generally very pleasant. Walking available straight from the door If using zip up beds to create a large double a thin over mattress she be used as the seam down the middle is very uncomfortable to lie on.Room 24 a little tired and could do with redecoration.

It just may be the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff in particular were laid-back, helpful and very friendly without ever being obsequious. The food was wonderful, and not ridiculously expensive for the quality. My room and en-suite bath were not luxurious by Ritz standards, but were (almost) entirely adequate, and looked out on a vast lawn, with a stream and trees beyond it. If I had wanted to poke around the Cotswolds (which I didn't, this time) it would have been an ideal centre. And if this stupid program thinks I am going to spell "centre" wrong just to please its American spell-check, it can think again. Not a complaint, just a comment. The duvet was much too thick for the weather, and (as seems to be true of every hotel), the bedroom lighting was much too poor to read by.

Breakfast. Cleanliness. Garden. Lady on reception (v helpful). Cleaning staff sat in the lounge gossiping and discussing their rotas as if the guests around them didn't exist. The conspicuous lack of management on site. No taxis! This is the Cotswolds not the Isle of Skye.

The restaurant experience was excellent. One good feature was the opportunity for one person to chose from the bar menu while the other chose from the wonderful al la carte resaurant menu. This is a generous feature of the dining experience. The ambience of the hotel was lovely with its sweeping lawns, stream and pleasant walks around the nearby streets. I was not happy about the bedding. Evidently the whole hotel has single beds that zip togther. Either ours was not zipped together or, the difference between the heights of the beds was too pronounced for it to be comfortable. The problem could probably be dealt with by laying a thick cover (not just the matress protector that was there) over the join.

The location. We were given a classic room by mistake and it was basic. Toiletries minimal. Kettle socket position meant kettle was in front of tv screen. Linen and towels not crisp and clean-looking. Nowhere in the bathroom to hang bath towels. Everything needed updating. We stayed two nights and the dinner menu was the same both evenings. Menu was not varied enough.

Staff extreamely friendly and helpful. A hotel with character set in its own pleasant grounds. Uneven floor in reception an example of its character. Room ready for a bit of a spruce-up

the value for money was incredible. We had a delicious 3 course meal and full english breakfast included in our room rate. Staff were very lovely and the hotel is very quaint. A lovely spot to get away from the hussle and bussle of city life. Also nice and close to most popular villages in cotswolds. Two thumbs up from us!

We like the hotel for it's ambience, location, good food, pleasant helpful staff. Lounge, dining room and bar are really welcoming and comfortable. This has been our third visit, and will go again. However, although the bedroom we had, had recently been redecorated, we do feel that it was "tired".

It was in a lovely setting in the Cotswolds. Log fire in the bar and a very good breakfast! We clearly booked a classic double room to be given a twin room. However, the room was changed!

The Red Lion Inn
Real Ales, fine wines, superb food and a warm welcome await you. The interior retains an old world charm with log fires, stone walls and oak beams.
Excellent, 8.9
Score from 80 reviews
“I loved everything about The Red Lion. The staff were amazingly friendly towards me and my dog who was made to feel as welcome as I was! Food was excellent and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Very cute cosy rooms and very nice bathrooms. I was booked in to stay for one evening but ended up staying two! Hoping to go back again in January. Felt like one of the locals, who were so so friendly.” Jo, Maidstone |
