Ricky on reception was good: helpful and efficinent, as were the concierge staff. Dinner was awful....really very, very poor....and my Mother was ill the next day. Very annoying mix up on rooms. I had booked 2 with balconies. But not available the 1st night, so Ihad to move. Was told room would be ready at 11, then told 12, then told sorry still not ready etc. Eventually moved into new room 2 hours later than expected..so spent 2 hours hanging about waiting to be able to shower and wash my hair....Missed family lunch party...arriving over an hour late. Really, really annoying. But Ricky helpful with wheelchair...though other reception staff less so. And some of the restaurant staff were great but others absolutely dreadful...unasked, one asked us to fill in a complaint form about the big, heavy platters and we waited a very long time between courses So on balance, some lovely staff, some dreadful and the dinner was inedible ...especially the goose breast (tiny silvers of fat...no meat, the poached pear which was rock hard and the crab claws which tasted overpoweringly of old fatfrom a deep fat fryer). Did not see a manager to complain ...have stayed there before. But this trip was a Total waste of money at over £900 for 2 people for 2 nights. ....

Location and excellent room, pity about the extra for a river view? The parking fee is a rip off! £17.50 when there is no other option. The Spa is small and during our visit was taken over by 5 young men who were acting foolishly and denying others the pleasure of the pool. This was ignored by the staff!

I liked the decor in the reception, bar and restaurant areas. Our room was good: nice decor, spacious, clean and had a lovely view onto the Cam. The cooked breakfast was well made. There were signs of long-standing wear and tear in a number of places (for example, many of the skirting boards were chipped, scuffed and missing paint), which was disappointing and spoilt otherwise lovely decor.

Central location for the city sights, shops, river, but also great to relax in and watch the world go by from the bar as it has views over the river and punting. Despite being in the centre of the city, when you walked outside you could hear birdsong over the meadows, not the noise of traffic. Excellent, well-presented facilities and decor in the public areas. Clean, modern, well-furnished rooms with good bathroom and powerful shower. Breakfast was good and plentiful with wide selection - full English cooked breakfast, cold meats, breads, danish pastries, fresh fruit, cereals and muesli etc. Indoor pool and fitness centre are a bonus, too, but there is so much to do and see in Cambridge, you won't be bored!

High quality accommodation and service, much improved since Hilton took over. The location in the centre of Cambridge is perfect. The charge of £17.50 per night for parking is extortionate and leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

The Doubletree Hilton is a very modern hotel. Beautiful entrance, excellent staff in all areas of the hotel - reception, restaurant, bar, room maids etc. Very helpful, offering plenty of insight into the bar menu. Bedrooms are very comfortable, clean and spacious with lovely views. Location couldn't be better, right on the river and 2 mins to colleges and shopping. Will definately be visiting again.

Good location. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice restaurant and bar, good breakfast. Although the room and bar/restaurant were of a good standard the hotel reception, stairwell and corridors were very shabby. Very disappointed with value for money-we paid £230 for our too which is expensive-we had no robes in our room, they wanted to charge extra for using wi-fi. We travel a lot and these things are usually standard when paying a rate like that. The toiletries weren't great. The most disappointing aspect of the whole weekend was that one of our main reasons for booking was the spa- there was no shampoo or conditioner in the changing rooms and the pool and jacuzzi were shabby. We had been looking forward to lounging by the pool and reading but there was only 1 lounger. We objected to having to pay for the hotel car park too.

Nothing except where it is located The website does not accurately reflect the room that you pay for. We were told that it was bad luck that we were given a small room and that the hotel had many different sized rooms. We paid £ 303.70 including 1 night car parking. The reception staff were condescending and abrupt. The restaurant staff were helpful but the hot food at the breakfast buffet was worse than a motorway service station. The selection of fresh fruit was very limited. This place needs improving before it brings down the name of Hilton.

Central location. Modern accommodation, good brasseries dining experience on Saturday evening. Excellent food v good value for money though average wine rather over priced Spa not bad pool a little on small side but other facilities were fine Its getting shabby. Carpets in common areas look tired paintwork knockEd about. The breakfast was not great and very over priced. Went out into Cambridge on our second morning and had a much nicer breakfast for a lesser price V surprised to have to pay for Internet access in 4star hotel. Poor form HiltonGroup!

“Clean, comfortable and convenient for the town centre. Very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast was excellent. Room clean and comfortable with a superb view over Parkers Park. !0 minute walk from railway station but has a large free carpark if you need it. (Most hotels in the city were charging residents up to £16 per night to park). We have stayed at other Best Western hotels and we are very pleased with the standards and the prices that this chain has to offer. Looking forward to our next visit.” Colin, Rochester |
