Hotel facilities were absolutely brilliant, the decor was kept to a Scottish feel, and everything was clean, tidy and welcoming. The room may be small, but there's enough space for bags and luggage, do not see why one would need much space in their sleeping area (unless they're practising dancing?). The bathroom was brilliant, there were plenty of towels, and all was pretty much perfect. Our room was facing the road and we couldn't hear the traffic at all. Staff was also extremely helpful and we had a lovely stay. The restaurant serves the tastiest steaks on the planet, and the food is definitely worth the money! We absolutely loved the hotel, and the following text in red is targeted at the restaurant staff, rather than anything!
If you decide to eat in the restaurant, make sure you are not seated next to a big table of rich people. Reason being, the staff will just blank you and work their hardest for their tips from the others. The first day the service was brilliant, but the second day there was an incident of the waitress not giving a single..... about us. I will base the following aspects in comparison to the service received the previous day: she brought the drinks in unopened bottles, chucked the glasses and rushed off. The butter she brought was rock hard and we ended up heating it above the candle. She then did not bring appropriate cutlery for the steak. After eating, we waited for our dishes to be taken away for 10 minutes, then been generously given another 10 minutes to make our mind up on desserts, and after we said no to the desserts, ill go to detail: the posh table got their meals served, collected, seconds served and collected, (we then started giving THE look to the waitress, but she didn't even drop an eye on us poor mortals), then she arranged TWO MORE STAFF to help her make coffee for the other table, got their desserts, retrieved the plates, and, to our highest disappointment, got their bill and got them pay before us. In the end, we counted that 5 different staff members had served the other table, we started calculating our waiting time from the moment they had their seconds brought, which totalled to 40 minutes of clock watching, summing to a total of OVER AN HOUR of waiting since we had eaten. We were trying to call her, but didn't want to make a big fuss, and ended up being blatantly ignored. Only when the rich batch left, and we called for her AGAIN, she then offered desserts to us (dont know if you recall it, love, but it was a no, thank you?!), and had our bill brought. The nearby table with two ladies who had ordered a bottle of wine shortly after we arrived, and which was empty long long ago, only got some attention after the whole fiasco as well.
We liked many things, we were particularly taken by the location within poole itself. We felt safe walking around. The matredee was very professional, polite and helpful. Having The Cliff Bar and resturant nearby was a real asset, after our long journey time & full day in poole.
There was only side lights and no main light in the bedroom. The side lights weren't dimable which prevented one person reading when the room was dark. The room was also cold on arrival and there was only a plug in heater so no overnight warmth could be safely maintained.
good food, good location, excellent staff.
bed too soft.
Great people, the staff are lovely. Good food Good location
Room 6 - the bed is awful, like sleeping on a bag of tennis balls!
Location Friendly Staff Loch Fyne Restaurant downstairs Wonderful breakfast
Really nice, very pleasant staff. Great restaurant.
Dripping shower - thus wet floor Toilet flush did not work properly-very wonky! Overhead light kept going on and off. Very easy to fix these sort of things. Just do it!
The Loch Fyne restaurant was excellent food and service. Staff were friendly and accommodating
Bed very comfortable, staff very helpful. Close to footpath to beach.
Would have liked larger cups for hot drinks in room.
Loved having restaurant down stairs. All staff had excellent approach location in terms of walking locally or travelling in car is first class
My room 2 perhaps a little small but very clean. Somewhere in the background was music in the evening never did discern where it was coming from?? Minor irritation only
The room had an ironing board which was useful as we had flown in for a wedding just down the road.
There was a very strong smell in the entire building of seaweed and fish. The room was a bit dusty and 3 of the 5 bulbs were not working.
Food is top notch and more than makes up for basic accommodation
The hotel is well run and staff were all freoindly. The seafood gastropub is fantastic and breakfast was delicious
The room I had was very 'cosy', but at the price I paid I was quite happy.
Poor main course of seafood tagliatelle . service slow.
Hotel too noisy doors banging and people in pub underneth plus road noise. place was clean but small double room for money. Breakfast was nice.
Location and value
Room could have been cleaner and fan in on suit very noisy
Staff were professional, friendly and always seemed to find time to talk to customers. Food was excellent and the portions generous. Room 4 was spacious for 2. The mattress was very comfortable.
No complimentary water on the first night of a 2 night stay and only 3 biscuits to share. (none on 2nd night but 2 bottles of water appeared) Room 4 seemed to be above the kitchen which was noisy till past midnight with 'pot washing' etc. However, we did not hear anyone talking, they were just getting on with their tasks.
Clean rooms, very good service, price was right and loved the breakfast. Quality food and great coffee
Getting up for breakfast to the smell of seafood. The price of the bar was much to expensive.
Price was perfect. Location was spot on! Breakfast was excellent!
Rooms were small The bathroom and room need a thorough clean!!! Mattress was smaller than the bed.
For the price we were not expecting the hotel to be a wonderful as it was. Very smart and kept to a high standard. To have a nice restaurant included in the property was a good bonus.
The service in the restaurant was a little poor (due to staffing issues) at first but the food is first class, as was the breakfast selection and food.
Peaceful, great on site food, warm and friendly staff, excellent value for money, a definite place to return to.
Good value for money. Staff were friendly and polite.
Room was quite small and layout could have been better. Bin in the bathroom was full and sink could have been cleaner.
Small Rooms Location, need car unless you are eating at restaurant
Good location for Poole beach, 10 minutes walk away. The restaurant had good choice of food and was well cooked, and presented, and, at a reasonable price. Staff in the restaurant where pleasant and helpful.
The cleanliness of our room. Dirty toilet bowl from previous guests, dust on skirting boards. shower small and mould around bottom of shower doors. A young staff who didn't seem to have leadership from more experienced staff on the hotel side, i.e. staff had to find 'someone' to book us in. Being woken up twice by 'someone' activating the fire alarm, not acceptable when we needed to leave early for the ferry to France.Other guests were affected too, some German guests were not pleased either.
Location: 10 mins walk to sandbanks beach via a footpath. Breakfast: hot food made to order.
Room small but this was foreseen cause of the low price.
