Metro Inns Newcastle

We chose to book this hotel because it is conveniently located on the A1 a few miles outside of Newcastle city centre. We were going to a concert at the Sage and thought it would be easy to drive to the hotel, get a taxi into town and back, and drive home the next day, without having to drive in the city. Because of the low price of rooms, we weren't expecting much. I'm not precious about where I stay and only have two basic requirements from a hotel - somewhere clean and comfortable to wash, and somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep. I'm afraid this hotel failed on both counts. The room was very basic - as I was expecting - however smelt badly of cigarette smoke. The duvet also smelt of body odour!

No private bathrooms - we had a sink in the room and shared toilets and showers down the hall. Unfortunately, when visiting the loo, we found them to be those weird self cleaning portacabins with noo loo seats. Dingy and horrible with constantly wet floors. Worse of all, we hardly slept! There were loads of drunk people, screaming and shouting in the hall at 5am and when I went to reception to ask to be moved I was told no as this is just the norm for a Saturday night! the 120 mile drive home the next day was not fun! I have stayed all manner of places without complaint, have never written a bad review, and normally take ones I do read with a pinch of salt, however I'm afraid this hotel failed in the most basic of requirements.

I thought it was very good value for money, and there was all the facilities available to let you get on with what you needed to do.

For the price good value and staff very helpful with info on the town and would book you a taxi as quick as they could very good would stay again.

It was fine for a overnight stay and was quiet with a excellent receptionist.

The room could have been cleaner and it had shared showers and toilets.

Was close to station, which was ideal for this trip and easy to find, being close to main a1 road

Did not realise at time of booking that there would be no facilities in room and had to use communual shower and toilet, tv was very high so awkward to watch and no where if more than one person to sit also room was very small, we had booked for 2 nights when we returned to room on 2nd day, refreshments we had left in the room had dissapeared, although we did enquire at reception what had happend to these the only reply we got was, "we thought you wern't comming back!"

The price

Not very clean, looking very dated and had a big hole in the door which other guests could look through. I had to block it with newspaper...

The location to the airport is great. The price what i paid is for budget but we had a tv in our room which was really good. I paid £24.50 for 2 people, so my expectation could not be high. Overall it was ok for a 1 night sleep.

The receptionists were poor. They did not say Hi or hello, or not even asked how are you, or how was your stay with us. Nothing. The noise from other guest at 3am was extremely loud. Nothing was done to help those customers who wanted to sleep that time. The toilet facilities are terrible. I thought I was on a bus toilet not in a hotel one. Terrible.

Very very noisy

The staff could not have been more helpfull and for the price that I paid I couldn't have asked for anymore.

The hotel was a bit out of the way of the city centre but I knew to expect that and the staff done there best to make it easy to get into the centre so it wasn't a problem.

Nothing! Too many stag and hen parties making for a very disturbed night especially between 03.00 and 04.30 and then again at 07.00 until 07.45. Some of the "guests" used the shower as a toilet then walked around spreading the muck further. Corridores littered with underwear, men running up and down in their underwear. Glad to leave.
