Price of accommodation friendliness comfort log fires fantastic food service
still a bit tired although redecs are in progress
Gorgeous gardens and tranquil river. Ideal romantic location - great for weddings or anniversaries. Easy location to get to and ideal for visiting many attractions in the surrounding area. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast.
The only (very minor) negative was that you don't sign anything when ordering drinks from the bar. When we got our bill, there were some drinks on there that were not ours. They didn't make a fuss and immediately removed the charges. But I feel sorry for the owners because it means that someone else left without paying for their drinks and the hotel lost out.
Tremendous value for money. Very helpful staff. Excellent food, well served. Very well equipped bedrooms with hot drinks, water and biscuits provided. Great Yorkshire breakfast. Roaring log fires. Beautiful grounds.
Courteous staff , breakfast was good. Comfortable bedroom.Unable to sample the dinner but menu looked good.
All staff members we come across were pleasant and obliging ,the rooms were warm and comfortable and very clean.the surrounding area and grounds were well kept. Breakfast was good, all in all a comfortable stay.
The meals in the restaurant were a little pricey as were the drinks at the bar otherwise not too much to complain about.
Staff very polite, efficient and helpful. Good food - breakfast's, lunch and evening meal. Room very clean and tidy.
Great value for money. Lovely staff great food
Slightly shabby decoratively
Lovely building and good atmosphere on a cold winters evening. Impressive grounds and good old friendly Yorkshire staff. We really enjoyed our night here.
The wine was central London prices and the service slow, probably due to insufficient staff rather than not working hard enough but then again its a hall in a village in Yorkshire not a city hotel. The pros outweigh the cons.
Location and surroundings
Excellent value for money and beautiful surrounding; lovely hotel!
It was a great value hotel as in the price of the room etc, the beds were excellent, dinner and breakfast was lovely, the only down side we ordered a can of Guinness and 2 diluted Orange we Were charged £14,80, ridiculous ,
Very comfortable and not the usual corporate blandness. It is nice to find a traditional hotel.
The rooms have been kept in keeping with a building of this age. staff were very friendly and helpful
The bathroom needed some maintenance and upgrading. there was no hotel information in the room making room service more of a chore than it needed to be. the menu was more basic than I was expecting, but the burger was good!
Filthy carpet in room. Dirty wall where fitment was missing. Bedside lampshade missing. Cracked tiles in bathroom.
This place is amazing - I would go out of my way to overnight here in the future. We weren't here for long (we arrived late evening), but it was a little slice of heaven...
The architecture, the comfort, food and the staff also the location . Easy access to many scenic sites and shopping facilities. Towns, city's and many attract6ions,ancient and modern.
A beautiful place to stay, and excellent value
Food was to a high standard, staff were well trained and very helpful Room was very clean
Service both breakfast and dinner was a little slow Internet was slow and kept losing connection Some of the lights in the bedroom didn't work or bulbs needed replacing
Location, grounds building.
Slightly tired, average dinner.
Good choices on the restaurant menu, very well presented and tasty, excellent and quick cheerful service. Standard bedroom was comfy but, well, standard, would like to come back to a better room.
Seeing the bar man checking the glasses for cleanliness and rejecting the first three as unfit. Should they not be cleaned and checked before? At least the barman looked before pouring our drinks.
Terrible room Food awful
Our double bedroom at the front of the house was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom facilities were excellent. There is also a comfortable sitting room. the building itself is imposing and set off the main road. The grounds still require work but we know there is an ongoing plan of renovations.
The bed was rather close to the bathroom door and might pose problems for people who are infirm in any way. The food in the restaurant was rather average and the wine list was rather poor.
The family room was so spacious, even given that we were 2 adults and 3 children. The bathroom was equally roomy. The grounds are beautiful and include a woodland walk with bridges over the lake. Delicious breakfast, friendly staff, excellent value for money and we would definitely return.
Located in a great setting, in a lovely village, it was very quiet and peaceful. The staff were excellent and it was great value for money.
Location, character of the property and excellent grounds
This fine period Hall needs urgent renovation/maintenance works. Look up at the dining room ceiling to confirm this! We stayed in the more modern wing for 4 nights; had to move room after 1st. Both rooms had plumbing & other issues. We would consider another stay if the rate is favourable.
