Score from 437 reviews Good
This is a lovely hotel in a lovely location. Nice clean rooms of a good size, nice bathroom. Good atmosphere, nice bar (try the Dartmoor Jail Ale) and a restaurant with an excellent card for fair prices.
The weather - but I was compensated for that.
Not staying longer
Location, view, attentiveness of staff. Breakfast well worth the £8 - and our 13-year-old was given a £3 discount we had not expected. Would have loved to experience the steak restaurant in the evening, but it is popular and we had not booked a table. There are several hostelries within 15 minutes drive.
Beds are a very personal thing. The Moorland Hotel, in common with most hotels, had a fairly firm double bed in our room. The twin room beds were softer. I know many people claim to prefer a firm bed, and I can't fault the hotel for providing what a lot of customers would think OK, but we are not of that persuasion, and a lovely soft bed would have made the hotel (for us) perfect in every respect.
Stunning views and very friendly staff. Comfortable bed and the room was top notch.
Had to wait at reception for longer then necessary as the staff member was in the kitchen and did not here the bell.
Friendly and hospitable staff. Good bar with a range of real ales. Evening meal very good, steak cooked to perfection and excellent vegetarian options. Breakfast was good, great value for £8! We had the Wotter room, if you get chance, book this; it is massive and comes with a Jacuzzi bath. Location convenient for Plymouth or touring the moors. Take care with Sat. Nav. directions, follow B roads!
Good Steak in the 'Steakhoue' restaurant. But mainly the attitude towards family pet. As long as the dog is well behaved and tidy in the room then this is a great hotel for them with excellent location on the edge of Dartmoor and near some beautiful riverside walks.
Nothing. all a good standard as expected. This is not a 'Posh' or pretentious hotel.
With University Freshers week in full flow, somewhere out of the centre of town was must - great location and views.
Food was yummy, staff really nice
The room TV was very small
Breakfast Room layout
It's a bit shabby Very hard mattress
We enjoyed great food in nice surroundings with a drink on the terrace beforehand. I loved the stylish but practical bathroom, the beds were really comfortable. There are lovely walks directly accessible from the hotel. Dogs are welcome, but hardly noticeable (we did not bring one). The hotel is located in beautiful countryside!
Excellent restaurant. Friendly staff. Good location for peace and quiet
No fault of The Moorland, thunderstorm and lightening knocked out power in night meaning no hot water in morning
Friendly easy service. A nice welcome. It is in a delightful area, once you have found it and the outlook from the bedroom was also delightful.
The room was a long way from the hot water supply! The heating was off in the bedroom but we found an electric heater which saved the day. The hotel is not easy to find at night.
Great location, the evening meal was lovely.
Breakfast was a disappointment with 20 minutes between each of us receiving our breakfast, meaning that we each ate seperately. Very unhappy at being charged £8 for 2 pieces of toast and pot of coffee.
Quietness away from city centre
The view towards Plymouth is wonderful, and being able to take the dog (into room, into bar, everywhere) is a real bonus.
It is not that easy to get into Plymouth town, roads (for obvious reasons) are very narrow.
Good view over looking Plymouth. Nice quiet location on edge of moors which you can walk onto from Hotel.Food very good especialy the steaks. Good service.
rural location with great views, but still close to city
some roads very narrow to reach location
Good room and shower room, very clean. For a longer stay more drawer/shelf space might be needed.
A bit further tah we expected from Plymouth. Noisy neighbours - balcony was lovely - but loud conversation next door was tedious
The peaceful atmosphere, the views, the quality of the room and service.
Having to leave.
Staff, Location, Value
Room was MUCH better than the rather none discript external appearance of the hotel and the slightly drab reception and stairway led us to expect. It's clearly a well considered renovation in progress and we hope we contributed to the success of the project. The views were wonderful, huge, comfortable bed, dinner: excellent ingredients not messed about with.
A few niggles. Jacuzzi bath: we kept having to top up the water as the hypersensitive, pop up plug (even when we could get it to stay down) still didn't fit well and so was constantly, slowly emptying. The staff, while pleasant, there either weren't enough of them or they needed a little more experience, as they were a little slow (e.g. ordered beer, after a couple of minutes were informed barrel needed changing and beer would be brought to our seat, no worries, after 20 minutes and a return to the bar to remind them beer was produced).
Food, Staff, Location
Some areas of the hotel seemed a bit dated, but i understand they are working on it
Me and my partner went for a weekend break its was fantastic, the staff couldnt do enough for you a jacuzzi in the room was a bonus food was brilliant, we will be going again!!!
Couldnt find a fault with anything.
Great hotel with friendly staff and the food was lovely.
The location was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast and evening meal was good.
