The location and the staff were lovely
The feeling of the place was more £30 Youth Hostel than £80 B&B with a shared kitchen and lounge and a trek across the courtyard to find breakfast. We had to jam some card into the sash window to stop it rattling and the over sink light didn't work. Yes it was pretty basic for £80
Staff were very friendly and welcoming, facilities were very good especially the fully equipped kitchen, excellent location for walking, the castle tour is very informative.
Two single beds pushed together as a double bed.
Proximity to castle, owls grounds and s.c. kitchen
No B&B signs so struggled to find it + didn't realise lady on reception would go at 5.15 + No indication there was a self catering kitchenwhich is essential to know if on foot
Spacious, clean accommodation. Excellent breakfast. Freedom to roam the grounds. The owl collection. Handy location for the 'other Lake District'. Additional facilities - well equipped kitchen which could be used as self-catering.
Not being able to stay longer.
Superb grounds and reduced price access to castle. Good self catering facilities available. Excellent breakfast.
Excellent customer service, superb breakfasts and goodlocation
The location was superb, set in the impressive grounds of a lovely castle. The Owl Sanctuary was delightful, especially for owl lovers like us. The shared kitchen and lounge facilities were excellent. The staff were very friendly.
The mattress in our room was uncomfortable, though the one in our daughter's room was fine. We pointed this out to the receptionist and she took it seriously, which is a good sign.
Staff great, location really nice
Small room and the 'pine' is a bit dated
A night away without the bar. Bed & breakfast of good quality set in coyntry house that made you feel like lord of the manor.
We opted for bed and breakfast but there was an excellent kitchen if you wanted to make meals. Someone was always available to sort out any queries. The surrounding landscape was beautiful and we loved the fact that we could walk in the grounds when the castle was closed to the public. The owl sanctuary was a bonus and the talk given was informative and interesting. Unlike a lot of places , we found the prices in the shop and the cafe very reasonable.
Fantastic location and great facilities on site which interested all the family from 6yrs to 70; friendly staff; comfortable accommodation; great breakfast.
loocation ,sky network,kitchen facilities
the room required a bit of freah paint
The location is fantastic - right on the Castle grounds, with access outside of public hours. The service from all the staff was excellent, and reception staff were particularly helpful and accommodating.
Location facilities dog friendly all the staff seemed happy doing their jobs nothing was too much trouble On site parking close to the beach and Lake District
The views, location and room were fantastic. Staff were helpful and we had full reign of the grounds. A lovely walk into Ravenglass in the countryside. Breakfast delicious and a wide selection of foods.
The bell chime on the castle itself rang out every hour to the chime of the time i.e. 12 dings for midnight, hence a lack of sleep as I heard every one of them up to 8am in the morning! Okay if you're a heavy sleeper!
This is one of the most unspoilt parts of Britain, and Muncaster castle is a real gem of a privately owned stately home. We loved the gardens and woods, the access to unspoilt coastline and the Lake District Fells, and the World Owl Trust aviaries. Although the rooms were fairly basic, the use of a shared kitchen made this excellent value for money, and the breakfasts were really good too! Our dog was made really welcome and for an extra £2 guests can go round the castle with a wealth of family stories narrated by members of the family. The owner typically comes and chats to guests over breakfast (although you may not take him for the owner!)
Minor thing for us but having a shower over the bath so you could stand up would be nice1
Staff were very welcoming and helpful, excellent breakfast, enjoyed going round the castle, great views, owl display informative and comical.
So helpful and accommodating! Lovely family room! Would definitely stay again!
No mobile service but not the end of the world they had wifi
Comfortable room, generous breakfast, superb surroundings
Room, location, area, grounds, owls, lady in owl gift shop & ladies in reception area
Lift tempermental; two of the catering staff need some training in people skills
Loved the nature walks around the grounds. The Staff were friendly. The rooms were clean and tidy. Lovely to have access to a kitchen where were able to have our dinner.
the coachmans quarters are located directly in a castle with access to the gardens and the great surroundings. The breakfast was great!
rather small room
Staff Breakfast Cafe on site Use of kitchen facilities Owl sanctuary Bath The setting was stunning with access to grounds
The on site facilities were excellent, and the loan of an electric scooter made all the difference for us. This was volunteered the evening before, and was waiting for us outside the office the next morning. It was a rather nice one too, a definite step up from those in the supermarkets, for which it must be said we have always been very grateful. The surrounding attractions were also excellent: for example the Ravenglass and Eskdale locos were older than myself, and in much better condition! The owls were a major attraction for us. There were some features we did not get time to see, but next time........ The paintings on offer included some that were very much to our taste.
For us the bed was a bit hard, and we prefer a single double to two singles pushed together, if that does not confuse you. But we are in the realms of individual preferences here rather than absolute rights and wrongs.
