We just needed somewhere to shower and change for our Christmas doo. It was perfect for that. Central to town and train station.
Fire alarm going off at 4am.
Going up so many steep flights of stairs with a suitcase . Had to stop many times on way up to top floor .
Location on St Mary's street was perfect. Reception staff were friendly.
Had to check in and out St hotel opposite. £20 deposit for key without prior warning. The room was extremely cold. I had to sleep fully clothed and it was so cold the following morning I didn't want to use the shower. The room was also accessed by a number of steep staircases without a lift.
Nice housekeeping workers
very noizy. If you have loud neighbours you won't be able to sleep all the night. You can hear every single word. On our floor lived sick partying young people who were very loud in the middle of the night, screaming, jumping on the funtiture and there was no one to hangle that problem. Because they smoked in the room the fire alarm worked at 4 am and all the visitors had to leave the building. No one even apologized for that.
Location was great for a quick one night stay in Cardiff.
The room was a bit neglected looking in regards to paint job but the room and bathroom were spacious, very comfortable and spotlessly clean! It was lovely to come back everyday and have the room pristine. Also on the last day I was given gifts of bottled water, hot chocolate and biscuits. This was a lovely surprise and I left with a warmth for the place after this! I recommended the hotel as a cheap and cheerful hotel with an excellent city centre location. Would definitely stay here again.
The room could do with a fresh coat of paint! Also there was no lift and I had to drag my heavy suitcase up several flights of stairs. To be fair though, the staff were more than accommodating with helping me carry the bag. The rates were great during the week but rose rapidly on the Friday night! From 40e up to 129e! I think there was rugby on the next day. Beware of this price hike around events in the nearby stadium.
Great location, very central. Perfectly fine overall!
Bit dark and very basic. Fine for one night though!
Receptionist was lovely, very pleasnat and helpful. Rooms were clean and tidy, very central. Good views from front rooms. Would go there again.
Stairs were steep, and carpets a bit tatty (though our room #4 was ok), curtains were a bit light were only problems. Front rooms are a bit noisy
access for disabled people. light took ages to come on. kept flickering. lights outside when locking room. took ages to come on. could not find a light switch which made it not easy to lock door
I personally didn't stay here but members of my group did and told me it was exactly what we needed, perfectly located in the centre of Cardiff and close to the Millennium Stadium, restaurants and bars. And a very good price too! The staff bent over backwards to help me as trip organiser and really made a difference to our stay. Definitely recommended!
Excellent location, everything you need for one or two nights (warm shower, table and chair, bed clothing, towels, hair drier, etc.)
Old and floppy mattress, ok for one or two nights (I stayed two nights)but couldn't sleep more than three nights on one of those... And, better to use ear plugs ( I always take them in cheap city hotels, anyway)
Steep stairs but we were warned so not a complaint
Location and size of room, friendly helpful staff
For a basic hotel for people heading to a gig it was perfect, cheap & couldn't be any more central
The hotel doesn't have a reception and you have to check in across the road .... Not a problem we just didn't know that until we called.
Location, parking facilities.
Location!! Wifi was excellent, tea/coffee facilities, helpful staff. Also full breakfast (at a price) was fantastic. I liked here, definitely would like to stay again!
There was a problem with the shower, hope they'll fix it soon. Also no elevator, you have to climb a lot of stairs but I knew before I went so it wasn't a problem for me at all.
The staff was very helpful and everything worked even though the surroundings were pretty worned out and could do with some redecoration
The nearest room is up two flights of a steep and narrow staircase. At the beginning we were given a room on the fourth floor which we would never have been able to reach carrying our big case if my 20 y.o. son had not been there. The following day we were offered to move to the lowest level and the staff carried our bag below
The location was good and its value for money
There is lots of noise in St Mary Street from the various people in the pubs and clubs and street cleaning teams.
The location was great
For £70 a night the standard did not reflect it's value. I'm not sure I will stay there again.
Exactly 100 steep stairs to the room. If you're unfit or asthmatic then you may want to take your time and your medication.
I have stayed in better rooms in Africa. The smell in the bathroom from the stale water from the open drain in the middle of the floor was appalling.A clear window and a non closing curtain made showering impossible. And the carpet was so un clean that I kept my shoes on the whole time! Oh and don't expect an early breakfast as nothing happens in the kitchen till most working people are expected to be out of the door and on their way to work.
Location and price
Threadbare carpet on stairs were a bit dodgy Old fashioned decor
Every thing. About 9 flights of stairs to room which was shabby. Window dislodged from frame which could have killed a passer by had it fallen from that height. We informed reception of this. Never again !!!
Location and facilities.
Noise coming from generators outside window and outside door.
