If you decide to eat in the restaurant, make sure you are not seated next to a big table of rich people. Reason being, the staff will just blank you and work their hardest for their tips from the others. The first day the service was brilliant, but the second day there was an incident of the waitress not giving a single..... about us. I will base the following aspects in comparison to the service received the previous day: she brought the drinks in unopened bottles, chucked the glasses and rushed off. The butter she brought was rock hard and we ended up heating it above the candle. She then did not bring appropriate cutlery for the steak. After eating, we waited for our dishes to be taken away for 10 minutes, then been generously given another 10 minutes to make our mind up on desserts, and after we said no to the desserts, ill go to detail: the posh table got their meals served, collected, seconds served and collected, (we then started giving THE look to the waitress, but she didn't even drop an eye on us poor mortals), then she arranged TWO MORE STAFF to help her make coffee for the other table, got their desserts, retrieved the plates, and, to our highest disappointment, got their bill and got them pay before us. In the end, we counted that 5 different staff members had served the other table, we started calculating our waiting time from the moment they had their seconds brought, which totalled to 40 minutes of clock watching, summing to a total of OVER AN HOUR of waiting since we had eaten. We were trying to call her, but didn't want to make a big fuss, and ended up being blatantly ignored. Only when the rich batch left, and we called for her AGAIN, she then offered desserts to us (dont know if you recall it, love, but it was a no, thank you?!), and had our bill brought. The nearby table with two ladies who had ordered a bottle of wine shortly after we arrived, and which was empty long long ago, only got some attention after the whole fiasco as well.
Hotel facilities were absolutely brilliant, the decor was kept to a Scottish feel, and everything was clean, tidy and welcoming. The room may be small, but there's enough space for bags and luggage, do not see why one would need much space in their sleeping area (unless they're practising dancing?). The bathroom was brilliant, there were plenty of towels, and all was pretty much perfect. Our room was facing the road and we couldn't hear the traffic at all. Staff was also extremely helpful and we had a lovely stay. The restaurant serves the tastiest steaks on the planet, and the food is definitely worth the money! We absolutely loved the hotel, and the following text in red is targeted at the restaurant staff, rather than anything!
