Rooms very comfortable Staff very friendly in restaurant Quick check out
Hand basin in bathroom - had to fix plug mechanism under the sink to release water as it was disconnected Fire Alarms sounded and evacuated from hotel in middle of dinner. The method of roll call used was very lengthy and did not include residents who had checked in in the last hour (me + others!) This resulted in everyone standing out in the cold longer than needed. Eventually we were offered the opportunity to go to a lounge in the Hallmark Inn across the road to keep warm until given the all clear......which was identified as a flood and not a fire.
The location was really good, shops nearby and Antibo's restaurant over the road which was brilliant!
Can't say we didn't like anything, overall it was a really pleasant stay. Would recommend to friends.
Hotel clean and staff helpful. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Room was ready before 2pm.
This is not a complaint but there was not much choice on the menu for an evening meal so decided to eat in town instead. At the weekend when it is busy the dining room for breakfast was a little cramped although on the Monday morning it was fine.
Staff very friendly and hotel very clean and warm. Very good value for money.
Think they are going to have to deal with the floorboards soon and ours and the floor above very creaky indeed!
Comfy hotel, right by the train station (and within easy walking distance of some excellent real ale pubs!). Nice big airy rooms with free Wi-Fi. Quiet nights sleep despite our room overlooking the taxi rank. Reception staff were lovely.
Bed was a bit too soft for our liking. Food in the brasserie average the night we ate there (remember it being better last time we stayed).
Perfect location for us
It would have been nice if at breakfast they asked if you would like more coffee and we didn't have to ask the staff who were standing around
Staff excellent especially Sue in housekeeping who located my electric toothbrush and returned it to me immediately by post, she was very pleasant and helpful
Reception staff excellent but undermanned.
Building interior is now shabby, my single room was very basic. English breakfast stone cold, returned it and complained/insisted on being reimbursed. People were waiting 30 mins to check out due to lack of reception staff. Hotel frontage & Car park was a dangerous ice rink & not swept/cleaned for many months. I won't be back.
The bed was comfy, and the staff were very pleasant.
The room we were in was filthy, there was a mug stain on the window sill, pubic hairs in the bath, dust on every surface, the breakfast was vile and incredibly greasy, we paid £16 each and only had a mouthful. There were incredibly creeky floorboards, every step we took it echoed around the room, and we could hear every single footstep upstairs, which meant an early 7am start when we wanted to stay in bed. We were due to stay for 2 nights, but after the first night we left. It's a shame, we were really looking forward to it.
This the second time we have stayed at The Hallmark and it doesn't disappoint. Our room was at the front of the hotel and was quite noisy with the traffic, we asked to be moved to a room overlooking the gardens and this was sorted quickly by the smiling receptionist without any fuss. The bed was quite comfortable but the pillows were extremely hard. All considered though for the price this is a great little hotel for an overnight stay, friendly and comfortable and we would recommend it.
The bar closed at 10.55 pm without any warning, we weren't asked if we wanted another drink before it shut. The lights were simply turned out and the waiter disappeared!
huge bed nice bathroom
The hotel is full of character. The staff member that served the afternoon tea was fantastic.
The room was FULL of other people's head and body hair. Every colour and texture imaginable which made me think it hasn't been cleaned properly for a while.. Unless someone had a party there?! Bottle of half drunk beer in the room. Who did it belong to?! Wasn't asked how my stay was when I checked out.
Staff were universally friendly and helpful, food was good, and room was big, clean and with a great bathroom. Also nice being able to control the heating level.
I liked the new shampoo and body lotion, my room was quiet and comfortable, the breakfast was good
The large lamp shades in the breakfast room need cleaning, the payment device didn't accept my card (standard European Visa)
Even though it was close to the train station you could not hear the trains. The rooms and bathroom had plenty of space. Decor was palatial.
The room was a bid chilly even with the temperature turned up. The curtains were heavy and covered the radiator when you closed them and I think this could be the reason. Maybe shorten them a little.
Right next to rail station Quiet room, well heated Courteous staff Quick response to requests (e.g. for ironing board/iron) Nice décor and furniture in room Spacious room
I didn't appreciate that the drawers weren't genuine, very misleading. The hair dryer was disappointing, it looked like it belonged in heartbeat.
The welcome, bar and check-out staff were excellent and very friendly & helpful.
WIFI in the room poor signal Rm 280
So handy for the station arriving and departing
Room could have warmer and I could not seem to alter radiator
Creeky floorboards above us woke us up too early and kept us awake quite late.
Bathroom was very cold. Windows didn't close.
Biggish room complete with a separate bath
Bit further out of town and not a great area at night
I was staying at Christmas, it was beautifully decorated, and staff on check in were very helpful. Was welcomed in a very friendly manner. Breakfast was also lovely for a great price.
The bedding in my room, was just a sheet, not a duvet like other hotels I had stayed at, for £70 a night, you'd think it would have a bit more comfort to it. Even though there was heating,I was still rather cold. The wifi was poor at connecting and the same with the to. Most solo travellers rely on this I'm guessing so was a bit poor.
We have stayed in the Hallmark before and always found it excellent. also my son held his wedding reception their three years ago. Which was also excellent.
Bed comfy and room warm
Waiting alongtime for coffee in the morning at breakfast half way through my breakfast when it arrived and then tasted awful. Nicer coffee and faster service is what is required
