A really well run establishment with well trained and efficient staff. The fish at dinner was overcooked.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable three nights and were delighted with our accommodation in the Lady Mary Suite. All staff were very attentive and made us feel welcome. The hotel is delightful, beautifully decorated and furnished with appropriate antiques which complimented the building. We took advantage of the bus at the top of the road which took away the headache of parking and finding our way around the city.

I loved the welcome I received, and the first class service. Whilst I've taken clients there whilst working in York a few years ago, I've never had the opportunity to stay. Can't wait to come back. The double bed really wasn't a double bed - it was too large singles pushed together. As we like sleeping tucked up together, I kept disappearing down the joint all night - spoilt a little what was supposed to be a romantic occasion!

Beautiful grounds. Luxury accommodation with all the 'little extras'. Professional and friendly staff who were not over-bearing. Spacious rooms in main hotel and courtyard bedroom. Large modern bathroom and also facilities to make tea/coffee. Spa facilities were a bonus although not used on this visit . A duvet instead of the blanket and 'eiderdown' would be appreciated.

Room (suite) was beautiful and very comfortable. Food and service at restaurant was excellent. The room was a bit overheated. But we turned the heat down and opened the windows and that did the trick.

The service was excellent and it was the little touches that made it special, such as all the curtains drawn and the bedding pulled donw when we arrived back from an evening out in York

Great staff, friendly, and helpful. Service was good. Room was lovely While the room/s were lovely, the bathroom was very small - for anyone with any physical problem, getting into the bath to turn the shower on could have been difficult, and for a modern but architecturally old building, still having blankets to cope with was one of the surprises for the standard of reputable quality you provide - a change of policy on bed covers would not go amiss. Especially as in the last 9 months I have stayed in many hotels of different qualities throughout Europe, Asia and Australia, and there, I cannot remember seeing a blanket! Otherwise a lovely stay.

Setting and decor of hotel was excellent. Staff were very helpful. We stayed in the converted stables which was super. Breakfast times are ridiculous: 07:30 to 09:30 is neither early enough if you need to get away for the day/ check out early nor late enough if you want to sleep in. For a 4 star hotel 07:00 to 10:30 should be the minimum. They also apparently have a good evening menu, bowever. last orders at 20:30 is far too early so we always ate in town.

Beautiful hotel in wonderful surroundings within easy reach of York. Attractive, comfortable rooms We were offered coffee on arrival whilst waiting for the rest of our party on a very cold day It never turned up even though we asked several times at reception and were told it was on its way. After 45 minutes, we gave up. I was almost overcharged £100 on leaving but insisted that the person on reception recalculated my bill. He got it right second time but didn't apologise.

Location Service in restaurant was awful as well as at breakfast. Very very slow. No bar to have a drink (although we were aware of this). Left sitting outside and had to find someone for service. When we had a drink in drawing room you had to physically get up to find someone to serve you and again when we wanted another drink. Went there 2 years ago and it was better. Very expensive. Will not return.

Location We stayed at the hotel some years ago and decided to return we were very disapointed. The welcome was none existant and the staff not interested With one exception the lady responsible for the breakfast room. We did book an extra night but decided not to stay because of the poor reception and service. Dinning room very expensive after the reception we decided not to use the facility. Asked man on reception for a recommendation he didn't have a clue on the name of a restaurant in York. We were never intoduced or saw the manager. Sad to see such a well run hotel deteriate so badly and so cold. No flowers or blazing fires

Despite my wife being ill and confined to bed for most of our stay, we were extremely well looked after. The room was warm and comfortable with all the facilities we needed, the food was excellent and the menu imaginative, and the service was prompt, efficient, courteous and friendly. I also very much liked the swimming pool, which was I think probably the best hotel pool I have used in this country.

We were delighted to receive a room upgrade from the outside courtyard (although there was no reason to suspect that this would not have been lovely) to the main house. Everything ran smoothly and efficiently and the staff were highly professional and made sure that every need was attended to. The spa area is an excellent facility. All in all - pretty much everything was of great value and most comfortable. Thank you. A minor point - the bed had blankets/covers and sheets which were not entirely comfortable. Perhaps we have become too accustomed to duvets! The bed was smaller than we would have chosen, but this is not a real issue except that with the bed linen 'crisis', it did not lead to an excellent night's sleep.

Fantastic service, better than 5star hotels i've stayed in! OK its not the cheapest but everything is of a high standard weather its the gin in your G&T or the coffee brought to your room each morning, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the food awsome as well!

I enjoyed the quiet and the luxurious accommodations we had in the courtyard suite with two baths and a king size bed. The daily room service was excellent, the spa and pool were quite enjoyable. I wish that the tv in the Gym room worked and that there was a greater selection of weight exercise machines.
