Best Western Monkbar Hotel    

The staff were excellent - unfailingly helpful Courtyard is lovely

It was cold and windy during my stay, so couldn't enjoy the courtyard as much as I would have wished

We loved the location it was just a 2 minute walk to the centre, we had the attic room (room 40) which was quiet, modern and very clean, the staff were extremely efficient and friendly. The breakfast is highly recommended, we will definitely be back for our annual visit to York races.

No hot water in the morning (Holiday Monday). Reason given hotel full and everyone wanting showers at same time!

Location Friendly

Noisy on the Saturday night the room room was located over the function room and a disco and music was extremely loud.

Convenient for our purpose

The steps up to our oom. We asked for one not overlooking the very busy road as we like to sleep with windows open.

The room was below the standard of other hotels I have stayed in, and we were disappointed with it. It was just as well we are both active old people, because the lift was inadequate.

Our room was very comfortable and clean but is probably due for an update as bathroom seemed rather worn. However the hotel was in a great location just a short walk to all the shops and restaurants and a stones throw from the walls and the minster.

Unluckily as we arrived workman were just erecting scaffolding to paint the outside as they apparently do every five years. It was rather noisy they started before eight most mornings so not good if you were going to enjoy a lie in.

good location for visiting York, easy to find. Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

Although the room was clean, an upgrade is needed as the windows were draughty and noisy especially as we were near the main road. The restaruant staff at breakfast were not very friendly, we had to ask for coffee and toast on both mornings! The breakfast was fine, but unispiring if you don't want a traditional cooked breakfast, because of our experience at breakfast we weren't inclined to use the restaurant for dinner.

Location, size of room.

The breakfast was very good and offered an excellent choice. The room was comfortable and the house keeping was also very good.

There was an annoying squeaking floor in the room, which must also have been irritating to the guests below.

The hotel was brill , the staff were really friendly and helpful , you also have parking

from first entering the hotel, nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The rooms are of an excellent standard. The hotel is a two minute walk into the centre of York

Friendly, helpful staff; good food;excellent location for all York's attractions.

A pity about two consecutive nights of disco ( though not too late).

Access to all the major attactions within walking distance. Breakfast was excellent. Overall an exellent base for seeing York.

Not a lot- location convenient

Cost £125/ night -No Breakfast included in that. It would have cost £50 extra for that. Shabby bathroom- outdated & no light overt the mirror- on complaint - said sorry having difficulty getting the bulbs as the fitting was out of date. Dirty seating in reception area ie. Greasy around the head area & the arms. Will not use Best Western again

The food was excellent with v good service. The staff were friendly and helpful - efficient indeed. The room 104 was spacious and well decorated and the bed comfortable.

The bathroom is too small though everything works. When showering there is hardly room to swing a cat!

poor breakfast, ( beans dry, scrambled eggs very sloppy, ash browns over cooked, poor quality sausage, watered down orange juice). only thing that let our stay down.

Comfortable and relaxing lounge and reasonably priced bar. Spacious and comfortable bedrooms. good breakfasts.
