Leisure facilities: general pool + spa good; spa for over 16s very good; gym, squash courts + studio classes excellent. Excellent bar meals. Good walks around. Having to put £100 on debit card as a "hold" for just 2 nights stay (overall not an issue, as deducted at check-out, but created a negative impact upon arrival).

The all inclusive facilities of the swimming and fitness centre and the location were excellent. We had booked 3 rooms. The bedrooms particularly the bathrooms were looking very dated and not what you would expect from this hotel.

Staff very helpful and polite. Lots of places around in the hotel to relax with food/drink or neither. Enjoyed the pool. Good walks from the hotel. The wake -up alarm call system went wrong and woke one of our party at 7.30am on her sleep-in day. In rooms on the first floor you can hear noise from downstairs.

enjoyed pool and sports facilities Thought the eating facilities (in evening ) were unattractive .Would have liked walks/map information more accessible eg a book in lobby that one could pick up and view rather than having to ask at reception

The situation of the hotel was ideal for walking and sight-seeing. Breakfast was good, and diningroom staff were pleasant and helpful. The rooms would have benefitted from having in-room security boxes. There was only one lift, which broke down on our first morning there - not ideal if you are elderly or have a baby in a pushchair/pram.

Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Excellent pool and spa facilities. Beautiful location. Room doors easily slam when closed, and this kept me awake most of the night (also unconsidered of some other guests). Breakfast is generally fair, bit limited, but coffee really needs upgrading (Brittain has moved on from dishwater!).

I loved the free use of the spa and gym. Being on your own for business and when having a meal given a table for 4 people in the middle so you stand out! Most places put you on a two seater table along a window or wall.

Have stayed at the Hotel before, nice and friendly and a great location. Fire Alarm went off late at night and it was like a scene from Faulty Towers, nobody had a clue what was going, very worrying.

The public areas were welcoming and large however the temperature was on the low side and we had to sit in coats to keep warm. The conference facilities would have benefitted from windows that closed fully and again the temperature was so low it was uncomfortable. The radiator's to the right of the room did not come on at all. The quality of the food served from the resturant was in my view very poor, The veg had been re-heated and tasted stale, no one came to ask itf we were happy. When a traveller has had a difficult journey and then finds themselves placed in a dirty room with mould on the walls, peeling wallpaper and a cracked sink to then be subjected to a meal of this poor standard it really doesn't encourage you to come back. I expected more from a best western.

Has potential to be a lovely country hotel. Room was not cleaned properly, old soap left in room. Room was very cold, and most of hotel was in a shabby condition and could do with a revamp. Breakfast was below standard and overall the stay did not represent good value for money. The health club and spa was also a bit tatty and on the occasion when we phoned through for an appointment the member of staff in question was not particularly helpful..

The location was lovely - even in the low cloud that we encountered - it must be beautiful in the summer. The room was OK, but good value as we stumbled onto a special offer for 3 nights. Weekend breakfast was very good. Our bathrooms was dated and needed some investment. Sadly on one day we had neither heating or hot water - not the hotels fault, but annoying all the same.

Location: Good for walking. Good for High Mills. Leisure centre was good: Nice pool, gym and excercise room. Good food in restaurant and bar. Shabby condition of room. Mould on walls Inattentive Reception Staff: My only request during the stay was not actioned. Although I completed the necessary form and handed it to Reception in the morning, by the evening of the same day no action had been taken and staff were unaware. Inattentive Restaurant Staff (with one noteable exception - an older waiter in the morning): Long wait to take orders, forgotten orders.

I have been there on many occassions. We love the location and staff are friendly etc. Its a very relaxing stay it could do with modernising but its comfortable as it is. We enjoy swimming, walking, the gym and most of all the jacuzzi area and relaxing suite. I must say the food there is also excellent with an excellent choice. Overall its a must!

We liked the location of the hotel, the pool was pleasant but the spa/jacuzzi pool was not in working order which was a huge disappointment. The breakfasts were good. The price we paid for 2 nights was value for money. The evening meal was a disappointment. The room was too small and somewhat claustrophobic. The floorboards in the room were extremely creaky and noisy and the bathroom was small and cramped. The carpets and furniture in the public areas were rather shabby. However we paid only a budget price for 2 nights so as the saying goes, 'you get what you pay for'.

One of the reasons we chose the hotel was for it's supposed proximity to Buxton which is listed on the website as 7.5 miles. However, the hotel is situated at least 15 miles from Buxton which was a disappointing start to the holiday and detracted from our plans. The first room we were shown was freezing on arrival, and shabby in appearance so we asked to change rooms. The second room was a bit better on the surface but on closer inspection, we found the carpet to be threadbare in places, damp in the corner of the bedroom ceiling, the bathroom to have mildew along the bath, damp and mould on the ceiling and the cistern to make a loud noise every time it was refilled. Check out was a pleasant 12 noon, however, the cleaning lady wandered in to the room without knocking well before this time. All in all, very disappointing - we will not be going again.
