There was nothing at all to like about this hotel. It was truly attrocious. The hotel was disgusting. Dirty, unfriendly, tiny room, I could go on all day. Please, please, please do not waste your money by staying at this hotel. I have taken photo's of the hotel and am intending to forward them to Trading Standards as I believe the description of the hotel is intentionally misleading, and I do not believe anyone should have to experience the horror of staying here.

The location of the accomodation is excellent I did not have a kettle in my room (they did state I would and they gave me coffee/tea etc!). I asked for one to be put in my room whilst I was out but it was not and when I returned reception was closed so I was unable to use this. There was also not enough loo roll for the number of people using the one shared toilet so take your own.

Central location, warm room If you arrive after dark this hotel is hard to find as its on narrow dark side street, thanks to previous review I was able to lock bed room door,to lock bedroom door you must push in a button on the inside door handle and then close the door, the key will open door but it could not be used to lock my room door. This hotel is ok for a nights sleep but is not suitable if you intend spending alot of time in your room. Dont expect hotel standards.

The staff were friendly and helpful and the location was as close as you can get to the city centre. After reading reviews I'd been afraid of what I would find. As it was, the facilities (the bathroom and toilet) were both clean and functioning. The bed linens were clean and the door lock was secure. Everything you'd expect for the price of the room/ The hotel was a little shabby and we had issues with the front door (but the staff helped us out so we had no problems getting in when we returned to our room at night). Also there were no towels in our room.

the shower was fairly decent although a little stubborn to operate the room was not clean, the toilet seat wasn't clean from whoever last used it, shower has not been cleaned, floor was not clean, under the beds had all manner of rubbish that has been there for more than just a few days. Also live wires exposed behind a piece of cardboard where a light switch should be

The location of the hotel was very good. Just a 5min walk and you were in the main shopping mall. Not very much to like tbh, we had two rooms. one was room 6 and the other room 12. Our friend did not arrive till late and so we showed him his room (12) later on, when we opened the door someone else was staying within that room. It turned out that the key we were given that we thought was for room 12 was actually the master key!!!! In the end our friend did get a different room tho. There was wallpaper hanging off the wall in our room (6) and there were no towels. As for the breakfast i didnt dare go down to see what they had to offer but my partener went down and there was basically toast and cereal.

Excellent staff - knowledgable, friendly and very helpful. Excellent breakfast, best museli on our trip so far. Location was excellent - close to coach terminal and rail station (we needed to make a transfer from one to the other from late in the evening to early in the morning). Overall very good value for money. The rooms were small but adequate. Bit of noise on weekends as above nearby bars on street below. But in an excellent North Quarter area for going out at night.

The Merchants was the worst hotel I have checked into. The staff were rude, the whole hotel was filthy and there was no senior in charge to complain to. When we first checked into the hotel the room was filthy, it had sweet wrappers and used tissue on the floor, and hair all over the bed. When we went to complain the staff were unhelpful and rude. They did not give us a refund, and we checked out of the hotel and into a different place.

The location, it was close to the train station and close to the city centre The room was cold, and the ad misleading, I believed I was booking a double room that'd have a bathroom ensuit like standard rooms however the bathroom was shared with the entire floor and there were no towels (all of which were said to be included in the room price)

Location is all. No pillowcases on pillows and pillows stained. Staff member tried to withhold our key deposit as he didn't believe that we had paid it. Front door had been kicked in and not repaired properly. No soap or shower gel. Room was cold and no extra bedding.

It didn't feel very safe. Always made sure the door was locked (and I do travel quite a lot and to many places) On the floor I was staying the shower was out of service so I had to use the one on another level. I had a basin in my room but the hot water tap wasn't working. The toilet on my floor had no latch!! so couldn't be locked. No towels provided, which wasn't specified in the information. I did have a kettle and tea, but no sugar or milk... so not much point! If you are looking for cheap and don't mind rough and ready, this is fine, but don't book it to take your girlfriend on a romantic getaway!!

The hotel is really centrally located and fairly cheap. I know that this hotel is cheap but for £50 for the room I expected a little more than what we got. Fair enough there was a shared bathroom, I knew that but the bathroom on our floor was out of order and apparently there was another one on the second floor but I didn't fancy wandering around in a towel looking for it. Oh yes and if you are going there remember to bring a towel. There was also no lock on the shared toilet which meant I had to sit and hold the door shut whilst in there. However, the biggest problem was the ridiculous temperature of the place. The heating appeared to be on full blast the whole time and the sash window was broken so there was no way of opening the window.
