Convenience to city centre via bus links Attic room ensuite toilet - not able to close door. Double bed - hard, so not very comfortable. Partly chose this place because of wifi access which is not yet not possible from the room we stayed in.

Make sure u have cash with u when check in. Pay when check in and 5 percent charge if paid by credit or debit card. Very basic bed and breakfast. It does the job and good value for money( we paid fifty pounds per night). It's kind of clean although carpet and bathroom look tired. Shower was really weak. Breakfast is continental with not many choices ( a few cereals, fruit, toast). Bus stop is right outside the b&b and takes about ten minutes to city centre. A good choice if u are on a budget. But will not pay more than sixty pounds per night. It is a very basic b&B. We stayed in room number one and the floor is not flat and feel a bit tilted. Not sure it is common or not to expect bugs in the bathroom and spider in the bedroom. Shower is really weak.

The couple who owned the hotel were really super people, helpfull and polite, the hotel rooms were basic, affordable and very clean, with a bus stop at the door. The hotel was popular for young adults and they were quite noisey arriving in very late and running in the hallways laughing and talking, turning on the T.V. after 2-00am and this meant we got very little sleep and once awakened we didn't get sleeping again. Rooms No 3 and 4 urgently need the floor boards repaired as they were unbelievily squeeky and it wasn't possible to step around the squeeks as it was all over the intire floor, this did spoil our stay while we were there leaving us tired the next day, a pity as the owners were so friendly, there probably isn't always noisey guests but the floor boards would ungently need attention.

The reception manager was very nice and helpful. He was the only real standout at this hotel. No mattress protectors on beds. Although no mold was visible the bathroom had a terrible moldly smell. Although the room was a family room - the beds were situated poorly against walls and were difficult to get in and out of. The lighting was also very poor in the room. No hot breakfast - quite a dissappointment.

Very friendly personnel, we felt very welcome! The ambience of the hotel is very good and the location is also very nice, in a pleasant neighbourhood. The breakfast is prepared with care. Every day the room was cleaned and we got new towels. Nice digital TV with lots of channels and opportunity for subtitles. On our last day, we had to leave before breakfast started. However, the hotel manager provided us with a tray with breakfast on the evening before, very kind!!! Small room, low water pressure but a nice warm shower!

The hotel is well placed for town and is just around the corner from the 35 (airport) bus. It was quite clean (apart from the shower curtain) and it was very cheap. There were a couple of small issues - the bed was very uncomfortable, there was mould on the shower curtain, there was only one towel and one bar of soap in the bathroom, and the water pressure in the shower was very poor. The temperature in the shower kept changing by itself, which wasn't really conducive to a relaxing experience. The room itself was also quite cold at times, the heating should really have been on a higher setting when it was so cold outside. As well as this, breakfast is served until 9.30 at weekends and 8.30 during the week. I found this to be quite unusual and not in line with normal hotel standards. Check- out time is 10.30 - again, I found this to be much earlier than I would normally expect. To be honest I've stayed in hostels and b&bs that were of a much higher standard than this hotel. It's worth shopping around given the amount of accommodation available in Edinburgh.

Really tiny rooms and minuscule bathrooms (really can't move without bumping into something), poor internet connection, cold shower, some weird brownish bugs and we also noticed the keys to the rooms are all identical, so watch out for your stuff in case someone else notices this.

The Merith House Hotel is in my opinion highly recommandable. The room was small but we had everything we needed and it was cleaned every day. The busstation is in front of the hotel and busses go regularly including night busses. It takes about 10 minutes to the city centre. The hotel stuff is very friendly and helps you E.G. booking day trips. The breakfast is of coffee/tee, toast and jam, and cornflakes. It's not much, but still better than nothing and anyway- considering the costs overall, I would always choose the Merith House Hotel !

Room was warm & quiet & convenient on bus route for city. Decor in need of an update! En-suite was small, taps dripping. "Continental" breakfast is a bit of an overstatement - no meat, cheese, pastries etc - very basic cold English breakfast (cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt, tea/ coffee, scone & fruit juice(poor)

The staff were friendly and the location is good (ten min bus ride to city centre, bus stop right out the front). The small rooms are really small. We only had two backpacks and with them in the room there wasn't much space to move. We booked for five nights and thought we would get a slightly bigger room because of our longer stay - unfortunately not the case. The bathroom is tiny - literally a square box - located right next to the bedhead which is a little unpleasant. Breakfast included but only available during a 1 1/2hr timeframe early in the morning. The hotel puts a 5% surcharge on credit and debit card transactions - this is high and completely ridiculous for a debit card payment.

The place is actively managed by a friendly couple who can be very helpful with questions. The place is just opposite a bus stop so it's convenient going about the city proper, considering that taxi is expensive. The breakfast that comes with the accommodation is good compared to other similar establishments - I like the scones. We were assigned a room in the 3rd floor - Internet signal is not good up there so we had to go down to be online and since the office is open from 7am-9pm only, we camp out outside room doors or on the stairs if we want to go online outside of those office hours. The heater in our room kept breaking down in the middle of the night. Since the office is closed and we couldn't call anybody, we had to contend with the cold cold room - it was winter when we stayed there.

We were on a budget, which was the reason we chose this hotel. The room was small, but everything went perfect. Since the staff wasn't always there, you take the keys everywhere, there's no curfew. The heating was really good, even with the cold Edinburgh weather. The bus stop is literally in front of the hotel, and buses are frequent, just 10 minutes from the city center. Overall, a very pleasant stay. If you're paying with a credit or debit card, they will charge you 5% more.

Clean and warm and cheap. A good value for money. I would recommend it to a friend. The room was a bit too small, but as we stayed in the room just to have a shower and to sleep, that was not a problem. A bit far from the city centre, but there is a bus station just in front of the hotel.

The hotel was situated on a main road with a 10 mins bus journey into the town centre, it was £1.30 for any distance travelled, or £3.20 for the day to travel as much as you wanted. We arrived early after a 2 hour trip from ayr and was able to check in no problem. The owners were very nice and helpful. They gave us loads of information on getting around and there were lots of leaflets in the reception for things to do. The only thing that was of trouble was that when we arrived we understood you would only be charged an admin fee for credit card transactions, but it was debit & credit cards they charged for, it was only 5% though!

They are currently undergoing a referb downstairs which looks very nice. When we arrived they weren't full so they put us in the largest room (10) at the top which was great and at no extra charge. The bed had lovely clean sheets and the bathroom was clean but could do with some referb work of its own. Location was great with the choice of two buses going into town every 10 mins. Overall I wasn't too disappointed. We loved Edinburgh and would recommend the Mussel Inn in Rose Street. The people are very friendly.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Requested extra pillow - no problem. Needed help with directions and staff went on computer and printed map out for us. Breakfast was classed as continental but really didn't think it was. Also not keen on having to pay extra for a cooked breakfast - even scrambled eggs on toast.

Good location. Bus stop right in front of the hotel with busses going every 15 minutes to the city centre. Room was clean and comfy. The only thing that we could mention here is that the bathroom of our room was very small.
