On the banks of the River Foss, this hotel is in York's city centre, near the ancient city walls. It has a swimming-pool, a restaurant and a bar.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights 19th-21st dec 2014. The staff and the hotel were fab location into york from there was brilliant just a few minutes walk , will definitely be staying here again
We had an amazing large bedroom with a four poster bed.very spacious.breakfast was fantastic everything you could wish for.
There is now no car parking at the hotel although we were pre warned about this as they are building suites onto the existing hotel using the car park.i originally booked and have stayed at this hotel for over 15 years and it was the car parking that first attracted me.
The staff were courteous, and all said good morning, even when passing in corridors Extremely helpful in the bar/restaurant and catered well for me as I have some issues with swallowing following a recent operation - nothing was too much trouble
Smell of drains in the bathroom - fixed it by keeping plugs in in sink and bath, and ensuring loo seat down (Did notice the same smell as well out in the street, some way from the hotel)
Very friendly service, excellent location, rooms are spacious
breakfast was a bit expecive, so I didn't book it; wifi didn't work in the room (worked perfectly in the lobby though)
The hotel itself and the lounge lobby area was great, staff exellant, location perfect
Room 11 desperately needs renervating, from a noisey floor to a old bathroom, and a scolding hot tap opposite way around to the bathroom taps leaving hot on the right, red ring faded, scolded my lip after brushing teeth
Central Location was ideal, no need to use the car at all during our visit.
There was a function on every night of our stay which we were not notified until arrival, loud music until midnight, not very happy
It was convenient ..The breakfast was good and the staff we're pleasant? Also the car park was very close ..
We didn't like the room we were in .The radiator was a very small one for the size of the room and it was tucked away in an alcove so we were cold unless we were in bed , it was also noisy as there was party's on in the function room ..but you can expect that as they were Xmas party's ..
Noise from the road outside during the night.the rooms hsve no double glazing, which in my opinion is really poor, besring in mind you are located very close to the hospital,so sirens keeping you awake all night.
The hotel is within easy reach of the city centre and shopping being situated just outside the city wall. The bed was quite comfortable. Pleasant staff, and the breakfast was more than adequate.
The furniture is beginning to look shabby. The WiFi was not accessible from our room due to a bad signal most of the time. There was building work going on which did not really effect our stay other than we had to pay for parking in a nearby car park which was full and it was pot luck where and how long you waited for an eventual parking place to become available.
Location, location, location. This is perfect for the minster and the town centre. Staff warm and friendly. Breakfast very good with plenty of choice
No car parking!!!! Was announced as available when booked but then had to pay £5 per day to park at council car park.
Location great. Food - both breakfast and restaurant. Staff - very friendly and attentive. Although no car park there are 2 very close by and the daily permit works well.
Is undergoing refurbishment and this should help as some areas are looking a bit tired.
Staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful at this independently owned hotel. The location is outstanding, about 3 minutes walk from York Minster, and 5 from The Shambles, Betty's Tea Rooms and all the wonderful unique little shops. We usually eat in the bar or the restaurant, again excellent service and good food. One of the great plusses used to be the free parking; sadly this has gone as they are extending the hotel, but for only £5 a day you can leave your car throughout your stay in the next door council run car park. The hotel provides the pass you need to display, so hassle-free. I'm looking forward to trying out the new accommodation!
Nothing really to dislike but I have to admit the decor is starting to look a bit tired and in need of a refresh. I'm assuming this will follow on from the extension of the hotel into new rooms.
Location, friendly staff and good b Breakfast.secure under cover car park nearby but had to pay steep charges
Bedroom was freezing when I arrived and I had to ask twice to get the hearting on
Close to york centre. Breakfast was good.
No onsite parking
Friendly staff. Very good value breakfast.
Room 24 - right above a very busy junction. Noisy traffic, late night noise from people passing. Old loose sash windows rattling in the wind. Not conducive to getting any sleep. Ancient dilapidated furniture.
Location, staff, food and drink.
Room 20 is subject to traffic noise leading to a poor nights sleep. A hospital close by does'nt help. (Crash helmets should be provided to cater for the sloping roof). We will request an interior room next year.
The hotel is a stones throw from the centre of York and its attractions, so no need at all to use the car. Breakfast was buffet style with a very good and varied choice. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again.
Room, Lounge Area, Light Bite Menu, Bar Staff, Space of hotel
not warm enough in lounge
The room was spacious and overlooking the minster
Virtually any movement meant the floor creaked, when we arrived the room was very cold so the heating had to be on full for 4 hours. Unfortunately the room had the lift machinery within (almost like anyway) which was noisy until 01:00 and then when people started leaving at 06:00 so sleep was hindered
Location staff helpfulness parking
Breakfast finishing at 9.30..missed it on first morning building works...but understand the reason for the work
What a difference a year makes, stayed here last year very good, but on arrival only to find extensive building work going on to extend hotel NO car park anymore just a muddy off loading area reception staff very abrupt and was told had to pay for car park down the road, Management seem to have changed and all they had was very young staff who did not know what they were doing. paid for upgraded room which was ok but very tired looking and could not regulate the radiator so room was far to hot and had to sleep with windows open all night when it was -3 outside. Breakfast food was ok but had to wait for staff to top up the hot food and people were waiting for tables not enough staff to clear tables and the condition of the restaurant was dirty and old. I would certainly not recommend this Hotel and we will certainly not be going back there.
I liked the location of the hotel near to York Minster and the attractions of York. The staff were very helpful and the hotel was very comfortable. York is a great place for sightseeing and sightseeing.
There was nothing That I did not like
the breakfast was delicious every thing you wanted it set us up for a big day walking round york
the quilt was to heavy for my legs but that's not your fault
The location is great, next to the city wall. Friendly staff, comfortable, clean rooms. Nice breakfast. Have stayed before.
No car park. Secure overnight one is close @ £5. Shuts at 8pm. Imagine having to leave for urgent reasons, and car locked in until next morning? Will be deal breaker for future use by me.
Location was perfect to explore York. The car park was very convenient and for a NCP the charge was reasonable.
I couldn't log on to the WiFi.
