The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. The surroundings/gardens are lovely and the hotel itself is full of history and character. Our meals were excellent, (both dinner and breakfast). Stayed here 30 years ago and it was still as lovely as it had been then. Changed ownership, but still the same manager! Our only disappointment was that the bedroom was really small. On our previous visit, we had been allocated one of the large rooms in the original part of the hotel, which was absolutely beautiful.

My aunt and I (together with two dogs) were made to feel very welcome by all the staff that we encountered. We each had a very comfortable double room. Some outside areas appeared rather neglected and in need of a tidy up.

The location is lovely even in the winter. For us it was perfectly situated between the relatives we were visiting. The location is peaceful. All the staff we encountered whether we needed to engage with them directly or simply passed by in the corridor, were cheerful and helpful. Our room was clean & tidy and the bed very comfortable - a blessing after a long drive. I would have liked herbal teas on the complimentary tray. Pillows a bit lumpy. Breakfast, which we didn't have, too expensive and although we were offered alternatives, the small, simple requirements we had would still have cost over £10 each.

It looks the part but the two rooms I had suffered issues, tv broken, damp smell and very warm. Please note that the hotel has characteur and it was actually fair value for money but plush, sumptuous, posh are not words you could use.

The staff were helpful and friendly, the room was clean and had nice touches like bottled water and proper coffee. Bargain for £50 from booking.com Free wifi throughout the hotel was also a bonus, especially as the hotel is in quite a rural location, not sure how good a signal you would get on mobile/dongles. The bar menu is reasonably priced, and the food was lovely, but portions are quite small.

I enjoyed the afternoon tea and restaurant , and was especially pleased to be able to bring my 2 small dogs with me - that is what made me choose this hotel. The staff were very helpful, and the grounds beautiful - patricularly the riverside woodland walk. I thought it silly just to have one bottle of soap by the sink and no soap bar in the bath - that was inconvenient. Also the ladies in the next room were so noisy chatting all night and then starting again at 6.30 the next morning (Sunday) that I did not have the restful time I was hoping for - maybe the walls between roon 1 and 2 are very thin?

It was a good looking building with nice grounds but the weather was poor so did not visit them. I enjoyed staying in the hotel despite the fact that the the options in the restaurant were poor. The television was one of the old type and it could be upgraded. The restaurant was empty but the only choice on the menu was an expensive christmas menue. However the bar meals were good.

Very nice old building in a lovely village. We only stayed one night and didn't have time to explore the gardens. The hotel was very clean and quiet. Breakfast was good but not as large as I expected it to be. We didn't have dinner in the hotel so we can't comment, but we ate at a very nice pub across the road. A very good hotel for the money we paid. I would definately stay there again and would recommend it. Our double bed was made up of two singles put together so you had to be careful not to fall in between them. The towels were a bit thin and rough.
