I was not happy with the heating when we arrived as all the rads we returned off then it took 2.5 hrs to get it on which spoiled or visit Other than that it was fine
It's a castle. How often do you sleep in a castle? Beautiful location Nice dinner at reasonable prices
Poor wi-fi reception in the room, fine anywhere else. Staff was nice enough, but leaves room for improvement
It was designed for a disabled person.the wash basin was inadequate also no toiletry shelf. The shower head was insecure also dripped all through my stay ,the bath had rust marks in the bath, there was no toilet roll holder. So in all this spoilt what infact is a very nice hotel.
The Building, the grounds
Mold in the bathroom (room 2) made the room smell moody. Various items needed maintenance, electric plugs didn't work, curtain hook loose in wall, bathroom door not painted after sizing, black mould between bathroom tiles. Finally the staff never smile!!!!
All of it....would definitely be coming back...... Thank you
location and setting,nice staff.
buffet breakfast was hot but not on cold plates please.
The Caslte and the grounds were beautiful. The food was excellent! The staff was nice. Would stay again
although it was summer and hot to the locals, it was cold to us and we had no heat in the room. disappointing
The big problem with this hotel was the staff. There is a complete lack of welcome and warmth. Also the 'brasserie' is charging far too much for food which is mediocre at best, and when it isn't even served with a smile you begrudge paying their prices.
The entire stay was exceptional. The hotel is amazing, the staff are friendly and informative, especially Sarah, Thanks again Sarah. We had a truly fantastic three night stay. No complaints at all.
The television was a bit fuzzy and we didn't get to see the ghost.
the setting for the castle is really nice and the castle it self was very nice...
if i have to dislike something think the only problem was that our phone wasnt working to we had to go to reception to order any room service... then wanted to have a bath and there was no plug for bath... also if i have to say the heater in bathroom was very rusty....
facilities, friendly staff, excellent sleeping accom.
Such a pleasant seating & so convenient to get anywhere around the city.
Staff, quiet grounds for location, ambience, family friendly, intimate, very professional ... All in all we loved our stay at Melville Castle. Thank you!
Minor issue, with water flow in bathroom - once staff notified, it was to be fixed. All good!
The staff were friendly, efficient and really nice
The setting ,welcome and staff 10/10 . Will return there one day and would recommend .
The breakfast and service overall were excellent . Shame the evening menu needs a rethink, although problem I had was quickly rectified by very good restaurant staff .:-))
The location and the building were lovely.
The hotel is not geared for people on business and I felt that some staff were unhelpful. Breakfast was not served at 7.30am as stated as I was still sitting at 7.45am and had to leave as I had an early meeting.
We were left standing in the bar waiting for over 10/15mins whilst restaurant manager (with no presence) went to find us a table for dinner, no drink was offered, the barman looked at us, ignored us continued to do something else, not even an acknowledgement of I will be with you in a minute, until the one and only bar/waiter, mature with fantastic personality appologised that we had not been served, he was the only staff member we found helpful, he should be placed in charge. We were also charged for afternoon tea which we did not have! this was deducted, please check your bill! We had just arrived from our family trip at Gleneagles and was looking forward to sandwiches and a pot of tea, nothing of this nature is on offer, just a heavy 2 or 3 course set menu which was not what we wanted, food nothing special, the breakfast was awful, not a brillant selection of fruit and a watery buffet! oh and leaving the hotel on first day at 9.30, arriving back at 4pm we had to go and ask reception why our room had not been made up, there is also no make up our room tags to place outside the door.
Beautiful setting, excellent cuisine and staff have right level of friendliness. Any minor problems soon sorted. Room size excellent and nice refurbished bathroom. It would be improved further by the addition of a 'grab handle' on the wall when showering. I preferred dining in the ambience of the restaurant/ballroom, which is where breakfast is served. A beautiful, light and airy venue. I would have liked to have dined there for my 'special occasion' meal rather than the Brassiere. However the quality of the food was excellent and portion sizes just right.
Higher grade napkins, particularly for evening dining, would be more appropriate for the setting.
Quiet, tranquil location. Large clean rooms.
Bistro restaurant lacked atmosphere and food of poor quality. Similarly, quality of breakfast was poor. Pity, this is a lovely hotel in other respects
1) sleeping in real castle 2) the main building is awesome. you feel like a lord for one night 3) the property with walkways and river is a pleasure for eyes 4) it was interesting to read that Marie Stuart used this castle to love rendezvous with her Italian lover (forgot his name)
1) hard to find. used hotel address but navigator brought me to some golf club. thank you that they speak english in this country. the real location was almost a mile from navigator destination 2) bad restaurant. waited very long for food to come. pork belly was overcooked 3) they have rooms in main house and in wings (on both sides on main house). First I got a room in left wing. I was very small with low ceiling. I asked for another room and got room in the main building. This one was gorgeous. 4) wifi does not work in some rooms (the walls are from thick stone).
When we arrived we were told that there was no room for us although we had booked 4 months previously and they had taken out a third payment as deposit from that time.
Good breakfast in nice surroundings. Bedroom (room14) had two bathrooms. Ample parking in front of hotel.
Expected a stately dining room, with high standard cuisine, disappointed with a rather basic brasserie and the casual attitude by staff. Previous occupants had obviously celebrated as champagne cork was still on our bedroom floor.
Situation good for visiting the area. Managed to get £40 off the bill!
Very poor value for money. Grotty dining room in the basement, cold. Dirty room, stained carpet. Cold breakfast. Unkept gardens. Poor staffing, all foreign.
Staff not present, room was not cleaned fully on arrival and no hot water next morning as problems with boiler
The ambience of the hotel is wonderful. Sitting in extensive grounds, it's like travelling back in time. The staff were, without exception, excellent and we're clearly interested in what they were doing and keen to ensure customer satisfaction. The room was quiet, very spacious and comfortable. Buffet breakfast was OK and better than most.
