Score from 371 reviews Very good
bedroom very good size, room comfortable. bed very generous and very comfortable. toilet good size , with the provision of bath and shower ..shower ok,but could have been a little cleaner.. also bathrobes would have been nice .
signage regarding reception on arrival could be better.also a little better lighting between car park and hotel.
Staff very helpful and friendly
Hotel over priced for facilities and although hotel undergoing updating should reflect in the price. Our room 14 hadn't been done. Kept end burning leg on stupid towel rail being to near toilet. Wallpaper hanging off wall. Terrible draft through ill fitting windows!!!!
Child friendly hotel with big family rooms. décor in some of the rooms may be a bit dated for some- but it was fine for us. Lovely staff. good breakfast and a good restaurant for dinner.
The ambiance of the hotel is characterful with a wow factor approach and delightful relaxing lounge area. Excellent breakfast
Rooms were tired and somewhat grubby in appearance; sadly lacking the wow factor of the anticipation when arriving. Room 11 in particular was very poor and we were moved to an acceptable room (albeit still in need of TLC) otherwise we would not have stayed.
Old buildings obviously have old windows. As it is listed nothing they can do but there was a draft. They did off the to move rooms for me. So all good really.
I loved the breakfast and attention to detail, such as special dietry needs. The l9cation and look of the place is lovely if lacking in a couple of facilities. I couldnt use the wifi
Food, location, ambience
Excellent food with a great choice from the valentines menu. Good value.
Well, after a great meal on Saturday for valentines breakfast was served with tinned mushrooms. Pillows were quite lumpy.
The hotel it's self ie looks
Dirty marks on walls looks like damp
We could bring our dog with us! Beautiful grounds. Lovely old hotel with lots of history. Lovely open fires.
Noisy plumbing.creaky floorboards but I guess that comes with the age of the place!
Genuinely old building with many original features such as open fires and fine wooded garden. Having one of the simpler rooms we paid very little but the service and facilities did not reflect that. Met one of the owners who is clearly doing her best to refurbish all the rooms and make it into a genuinely stately home. Food top class.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and we have no complaints. Clearly it has the capacity to become a top class hotel - probably beyond our budget.
The staff, service, surroundings, food, drink and prices made for a very enjoyable stay.
The bed pillows were lumpy
Nice friendly staff, good quality breakfast with wide range of choice, beautiful manor house with cosy furnishings to the foyer and lounge and good size car park.
We stayed in the more modern block, I did feel for the rate of the room we should have stayed in the original house part as the price seemed higher than the quality of room in the modern wing. The bathroom was clean but the shower wasn't powerful and fittings are bit dated. This didn't ruin our stay but I was expecting plusher rooms.
I have stayed many times as it is home from home. Shower pressure very poor but this could easily be improved on
The building.. We liked both the interior, and exterior and its history. The friendliness of the staff. Food, both breakfast and dinner were very nice too..
Staff were lovely and the grounds were perfect for a walk! Especially the morning it snowed!
We were told the rooms were being updated, unfortunately for us we must have got one of the last to update, however it was still very comfotable and cosy.
This hotel in lovely surrounding exceeded our expectations. Cleanliness was exemplary, staff friendly and service impeccable. Bar was cosy with fire burning in big fireplace. We enjoyed the experience and would definitely return. We recommend it to tourists, business people or for one night passing through to another destination.
Bed was too hard for our liking.
Wonderful historic building, friendly staff and good food.
Had some lovely food from the bar, staff very helpful. Good fire blazing
Everything, excellent stay throughout.
Great place to stay with dogs - grounds are lovely for morning walks
Long walk to the room I was in and shower could have been hotter
Value for money. Beautiful old building. Staff very good.
Nice place with a heart and soul - top marks for breakfast. Good staff and Vince shall return
I don't remember anything
A beautiful building with well appointed rooms - excellent value
The atmosphere of the entrance rooms, created by beautiful christmas trees, relaxing furniture, welcoming staff.
Bedroom walls were 'scuffed' and the bathroom shower was weak
The staff were particularly helpful and polite, making us feel very welcome. Breakfast was fresh and well cooked. Clean, well presented bedrooms for a comfortable nights sleep. Would definitely recommend.
