We stay at the Mount Sorrel as I have alot of relatives in Barry, if your lucky enough as we were to have a front facing room it gives you lovely views across the sea to Western. Staff a always pleasant, food is always good and hot. Your only a 5minute walk from Railway Station, which enables you to go into cardiff which has become a great city. The car park being so steep makes it quite hard to park but then there is always parking on the main road.

There was nothing about this hotel that I liked. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and the staff seemed to be rushing us through our book in. We had booked a double room and found that we had a twin bedded room. A wedding was in progress when we arrived however reception made no comment and placed us in a room above the function room. The radiator valve in the bedroom had been broken and the heating could not be adjusted, the room was extremely hot we had to sleep with the windows open, making the noise from the wedding even more intense. The bathroom had a overhead shower over the bath with no mat or handrail for safety use which I find extremely dangerous. There were dirty marks on the bathroom flooring. The music stayed going until 1.30am and having travelled from London we were exhausted and could not get to sleep. When the function finally finished guests could be heard returning to their rooms loudly. Following morning we went to the dining room for breakfast we were not greeted by any staff and when I could not find a table for two went back to the staff to ask if ok to sit at table for four, I received a grunted remark. We sat down and had to find out ourselves were cereal etc was located, I asked the waiter standing around for a bowl he did not seem to know where they were, he went off to find them when he moved I could see they were behind the reception. After 30 mins of waiting and not being offered any toast or tea, a couple beside us received their breakfast & made the comment this was not worth waiting one hour for. On the next evening we returned to the bar for a nite cap, bar staff were covering the bar and reception creating a delay in drinks being issued. Bar staff advised that there was no draught lager due to a busy wedding the previous evening. When we returned to our room a dirty glass had been left in the hallway from the previous night. Also our rooms had not being serviced and we did not have any clean towels. I will never return to this this hotel or the area until further hotels are built.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mount Sorrel because it was a really warm and inviting place to stay, the staff were a real pleasure to speak with and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent, the breakfast in particular. The swimming pool was nice and warm and although we did not use the gym this time, it looked very good and next time we stay I will make sure I use the treadmill. The prices in the bar were very good, and the Hotel itself was spotless. So we look forward to our return visit.

We went to Barry to see the locations of Gavin & Stacey, the hotel was clean & in a good location (if you don't like hills then walking is out!) The staff were excellent & the rooms large & basic but clean. The breakfast was outstanding (buffet) For a short stopover it was well worth the money. No complaints that I could find.

I was there twice last year. I like the swimming pool and the Sauna(though it did not work this time!). The location and the staff are nice. It is a shame that the hotel did not belong to Best Western Gold card, otherwise I would have had some freebee. The Sauna was not working and there was one of the reason I chose the hotel. I shall be there in 2 wks' time and hope that it will work then.

it's a traditional hotel with a modern twist. Lovely big rooms, good food and a modern pool and gym. Good location near station and not far from beaches.

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Proximity to railway station and easy to drive to and parking. Room was too hot and no control on the radiator. Couldn't get the shower to work properly. Rooms were a bit 'tired' Breakfast was ok but only that, not memorable. Would have liked to know that I could've ordered a poached egg instead of a very solid fried egg which I had to leave.

Supposed family room extremely small. Bathroom tiny as was the leaking shower. In our 2 weeks of travel this was the highest price we paid and by far the worst accommodation - should certainly not have 3 star rating.

We received a warm welcome, and all the staff were helpful. Our first room was clean and cosy, if on the small side, but adequate for a weekend break. We were moved the next night, room was clean and very spacious. A good breakfast was provided and we ate in the restaurant one evening, which was good. Thank you Mount Sorrel we had a lovely stay in Barry. My partner got an unfortunate scold from the heated towel rail in the bathroom of the first room, there is no sign warning it could be hot, so beware.

Comfortable bed. Good black out curtains. Reasonably quiet.Hairdryer. Tea/Coffee facilities wall lighting in room blew and so limited light availability. Would have liked bedside lamo and also more TV channels to choose from. Non- residents can't be served in bar after certain time which wasn't too good either. Room was a bit dark due to its position in building

The only good thing i can say is it was on Barry Island - otherwise Nothing We Didnt like anything about this hotel - seriously Overpriced! I have even written a complaint to best western - Who havent even bothered to reply... So maybe the problems we encounted start at the Top and not just with the hotel. If the staff havent been trained how can you expect anything else !

Staff were friendly Car park is badly designed. Shower in room was awful, not a proper shower which had no power at all and constantly went hot & cold. Tiles in bathroom were black. Room although clean was very basic & over priced. Could not open window in room very wide so it was quite hot.

Very accomodating staff. Radiator in the room was difficult to turn off and most of the night was spent sleeping as if we were in the tropics. TV remote didn't work, shaver light in the bathroom didn't work. Shower very poor.

Bathroom was poor, two bulbs didn't work and it had a sterile 80's feel. Bedroom had a connecting door to another room, we had the plesure of hearing everyword of our neighbours conversation.

Stayed overnight as we were going to Cardiff for a rugby match, good train service near to hotel, very polite & friendly staff, Booked breakfast which was ok, would have been better if they had used quality sausages instead of the nasty cheap catering ones , bar facilities good, didn't use the spa or pool so. Cannot comment on that , parking a bit limited but no problem during our stay, close to town centre etc & plus for the room was sky sports channels on tv in room , overall a very pleasant stay
