Opened on Queen Victoria's coronation day in June 1838, the Royal Bath Hotel was the first hotel in Bournemouth. It offers 3 hotel restaurants, a health spa and lovely sea views.
Score from 1763 reviews Good
Village Urban Resort Bournemouth is a stylish hotel with excellent facilities. It offers a modern health club with a gym and a pool, along with a great pub and grill restaurant and a Starbucks.
Score from 324 reviews Good
The room was lovely, we had a suite with a balcony (or two balconies as it turned out, one at the front one at the side) In honesty I'd say over priced compared to what I'd pay at a Hilton for a suite, but a really nice suite full of character. A beautiful sea view from our bed over-rode any little niggles!
Oh dear! On business I need good wifi and good room service food. Ooops!!! Failed on both! My medium steak was crucified, with accompanying onion rings and sweet potato wedges stone cold. Wifi in our room was virtually non existent and became to frustrating to attempt to use. Service at breakfast was patchy, got snapped at for asking for tea & coffee ten minutes after we'd been sat down. No welcome, no direction as to where to find the buffet etc.. Shame. The moral for this hotel, for the best experience stay in your room and bring your own food & wine! Important to say, if like us you don't mind hibernating in a lovely room with gorgeous views then all the other stuff doesn't really matter!!
Excellent position, good food and friendly staff
Too Hot! We were on the second floor and the radiators in the corridor were red hot all the time even on hot days. Decour looking tired.
good bar area and service Breakfast superb
If u have a family room , is one double bed enough? No of course. So u make sure that you have a camp bed instead ? Ok. But no. Ntg. Speak to reception tick. surprised that there was no campbeds when I return from evening meal outside? Nope. Get it done eventually but no way on earth you should be able to describe family room judging by what I supposedly booked.
Breakfast was excellent. Most evening meals were good. Though not having ingredients for 2 meals was poor. Leisure centre great. Friendly staff. Location was excellent for beach or town centre.
No wi-Fi the 3 nights we were there. On day 3 we were offered a dongal to share in the reception area with other guests. Mixer tap in the bathroom came off on 1st use, maintainence had to be called in. Mattresses had springs sticking in the back, though the day we were leaving a note was put under the door to say mattresses were being replaced that day, bad timing for us. When paying the bill we had been charged for wine and beer £5 total which we hadn't had. It was taken off the bill when pointed out. For a 4* hotel it was a disappointment.
Every member of staff, without exception, was friendly, approachable and happy. We had a wonderful stay and when we return to Bournemouth we will certainly book here again.
Pleasentness of the staff
One of the lifts control panel was loose we did not trust it and used the stairs. Was told by a guest that it had been reported. I did not complain myself. everone else seemed to be using it.
Stayed here on business, a very patronising receptionist checked me in and asked me to pay for the accommodation up front. I wasn't asked if I had a car, so I informed the receptionist that I'd parked at the sister hotel as I found the signage confusing - to be told that I should of registered my reg with the sister hotel or I'd receive a fine of £100 - I replied, I hadn't read that on the signage and his reply was it's on the sign and there are plenty of them !! Ok - think I got a telling off there Stayed in 127, the heating was on and it was tropical !! The room smelt of dettol ! But at least at a glance it looked clean. The bathroom has to be the worst part of the room, very tired, full of mould around the bath and bath panel. Opened the window to cool the room down and met by huge cob webs behind the drapes ! Nice Didn't bother with the TV - as was partially on the floor. The entire furniture in the room was so worn and stained. I slipped in the bath, as the non slip on the bath had worn away and no bath mat to put in!! The main shower head didn't work - so I had to hold the separate shower head over myself to wash So breakfast, knowing I had a 5 drive back home - I thought a good breakfast would help. So I thought I'd have some toast and then help myself to the very sorry looking buffet on offer. So helped myself to the white bread pop one in the toaster and looked at the next slice - that had mould all over it ! So did the next 4 slices, bearing in mind, half a loaf had been eaten by unsuspecting guests !! No staff around and then a guy in a suit appeared and asked him to change the bread, which he did. But another guest, complimented me, for asking for it to be changed - as it had been the same, the day before !! Mouldy bread !! When I paid any extra £12.
Helpful staff, facilities are good, position of Hotel (for us) was perfect
On the Sunday morning we requested an early morning call and a continental breakfast in our room. The call never came! and the breakfast wasn't what we had ordered, but there was very little we could do about it at the time.
Sea road/view hotel
Next door hotel also has similar Carlton name
The location was amazing, sea front property full of character and oozing with historical ambience. Obviously maintained to the highest standards but maintaining the wonderful charm that a period property deserves. The staff were very professional and friendly, frankly they couldn't do enough to accommodate. We will definitely revisit and without hesitation will be recommending this wonderful place to all and sundry.
Only problem was they were out of Steak and Cream on the Saturday night during our three day visit. However, if you snooze, you lose!!
Decor & staff
room service dirty spa shower window security dirty toilet
The Staff realy are great here. Very helpfull. I got a good room even though I booked on line late. Good location.
The garage in the car park could do with a serious refurbishment.
Food was very good. Beautiful views.
Wifi signal a little poor.
Excellent location and proximity to Bournemouth town centre and with a commanding position overlooking the sea. There is a cliff lift directly opposite the hotel enabling you to walk into the centre of the town, return along the promenade then take the lift to the top and the hotel.Friendly and obliging staff with good food. Will definitely return.
Nothing to dislike
Restaurant . The lay out was very good
Everything looked as if it needed a good clean. The bar area, was thick with dust. The room was also not clean.. Fittings in the bathroom were going rusty.Rubber seal on the shower screen was hanging off.Furniture around the place was in poor condition.
We like the overall ambience of the Carlton .The food is always to our taste and the staff are always so friendly and obliging. We have not used the pools etc but look very pleasant.
The location mainly. The luxury of clean towels and face cloths daily.Room with a sea view even though you had to stand up to see over the concrete balcony. The grandeur of the public rooms with plenty of room.
The poor choice of menu on Saturday and Sunday. We don.t expect a repetition from a 4 star hotel and to make things worse, tepid food served on a cold plate. Even worse, when asked for it to be re-heated, the plate was red-hot but the temperature of the food was still the same - disgraceful and a potential for food poisoning! We were glad we had not booked for longer than 3 days.
Restaurant and bar staff were friendly. The standard of food was excellent. View of the beach from room was great
Had to ask 4 times for beds to be twin, reception staff not helpful or very friendly. Shabby in places and in need of some renovation, particularly bathroom. No wifi available other than in lobby
Situation, amenities and pools excellent
Dinner menu was a bit restrictive particularly for vegetarians Bathroom spacious but nowhere to put clothes ,small towel rail over radiator not large enough to take 4wet towels Need more towel rails and stool
The entrance foyer was very impressive the dining was beautiful and the swimming pool (outdoors) temperature was excellent. The dinining room was beautiful and the manageress and staff very accommodating. The food was rather too fancy and didn't give a plainer menu for those with eating problems. Although presentation was great. Car parking facilities were excellent. Being so close to the beach and views of the sea were much appreciated.
Too much was stuffed into a small bedroom (no room left on the dressing table to place anything at all) and only one shelf (about 4inches deep) in what was a very lovely bathroom. I had to use a window will (behind the toilet ) to keep things like face cream and hair spray etc Although it was lovely to be so close to the sea I couldn't see it unless I went to the small window which was in the corner of my room. I was on the third floor - single room - with sea view. .
Lovely hotel , great facilities , good size family room
Bar Personnel could be a lot more friendly & accommodating , smiles are always good ! Such a shame as restaurant and pianist very lovely & all hotel etc great , will definitely come again
helpful staff in the dining room and the bar . pleasant views from the terrace and warm outdoor pool.
No dress code for the dining room in the evening . A guest straight off the golf course in shorts and tee shirt was allowed to dine in the evening when we were there . We stayed two nights and were considering eating in the hotel the second night but to pay in excess of £100 for 3 meals plus drinks and be sitting alongside guests who have made little effort did not feel acceptable . Lower the prices or raise the standards .
Booked a double room with child's free cot. On check in they didn't know we had requested a cot. I also confirmed we wanted a double as we had been allocated a twin room. On being told it was a double we arrived via carrying all of our luggage up stairs and through fire doors with a child and buggy/ bags to discover the room was at the back of a car park and was dark. The curtains wouldn't pull properly along the runners. The 'double bed' was two singles pushed together. Wasn't quite how it looked on the internet that's for sure. The bathroom was tired and limescalled and I was out off the bath as there was a slimy collection of hair in the plug hole. The travel cot that later arrived wouldn't erect properly and the wooden slats had moved from their compartments meaning not in a million years was it suitable for a baby to sleep on for both safety and comfort. Sadly the outside of the hotel makes it look nice but the rooms and what I saw were below average, tired and not cleaned to a suitable standard.
Pool area outside good but inside full of kids playing ball games.
Black mastik and cracked tiles in bathrooms. Restaurant staff need training on how to deal with simple requests from guests
