A 5-minute walk from the train station and close to Dartmoor, this Victorian town house is situated in the heart of Exeter.
Score from 248 reviews Very good
This superior 2-star hotel is in the heart of Torquay, just a short walk from the seafront and right next to the English Riviera Conference Center.
Score from 624 reviews Very good
With a stunning location in Dartmoor National Park, this inn is set in the rural hamlet of Haytor Vale. Dating back to the 18th century, it offers fantastic food and free Wi-Fi throughout.
Score from 56 reviews Excellent
The Breakfast was very good; prompt and very nice; the evening meal we had was also very good, as was the packed lunch - generous and good quality sandwiches. The Drying Room was superb, much needed on Dartmoor. The room I had was well ventilated and comfortable - windows I could open and radiators I could control!
Shower water pressures are a bit low, making one hug the tap end of the bath. Not a biggie.
the bungalow/lodge was fantastic! can't recommend it enough! was a home from home with everything you need, cosy, comfortable, clean and fresh - was an absolute pleasure to stay there and we will 100% be going back. we loved it and didn't want to leave!
nothing bad to say at all!
Great hotel located less than a kilometre from Haytor Rocks, Clean and comfortable throughout with friendly, helpful staff. Rooms are well appointed and hotel facilities include a 'boot room' where boots can be cleaned and dried.. essential after a days walking in the Dartmoor National Park.
Not a problem as such but if you are a first time visitor to the hotel and not part of an HF holiday, it would be useful to have some notices or guidance on arrival so that guests not familiar with the hotel's procedures don't feel a little lost.
great drying room, good food, friendly staff
Well maintained garden. Clean and comfortable bed and very pleasant staff. Modest prices.
Your food is very poorly cooked and this level takes one back to the 1960s. This is not professional cooking and may well be the work of a couple of local lads. Hard bullets of stuffing, totally uncooked cauliflower and over cooked green beans. A fruit salad with melon in it is a direct reference to a poor and lazy chef and with hard unpeeled apple - dreadful.
Loved the location as we were able to walk to Hay Tor, the main purpose of our visit. Staff were friendly and the facilities were. Wry good.
Location, Location, Location.
It was very clean
this hotel caters for walking holiday people staying on pre booked holidays and are not geared up for the odd b&b guest, manager was unable to supply me with a receipt for our one nights stay as everything controled by head office....had to make phone call to ask.
Great location on Dartmoor itself. Fab for walking.
At breakfast, had to share large round table with strangers and had to ask for items to be passed constantly, including the 1 rack of toast and 1 pot of tea. First time to see a cooked breakfast served on a plate only slightly larger than a side plate.
Good sized room and comfortable beds. Everything felt fresh and clean. Very friendly staff who made us feel welcome. A good place to be based for excursions on to Dartmoor. Good local pub, within walking distance, serving excellent food if you don't fancy what's on offer from the hotel. Breakfast is served around communal tables which gave us a chance to interact with the other guests and not feel isolated.
quiet surrondings, with helpful/friendly staff.
Carparking and initial reception area could be improved.
The history of the property. The location: right on the moors. The staff: Mike and his team went above and beyond to assist us when we had a car accident. Great pub within walking distance.
The property could stand some updating.
Loved the close vicinity to Haytor and the Dartmoor information center. Made getting out on foot very convenient. The Dandelion Cafe (on site) was great for lunch and tea. Helpful advice for dinner recommendation at Rock Inn just 10min walk away. It was a perfect meal!
Thought price for a dinner at hotel a bit steep.
Friendly atmosphere, good location right on the moor. Breakfast very good. Excellent value for money
Didn't like the communal eating arrangements so didn't have dinner.
Super hotel in a great location and easy to find. All staff were very friendly and helpful and Mike the manager made sure he went that extra mile to make sure all guest were happy. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was very good with plenty of choice for all. We will go again.
very peacful location
Our group of 3 friends got a last minute booking after our weeks holiday in Bude.We needed a location near to family in Exeter and friends in Newton Abbot before we returned home to the Midlands.Moorlands House was ideal, lovely, clean and spacious rooms and very friendly and helpfull staff, Nearby Bovey Tracy has a very good Craft Guild with an excellent choice of Art's and Craft's and just out of town is the Marble House, a child's paradise full of Emett style working models !thousands of colourful marbles little fingers just love to choose from. I would be happy to recommend Moorlands House especially to walkers ,whilst we were there a group of Bridge Players arrived and all seemed very pleased with the accomadation .
Only that I couldn't connect to the internet from my room although my friends had perfect coverage in their room directly above mine.
The food and positiono
Only one towel on arrival. And no milk.
Facilities were fantastic. Everything was immaculate, so much so we thought we were the 1st family to stay.
Sofas which were pull out beds were uncomfortable.
Good breakfast. Late check in.
Slightly worn sink
needs updating, chipped tiles, badly hung curtains
The staff were excellent. The help yourself snack bar was a fantastic idea for guests that wanted to walk on the moor. Loved the evening quiz night. Great out of the way location.
The standard of cleanliness in our room was below average and the room itself a bit tired looking.
Location, food, friendly staff, comfortable.
It was assumed we were a part of a walking group and no separate eating arrangements had been prepared for us. This lead to an embarrassing situation where we were made to feel in the way. Fortunately a friendly member of staff sorted us out a separate table after I explained the situation. This could easily have been avoided with a little more forethought.
Rooms very clean and comfortable - staff helpful
Very friendly staff & host. Rooms clean & comfortable.
Staff a bit cavalier in their work - e.g. we had sparse WIFI coverage in our room & I went into the lounge where there was better coverage. Twice during the time I was there staff turned the lights out on me, taking no time to check that the room was empty before flicking the switch!
