the room. The quiet street very close to the town centre and restaurants
While help was given re parking, there is no dedicated parking for the hotel itself
We liked our room, very comfortable and lovely colour scheme. Breakfasts were wonderful. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and they found a parking space for us, just down the road.
No parking at guest house, but that was soon resolved. Nothing else.
-staff -clean -food -position
-the noise from the upper room, you can feel every move
Very good location. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Great location, good host, everything just great!
Nothing, maybe the bed would be a little bit small for big people.
everything the hotel the staff the location and the weather was fantastic
Everything. Only booked the night before but received warm friendly welcome. Our room was of a large size, beautifully clean as was the ensuite bathroom. There was no outside parking so the owners rent some secure parking very close by. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice for those who dont want a full English. Owners could not do enough for you
Easy access to Lake, boat trips, shops and other Lakes The accommodation was comfortable and clean
Lynn and Alan were very hospitable, our room was very clean and comfortable. Offsite, secure parking was just a short walk away. The inn was a great place to use as a base to set out everyday to explore the Lake District. We were able to choose our breakfast selections the prior evening and were always delicious.
I would have preferred a room on one of the upper floors but that was the only negative.
Location. Value for money. Friendly staff. Good food. Secure parking available. We chose this Guest House as it was close to the centre of Ambleside, and the Lakes in particular. We were not disappointed
Nothing at all
Quite location, but convenient location for village amenities including Pubs, shops and walks in stunning surroundings. Friendly and warm welcome continued throughout our stay.
Lack of power from the on-suite shower.
My daughters loved staying at Melrose. One if them 14amd the other one 10yrs old. We enjoyed the use of swimming pool, had a lovely choice of different cooked breakfast every morning and to to pit up the owners really looked after us. Definitely will recommend to others.
The clean rooms
The bathroom bit too small
breakfast good ,host very pleasant
we were on the top floor and the shower was useless due to the lack of pressure. Not ideal after a day out walking
The owners are very welcoming and make the stay more pleasant. The rooms are very clean and cosy with extra little touches making your stay a lovely one.The position of the guest house is good with a ten minute walk to the lake but close to the shops. You can also access a nearby hotels spa and pool.
Nothing except having to leave
Room was very clean and comfortable. Our hosts are lovely and the whole experience was pleasant. Free spa access pass to the nearby Salutation Hotel was fantastic - swimming pool, outdoor wooden hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym and various treatments - absolutely perfect for relaxing after a day of hillwalking.
Our room was quite small and at the top of 2 flights of stairs.
Breakfast was good Room was well presented
No lounge to meet with other members of family with whom we were travelling. Felt that we could not meet comfortably in each other's room when we came in about 9 o'clock.
nothing (apart from the weather)
Great value, modern decor, clean, great breakfast. Owners were very helpful and polite. Our room was the smallest, but still quite roomy.
Limited parking and the spaces at the front of the guest house only enable 1 hour parking until 6pm. Driving around a one way system to find parking spaces during these times was a bit of a pain.
the breakfast was fantastic and the bed was very comfy
the family room is in the basement and there was little natural light and no views
Friendly staff, good food
Shower bit weak, we were on top floor.
location, breakfast, helpful owners suggeted walk routes, secure parking arrangements
excellent breakfast choice asked for porridge .... this was not a problem
the heat room at top of guest house vey warm next day but requested top sheet only this was replaced no problem
