Untidy and cluttered and dark
Location, quirkiness of hotel, friendly welcome. Quiet at night and comfortable beds Good breakfast choice.
Leaking bathroom ceiling after room above took shower, back feeding of plumbing other people's dirty water in bath. Charged 5* prices for 3* hotel no itemised bills & trying to charge for meals we had not had.
Interesting hotel Good food tasty gin and lovely view from front rooms Quite expensive but nice treat Staff also very obliging Recommended
The location was fantastic. The quirkiness was lovely, loads of antiques and knick knacks, the view from our room was excellent over the harbour, it is in a unique and beautiful area.
The bathroom was missing grout, the shower didn't give hot water and the complimentary toiletries were meagre. Very cheap loo roll. It is supposed to be a 4* hotel but is way below other 4* hotels I have stayed in, we had to hunt staff when we needed something including booking in. The food was adequate but not noteworthy and the service tardy. I would say a 2* hotel not more.
location and views over the Bristol Channel. Breakfast was good. The pub next door where food was cheaper and v.good. Staff were pleasant, worked hard; receptionists doubled as waitress.
there is a point when shabby is just shabby/run down and all the antique bits and bobs don't hide the rotten woodwork - but this is not reflected in the prices. The marketing details should have stated "no lift" and lots of stairs - difficult for those with mobility issues. We are familiar with the Miller brand and understand what they wish to achieve.
Beautiful location. good food. On the whole very friendly staff.
Being hurried at breakfast time. The shower was very temperamental, gave up and had a bath instead! Being woken up during the night by other holiday makers who had arrived very late at a nearby holiday apartment.
Double-booked our room. Called us about 40 minutes before we were due to arrive to advise us. Staff did eventually help find alternative, but only after I insisted they do so. Having driven for several hours we were not even offered any refreshment. Not impressed by this experience
Location and view..peace and quiet
Over priced for what the hotel room offered.could be cleaner.
Lots of books everywhere was a lovely surprise - you can take what interests you! Great breakfast. Laid back. Despite quayside location night was quiet. Fab photography.
No dinners Monday or Tuesday was a negative surprise. We were looking forward to the dinners. Ship next door great though.
Having to provide my own pen to sign in as there wasn't one on reception! Staff not overly friendly. Hotel very dated and did not live up to expectations...it is just full of things-most definitely not all antiques. Old ripped sofas (not antique), Jordan's bio (!) to name a couple and obvious problems with water running down walls and splats of food on walls in dining area. Bathroom left a lot to be desired as did the bedroom really
The view from the room was great. The pub next door was good value..we would stay there if we went to Porlock Weir again
Location, view from room, character of hotel, friendly staff, convenient parking.
Cramped family room with two camp beds, no Wi-Fi, limited continental breakfast.
Reception very friendly. Staff attentive and very welcoming. Good location
Dirty rooms, dusty and needs a re-paint...decor looks very tired. Restaurant food was decent, and nice atmosphere however very expensive (think london prices) In all, very expensive for room and food for what you get which is an average 3 star accommodation.
Tiny rooms full of irrelevant stuff that took up too much room
I can't rate this hotel, or the staff, highly enough. An absolute "must visit".
A magical location with excellent helpful staff.
Crammed full of antiques so it looked cluttered and untidy. In need of repair to return it to its former glory.
Excellent situated with accessibility to Exmoor. It must be remembered that 32 miles to Barnstable is going to take longer than on a motorway - go with the flow. This is a quirky hotel and as a fan of Millers suited us to the ground, a very pleasant area love Porlock and will be returning in the Autumn
The evening menu limited doesn't change and no "Special of the Day" Lunch time menu no bad. They miss out on the sourcing of local products and not Roasts of even Venison or Beef. needs to be reviewed even though a Millers Bistro in Portlock you cannot drink drive ie a glass or two of Vino
Eclectic atmosphere. Free use of the theatre room with Fawlty Towers available! (Plus a wide assortment of other DVD's)
Dust the bookshelves!
the whole appearance and ambiance of the hotel, it stood out above other hotels.
the dinner, the fish was not cooked, the basil dressing had not been cleaned it was awful, we were not charged. we did not eat in the restaurant on the 2nd evening, we ate out. the chef did not show his face, or offer an alternative. our evening was spoilt.
Large comfortable room with view. Staff helpful. Good location.
The one evening meal we had was very poor indeed. They need a chef ! We felt the place needed a managerial presence - it was left to itinerant staff to run, albeit doing their best.
You have to see it to believe it. Every nook and cranny is stuffed with interest, more books than a book shop. Cumfy sofas and chairs. Excellent food and of course the lovely staff. Then the position on Porlock Weir. A fabulous place with a big difference. 3rd stay, what more can I say.
Location, friendly staff, quirky antique furnishings and amazing view from our bedroom (room 5).Good breakfast.
Very expensive evening meal which also had a 10% service charge added. Shower struggled to supply hot water.
Great Location. Stunning Views Breakfast freshly cooked..
Room & Bathroom in need of re-decorating. Two floor tiles in bathroom loose & broken. Staircase needs more lighting. Gutters full of weeds.
Great location The hotel was quite quirky / unusual Very easy going
Breakfast wasn't very good - no sign of local produce, which was a shame. Very early check-out Wifi - very poor
Location is perfect for a total wind down.
Wifi not very good
