The Mermaid Hotel is one of the nicest hotels that I have stayed in during my travels through Europe. You would need to enjoy the beams and log fire type hotel as its a million miles away from the typical modern hotel with magnolia painted walls ect. The service and staff were exceptional and the whole weekend was wonderful. We liked all of it ! |

Great atmosphere - helpful staff - excellent food. Lounge areas and bar were all comfortable with a relaxed ambience. Excellent location - for (antique) shopping Vehicle access a bit awkward - but a small price to pay! |

Excellent ambience and history just seeped out of every creaking floorboard and low beam. Food was highly enjoyable. Just a pity the front lounge had the feel of a bus station waiting room compared to the leather settes and low tables in the side lounge. For a "Superior" double room it was completely overwhelmed by the 4 poster bed. It lacked a telephone and fridge, the tv had just 5 channels (all poor reception & no radio). Only space in the wardrobe for one guest's clothes. Difficult to control the shower temperature. |

This is a delightful old 15th century stagecoach inn that is very well maintained and offers excellent dining and service. The room price was a little steep for a small town hotel. |

The hotel is steeped in history, having been a smuggler's retreat in the years when Rye was on the coast. It's in a cobbled backstreet which time has forgotten. Bearing in mind the age of this ancient building, I still think the bathroom could have been a bit better. Tiles need regrouting. |

This hotel is unique as dating from the 14th Century and therefore allowance must be made for uneven floors and not quite modern design of facilities although all modern services are provided. Facilities for the less agile could be provided in the bathroom such as hand rails for the shower and the bath. |

Wonderful location - artfully and very successfully modernised and maintained - reception, porter and bar staff charming and professional There was unacceptable shouting and swearing in the kitchen during breakfast which was quite inappropriate and unprofessional. Guests were somewhat shocked and those with children are likely to have been offended. It was clear that the service staff were having difficulty coping. |

The staff, although very bust tended to our every need. The food was very good. The room was very, very hot. I understand that this is such an old inn that there is probably nothing that could be done. Next time I go to stay I will ask for a lower floor as all the heat rises and we were very close to the kitchen which cannot have helped. We would have died of heat stroke except for the fan. |

Staying at Rye Lodge is always an enjoyable experience at any time of the year. The surroundings are elegant, the atmosphere relaxed - and the service second to none! |
