“Traditional old fashioned manor converted into Hotel. Rooms in keeping with its age, with beautiful grounds. The staff were friendly and efficient, giving the impression we were the most important people there. The room decor was excellent with antique style. All traditional quality except the TV and bathroom which, by necessity, were modern. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The health spa was also a key feature. We WILL visit again.”

I loved the welcome I received, and the first class service. Whilst I've taken clients there whilst working in York a few years ago, I've never had the opportunity to stay. Can't wait to come back. The double bed really wasn't a double bed - it was too large singles pushed together. As we like sleeping tucked up together, I kept disappearing down the joint all night - spoilt a little what was supposed to be a romantic occasion!

This is a historic National Trust property and as such fits perfectly with our interests. We were there primarily for a Historic House Association garden tour but enjoyed an overnight stay. Our room was in the converted stables courtyard, was a luxury double room and fully lived up to its description. While there was no racing at the time, it could not be more convenient for York racecourse. Watch our for the extras. They tried to charge us for a hot breakfast which was actually included. At the pre booked lunch, we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee but there was no indication that this would cost £4 extra! There was no tea/coffee tray in the room but when requested proved to be excellent with no extra charge. It is adjacent to the A64 with constant traffic noise, although thankfully not indoors.

The historic building is beautiful with lovely grounds. The staff were excellent and the food is wonderful. The public areas are sumptuous and I beat my wife at chess for the first time in years! The spa and pool is very good . I would recommend this hotel to any discerning person who appreciates the beauty of an English country house. A and D

All the staff were very polite, friendly and accommodating and you didn't get the usual 'tut tut' when you were offered the evening meal but said you didn't want one. Overall a very pleasant experience and well worth recommending not forgetting the food preparation and service which was also excellent.. The only thing I didn't like was the rough surface of the car park which made walking in light shoes slightly uncomfortable.

Welcoming, very well presented - all the more for being upgraded to the best room in the house; this is a very good hotel. There is really nothing to dislike but I would have preferred the whole of the main house to have been a little warmer.

There was much to like about Middlethorpe Hall. the building itself appealed to our sense of history, and the grounds were superb. Ideal to stroll around to enhance a delightful and relaxing stay. But best of all were the staff, whose attentiveness, attention to detail and knowledge meant that we really got the best from our visit. The food was exquisite with superb wines specially selected to compliment the experience. We chose Middlethorpe because we thought it would best suit our expectations. It did and at every level. The personal touch was evident throughout, which is what made the experience so special. So there you have it. Exemplary staff, cordon bleu dining, fine wines and all set in a beautiful house and grounds. Who could ask for more. Thank you to all for a memorable visit. we look forward to returning.

Location We stayed at the hotel some years ago and decided to return we were very disapointed. The welcome was none existant and the staff not interested With one exception the lady responsible for the breakfast room. We did book an extra night but decided not to stay because of the poor reception and service. Dinning room very expensive after the reception we decided not to use the facility. Asked man on reception for a recommendation he didn't have a clue on the name of a restaurant in York. We were never intoduced or saw the manager. Sad to see such a well run hotel deteriate so badly and so cold. No flowers or blazing fires

Despite my wife being ill and confined to bed for most of our stay, we were extremely well looked after. The room was warm and comfortable with all the facilities we needed, the food was excellent and the menu imaginative, and the service was prompt, efficient, courteous and friendly. I also very much liked the swimming pool, which was I think probably the best hotel pool I have used in this country.

Fantastic service, better than 5star hotels i've stayed in! OK its not the cheapest but everything is of a high standard weather its the gin in your G&T or the coffee brought to your room each morning, nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the food awsome as well!
