Good location and nice room & breakfast
Food smell in the room (main building) in the mornings, cleanliness in the room could be better (dust, spiderweb)
We experienced restful sleeps, delicious breakfasts, kind owners, and the best stay of our trip. Right on the train line out of Victoria station, it's easy to get to.
Quiet, undisturbed accommodation, handy for Beckenham and fast train access to London.
Ridiculously small sink with shelf above that made even cleaning teeth an impossible task. Long waits for (eventually) excellent breakfast - possibly worth the wait.
Francis and her adult children were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the breakfast was WONDERFUL! House was a short walk to East Penge rail station.
It was hot during our stay and Room 11 did not have any air movement. Had a ceiling fan, but in order to get outside cooler air into the room you had to open the main door to the room, so that all other guests could look into your room. Room 11 was very small and lacked privacy.
Room and bed very comfortable. Clean. Great Wi-Fi. Breakfast was fabulous! Easy access to 2 train lines into London.
Lovely stay recommended
Lovely designed room 4. Absolutely clean. Very friendly atmosphere. Seems to be refurbished the whole house. Calm at night for a good sleeping. Station Pence East just a 10min walk away. Train needs only 15min to Victoria Station on the Centre. Free car parking near the house without searching for a parking lot. Safe area of London at daytime and night.
Hard mattress in the extra bed for our child.
very delicious tea brand, full english breakfast - you sit in the open kitchen where your breakfast is prepared. For London - extremely fair price. And you have your own bathroom.
breakfast: no hot milk or chocolate, we didn´t like the taste of their coffee, very small variety of fruits, yoghurt and cheese. Your clothes may smell after breakfast. If the weather is fine - don´t take room number 2!!! There is a large old heating boiler inside the wardrobe and it´s terribly hot. Therefore we couldn´t sleep!!!
Pleasant service and nice location. Parking was easy. Lots of choice for breakfast.
Hot breakfast item cooking was very slow and seemed a little unorganised
The breakfast was delicious and we found the staff to be very informative with directions around the London area. The staff was also very friendly and socialable.
The locking up of the facilities for the night was a bit early and the locks on the doors were a bit challenging at times. Also, we were not able to get a WiFi signal in our room or the sitting area outside of our room. We had to go downstairs to the dining room to get a WiFi signal. This meant that we could only use the internet during dining room hours before it was locked up for the evening.
A very nice B&B with friendly staff.
Breakfast was a complete shambles.... as if they had never tried to make breakfast before and were constantly amazed that people were arriving and requesting things.... juice and coffee refills took 15 minutes (apparently involving going out to the shops!) and cooked breakfasts took 30 minutes plus to serve on both days I stayed.
We enjoyed our stay here. Clean and comfortable, with a good breakfast and friendly hosts. Easy and direct train trip from Victoria station to Melrose House.
The neighborhood of Penge East was very quiet and not very vibey, but we found a good pub in the main street.
Breakfast was very good. Very much felt like a family venture.
It was a very homely family oriented place to stay. Frances and her family are lovely people who will assist you with anything you need. The rooms are adequate to what you need them for clean and comfortable. The cooked breakfast on a morning was lovely just right to start your day, also had lots of other choices such as cereals ,croissants , etc. would return back next time in London.
The atmosphere there was very friendly and Vic and Fran are also very helpful.
The house is not very near central London. It take about 15 minute from the nearest Train station to Victoria Station. After you get out of the train you walk about 10 mins to the house. But considering it is London, I am satisfied with it.
Very welcome warm and homey hotel, the rooms, extremely clean specious and comfortable, the bed is very comfy. There is a best breakfast you ever have , with very vary food choice. This is only several minuteיs walk till the train station and 20 minutes drive till the center by train - I think this is perfect stay for the London explore, instead of having little central hotel's "box" style rooms for the triple price.
Room number 6 doesn't have the window or balcony to the street (but to the conservatory), even the ventilator is provided - we missed the fresh air. It should be mentioned at the room description.
Friendly staff, fabulous service, great location for central London & marathon start, short walk to eith of 2 train stations.
Special thanks for the sunday early morning extra catering/breakfast.
The room was clean with comfortable bed and friendly staff.
The water heater for coffee was dirty even after washing it several times, so I did not bother to use it. Also, it would have been better if you can have breakfast earlier so that you can leave early to make it in time to Central London for tours. The wifi barely reach the third floor where I am staying and there is no light outside the door.
Very good location for London with free parking, good quality accommodation for money paid. Would visit again
Each breakfast was individually cooked to order which in itself is a sign of quality but on the negative side when there are in excess of 15 to 20 people this can be a lengthy wait.
Really a home like stay. Breakfast was rhich and delicious and prepared within few minutes after an individual choice! Cosy house and room. Recommend to eweryone who prefers a silent house in peaceful location instead big noisy and "busy" hotel. And do not forget to ask owner or staff way to Moon and Stars PUB nearby. Direct trains from Victoria to Penge East Station each 15 min (trip durates 15 min.). Short walk from station- 5 min. So do not be afraid of "big distance" from city center.
No regrets about stay in this lovely guesthouse.
I would reallty recommend Melrose. We got the family roo, hic had four singe bed, in a large bedroom and en-suite bathroom. We had our own private entrance at the back of the house. The area is very nice, and really, really quiet. Melrose is about a 5-10 minutes walk from the Penge EAst train Station, and it took about 25 mintes from Victoria Station. Trains leave every 15 minutes. Very convenient. My kids rellay enjoyed getting out of busy and noisy London and the family was able to relax. Breakfast was delicious, even if there is a bit of a wait since it is made to order.
There is only one kebab Place int e neighborhood, so east Before heading back to Melrose. Granted, the kebabs wraps were yummy! There was no shower curtain.
We were family:parents & 2 children. Melrose House is a family hotel run by a pleasent family. Breakfest is served generously. The room was cleaned every day.We love it very much & intend coming back soon.
Pretty cheap hotel, considering London. Wi-Fi is very good.
Room was not ready when we arrived (it was about 13.00). Mirror in the bathroom was dirty. Bathroom is too small: when I was taking a shower, curtain was almost laying on me, and I'm pretty small person. You can choose not to use curtain at all, but in this case the whole bathroom will be wet. Our room was not in the main building, it was located in small, one-floor building across the garden (if there was notification about it in the hotel description I would never book this hotel!). There were two fountains in the garden which worked all the time. Hearing running water when you are trying to sleep is not the best experience. We had to wait more than 30 minutes for our breakfast to be cooked, even when we were the only couple in the dining room. Does it really take so long to fry beckon and eggs? I doubt it. Also it is very uncomfortable to sit near one big table with everyone else. Small, separate tables would be much better.
