Staff was really nice, friendly and helpful. Nice gardens, cosy place, very good restaurant. Very good pillows!
Hotel is a bit tired, dated, and to expensive for what it is, breakfast is not included and overpriced. Rooms are small and shower is awkward.
Very clean and friendly staff
We thought it was expensive
The service and friendliness of the staff was faultless. The Terrace restaurant was some of the best Michelin Star food we have eaten. The restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere and the staff's attention to detail was first class. We thoroughly recommend it. The breakfast too was excellent.
We felt that the rooms let it down slightly as they were somewhat dated and showing signs of becoming tired but they were clean. We appreciate it is a traditional hotel and even making allowances, the room charge is a little on the high side for the size and quality of the accommodation. That said we shall return as the food far excels the room quality.
The décor The design The cleanliness The location The breakfast
The staff are unobtrusive and very professional; the garden is a quiet, restorative enclave unto itself; and the sense of individual attention to guests is communicated by the differently named rooms, the traditional "fittings", and that quirky, winding staircase.
An abrasive safety rubber mat for the shower should be a permanent fixture (part of the tub floor) in light of the risk that a very elderly guest - not to mention one with borderline dementia - might have difficulty laying down the one provided or neglect even to try.
the atmosphere was calm and lovely. loved the garden and the food.deffinitely would go again.
room rather small, but then an old building.
Just lovely, Friendly Professional staff. Excellent customer service. Beautiful, peaceful setting close to Bucklers Hard and Beaulieu. A very special place with its own history, a real privilege to have stayed here. Loved the Tea and Coffee tray in the morning and the homemade biscuits!!!. Provided safe parking for Vintage Car as requested. Real attention to detail not often found anywhere else these days.
Having to leave to go home!!!.
The hotel is very comfortable and well equipped, but without the uniformity that spoils most large hotel chains. The gardens are delightful and the restaurant is outstanding, both in quality and cost.
The room rate on bookings.com is not cheap, but does not include breakfast, this seems parsimonious for a country hotel, even one with a Michelin star.
PERFECT SETTING AND SERVICE
BED TOO HARD NEEDS AVAILABILITY OF MATTRESS SOFTNER/PROTECTOR. WHEN BOOKING MAKE IT A REQUEST ITEM SO CLIENTS KNOW ITS AVAILABLE. NOT EVERYBODY IS INTO FEATHER PILLOWS GIVE A CHOICE
Breakfast was the best, so was room service and housekeeping. And night duty in charge was excellent! But those complementary cookies was so so yummy! And having it with the morning complementary coffee was a nice way to waking up.
I was in room 29, everything was great except for outside noise and smell. I think it was near the loading and unloading area. So in the morning it was noisy. And sometimes smelly!
Room, atmosphere in hotel,food,location
No lift, lack of consideration for disabled guests, car park distance
Very helpful attentive staff. Country house comfort. Delicious food. The garden had a croquet lawn water feature and lovely places to enjoy a drink. Little touches such as the complimentary turn down and morning tea were a treat.
Background music consisted mostly of trad jazz which was fine for a while but needed a bit more musical variety for our tastes. Coffee offered was of poor quality. It would have made a difference if they had an Expression machine. It was a Michelin star restaurant after all!
The village is beautiful and the hotel luxurious and tranquil Food and wine pairing was excellent Lovely garden for relaxing with a drink
I stayed the Montagu Arms to meet my brother and the following day my cousin. Upon arrival the welcome was very professional by warm and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and all the staff were brilliant. It had a great customer service attitude. There was a wonderful atmosphere of feeling welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Great touches like having tea/coffee brought to the room in the morning as part of the service. The gardens were lovely as was the whole setting. I was only there one night but would highly recommend it.
The restaurant is excellent and the quality of the food is reflected in the price. Comfortable surroundings and beautiful gardens. Good service from knowledgeable staff.
The bedroom was small and we were kept awake all night by the noise of traffic - a big disappointment.
Rooms were well serviced Staff were excellent-no praise too high Setting was lovely and garden fantastic Overall would recommend this Hotel but would caution consulting Wine list prices before ordering anything
West End prices were not appreciated-£45 for a bottle of Prosecco!! Family at top of the Hotel were nearly overcome with the heat-no Air Cond. and fans were insufficient
Staff outstanding; very good food.
Hard to think of anything.
The hotel itself was really quaint, and in a lovely location. Little touches such as bringing up hot coffee/tea and someone coming in to turn the sheets made the experience special.
The first thing we were told when we arrived was that we could have saved a lot of money if we had booked directly. The communication between the hotel and Booking.com was fragmented and I had to chase both to find out whether we could have the price matched. In the end Booking.com never called us back to notify us that we had in fact been price matched so we missed out on the complimentary breakfast (£20 a head) on both days. We felt the service we received from both the hotel and Booking.com was poor, and this had a negative impact on our holiday.
The tasting menu in the Terrace Restaurant was superb. Not something we would do every time as quite pricy with wine as well but well worth the experience. Especially taking coffee afterwards in the lovely gardens on a summer evening - just perfect!
We had a room at the front of the hotel which was quite noisy in the mornings with lorries unloading at the pub, so not great if you wanted a lie in. And charging £1.75 for still water when you're already charging a lot for the tasting menu and wine and coffee etc was a little bit 'cheap' really.
Gardens Edwardian style attention of staff
Size of bedroom Lack of air conditioning
The ambience, professionalism and friendliness of the staff. attention to detail, delicious food. A haven of peace and the best Night Porter ever! A haven of pecs and perfection
Nothing. But ask for a room facing the garden. Front rooms face the road and it is not possible to open your window because or traffic although there is very little traffic at night.
Double charged me in spite of my earlier in time notification of cancelation for one of the nights - not happy
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Montagu Arms was the perfect spot for our party of six with a range of ages from 8 to 71. Each room was different, so everyone felt special. Staff was more than accommodating! Restaurant food and Inn next door was delicious.
No A/C in some of the rooms but that's usual for England. However, staff wonderfully provided fans if cooling was needed.
well kept in beautiful town
Price should have at least some breakfast offer even to room with croissant or roll given cost. recognize restaurant for dinner is specials, but breakfast is not challenging for a star
