With a great location in Cardiff’s centre, this beautiful Victorian building is a modern Thistle hotel with a restaurant and champagne bar. Rooms each feature stylish décor and a flat-screen TV.
Score from 528 reviews Fabulous
Gym and pool facilities were really good. Downstairs the hotel had real country estate charm
upstairs the hallways were decorated like some roman theme park. The wifi was none existent. there were an awful lot of cobwebs. There's a cat roaming around the upper floors!
Very comfortable and welcoming. A wedding party was in full swing but did not disturb us at all. We turned up late after an evening rugby match but the did not try to rush us into dinner.
Poor Wi-Fi connection
Young man on reception; he was exceptional. Courteous, helpful, attentive and pleasant.
Beautiful place for a wedding- food very good and lots of it
Breakfast was not exciting!!! Sausages very brown and shrivelled no fried eggs only scrambled, had to ask for glasses for juice and no-one came around offering tea or coffee. No choice of teas - Earl Grey would have nice!! Also shower would not work
Loved the house and grounds, staff were lovely
Beds were quite hard - twin single
Atmosphere, furniture, history, food and house cat
Running tap for a good 10 mins to get hot water
Food excellent Staff very curtious
Tried to give us a standard room when we had booked a superior room!
Great big room with comfy bed. Nice bathroom and friendly staff. Beautiful building and gardens.
No tea bags in my room and no hot water in shower in the morning although maybe I just didnt let it run for long enough.
Loved this beautiful old manor hotel It was cosy and embracing and would be perfect for romantic nights away . My room had a four poster bed and I had the most restful nights sleep . The staff were all lovely and the food was good too . I would definitely return and felt like I would like to revisit with family or friends for a nice weekend away . It reminded me of Hogwarts and I half expected the people in the paintings to move as I walked past !! Not at all creepy though and I was staying on my own !! Highly recommended
The Wi fi was poor and had to go into the lounge to get a signal as could not get one from my bedroom . The leisure club is not joined to the hotel so did not use . However in spite of this would still return.
Location and the hotel itself
The rooms are in need of refurbishment and redecoration. Also maintenance checks need to be more regular to ensure rooms are fit for purpose. We had to move rooms due to no heating and faulty toilet flushing and plumbing. Also some bulbs were either missing or not working.
Lovely old house and grounds but could do with a makeover.
Beautiful building with immense charm. Stunning grounds Convenient to Cardiff Willing staff
A bit drab Could do with a face lift to brighten things up. Brighter lights in all rooms and new WiFi.
Lack of wifi
The hotel is located in a very nice place and sorrounded by amazing and beautiful garden. A very friendly staff helped us a lot.
Mattress are too soft and springs are noticed. Ancien beds need a check-up and adjustment.
A beautiful building with a fabulous room. The food was excellent and the staff great
nothing to not like
Staff are fantastic and helpful, we rocked up late for breakfast and Carrie and the chef ensured we still had whatever we wanted on the menu. Great area for walking. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Bed really comfortable. Dinner was delicious.
We liked every thing!
I liked everything about my stay in this hotel and I will be returning for another stay very soon, every part of my stay was excellent and all the staff were very help full
the only thing I was unable to connect to the hotel WiFi but that was not much of a problem
very helpful staff enjoyed our meal
stairs, a lift would be big asset
The place and surrondings
Everything room superb food superb service exceptional building character superb quiet and relaxing
Wi fi didn't work in bedroom
Good sized room, comfortable bed
1)Breakfast was not ready at 7.00am 2)Food expensive and limited choice of bar food
There was no conditioner in the bathroom and they didn't have any ? When I asked where the nearest shop was they found one tiny bottle ! Also in health club , no shampoo or conditioner
Gorgeous grounds Historic buildings with style Huge, comfortable, quiet room Delicious breakfast in divine surroundings
Room a long way from front door.
The staff, the location and the grounds were all perfect.
I was staying with a group of friends who were in other rooms there were a couple of bathroom doors that would stick.
