Gateshead
The Moss Grove Organic Hotel has been designed to be both luxurious and environmentally friendly. The spacious rooms have private bathrooms, large beds, organic toiletries and flat-screen TVs. The Victorian building retains its vintage charm but has been updated throughout. The renovation work used eco-friendly and natural products from clay paint to sheep’s wool insulation. Many of the beds are hand-made from reclaimed wood and feature duck down comforters and pillows and 100% cotton sheets. Fair trade tea and coffee and organic cookies are available in the rooms. Moss Grove serves a Mediterranean buffet breakfast using organic, fair trade and local produce. Free Wi-Fi and free on-site parking are available. In Grassmere village center, just over 550 yards from Grassmere Lake, Moss Grove Organic Hotel is in the heart of the Lake District. The hotel is a 10 minute drive from Thirlmere or Lake Windermere. The greeting at reception was fantastic, and the room we had was fabulous, with a wonderful spa bath. The breakfast that the hotel serves was wonderful, with plenty of fresh and quality food on offer. The only criticism is the price for the room - it is probably about 15% overpriced, but is such a wonderful place and location it is worth staying here.

Large room, comfortable bed, white linen, excellent pillows, nice staff Heating was on thus hotel was incredibly hot. This is a comtemporay modern hotel that had wow factor 5 years ago, it requires updating now to justify the full price tag, examples include, carpet looking tired, tv not state of the art, no toiletries/ dressing gown. Ok for the discounted rate that we secured. Definitely not worth full rate charged. Have stayed here previously when the hotel was in its first year and felt that the rate then justifiable. Feel that the hotel needs to raise its game in order not to become run of mill.

Strong point: Its location in a lovely part of Cumbria Provision of an interesting self-serve breakfast. Relatively small room considering the cost of an upgrade. No additional wc facilities outside of the room. Trendy glass door to the bathroom that did not fit and therefore did not provide privacy.

Fabulous weekend at hotel Immaculate room and bathroom Comfortable lounge dining room, with option to have private table or join other residents at large dining table Lovely breakfasts with varied choice of organic food. Would be nice to add choice of eggs and bacon to menu (cold sliced ham and boiled eggs were available) Would have liked a door on bathroom in 7!!!

The breakfast, the king size bed, the balcony, and the breakfast room. No bath robes, not a big enough tv, no full english on offer, and no place to get dressed ie, a dressing table with good lighting. And also not a big enough bath.

The room was beautiful. We really liked the furniture and whole design of it. We also liked th atmosphere of the hotel and the buffet breakfast. It was an interesting and individual place to visit. We would definitely stay there again. On Saturday after we got back from our walk there was no hot water - it was only warm. I know this may seem a bit picky but we would expect to have hot water in a hotel at this price. We spoke to the man on reception and he said he'd only just discovered the problem with the boiler on coming in that evening and that he realised it had not been working properly for a couple of hours. I would expect a problem like that to be sorted more quickly in a busy hotel like that.

Helpful staff , large bathroom , Very clean and comfortable , they also offered wide range of DVDs for free , the place is quite for those who wanna just relax and stay away from the city Our room was in the third floor , no lifts available , I don't know how they rate cottages but for me this is like 3 star hotel .I didn't like the location, the lake was quite far .

The Welcome when we arrived was very inviting, the room itself was even more luxurious than imagined. nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very different, but equally as delicious as 'the normal' cooked breakfast. Most definetely would return as soon as possible. Wonderful stay.

standard of room, particularly as it was for one person. I am used to paying more for a pokey boxroom and a bathroom you couldn't swing a cat in. The room was large extremely well decorated and furnished. Lots of extras included. Bathroom had a spa bath and a seperate and large shower.I even had a view from the windows (and not of the bins) Exellent buffet breakfast

Location is perfect if you like Grasmere! The hotel is very nice, the rooms are huge and we were in the Superior Suite. King Size bed (which you need to climb onto!) French doors, onto a balcony....all very romantic and comfortable. Bathroom looks nice and is very clean. Breakfast was fantastic. Organic and all locally sourced. The Hotel struggles with hot water. This was mentioned to us from someone who stayed in 2009. We thought we'd give it a go anyway. The water pressure is very low and we had to endure a lukewarm shower. The Manager gave us a 30% refund. (we would've preferred a hot shower!)

The area is amazing if you have not been go. This is not a Hotel but a very nice Bed and Breakfast, very good it might be but if you are wanting a hotel experience then this is not for you, Breakfast is buffet and you have to sit around one table or around the Lounge on chairs. If you like B & B then this is fine but its an expensive B & B. There is no one in the B & B past 8pm so if you need anything there is no one around saying all that we had a great time and enjoyed our stay.

The reception on arrival was friendly and informative, We stayed in one of their executive rooms which was fantastic. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast experience, it was very relaxing browsing a fine selection of cereals, meats, cheese and jams etc then enjoying them in the large dining room

The spa bath was really lovely and the superior bedroom we had was superb. The Mediterranean breakfast was second to none as it was clear that they made a big effort to ensure that everything was organic and very healthy. My husband and I were so pleased about spending our wedding anniversary day at the moss groove. It was so quite and looked like a romantic getaway. We care about the environment and its nice to see an hotel that clearly propagates this cause. The person we met at the reception was really helpful and he gave us information about walks around grasmere. No lifts

Lovely breakfast, simplicity, relaxing, nothing excessive but everything done well. Wardrobe space was limited so a hook on the bathroom door for a robe and one by the door for outer coats would have been useful.

Perfect location, excellent standard of rooms, spa bath was great and we ordered champagne on arrival which was excellent. Staff were very helpful and friendly, we know the area quite well but if we hadn't they had plenty of local info on hand. Perfect couple of nights and zero complaints.

This hotel is excellent without being pretentious. Very clean, spacious bedroom and bathroom, tastefully decorated and furnished. Large comfortable bed and excellent bedding. Particularly liked the relaxed arrangements for breakfast, being able to select and take to room or lounge area. Good choice of healthy options. The fact that refurbishment materials were ecologically sourced enhanced our experience. Ideally situated in the centre of the village. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. No complaints but we would regard it as a 5 star B&B rather than a hotel - because of it's lack of facilities, such as a bar or restaurant etc. This did not detract from our enjoyable stay however. Would certainly return.

“As soon as we entered Heidi's Lodge, we knew we would enjoy our stay there. It was welcoming and cosy and the staff were very friendly but not intrusive. We were in Room 4 which was very pretty and quaint. We did have to remember to bend down, so as not to bang our heads on the beams as we are both quite tall. There was a little balcony with a lovely view of the hills. The bathroom was spacious and had under floor heating and a splash screen television which was a novelty. We will stay there again and I recommend it.” Kay, Pennington, Ulverston |
