We stayed at the Mytton and Mermaid as part of a weekend break. Set back from a rather busy road, the hotel gardens to the front of the buidling and River Severn running to the side of the hotel made it a lovely setting to relax with a drink before our fantastic dinner. Attingham Park Estate (National Trust) is directly opposite the hotel with acres of lovely park land to walk off the pounds gained from the great food! Staff were all really helpful and friendly. We'd definitely stay at the Mytton and Mermaid again.

Enjoyed the breakfast. We had a problem in the booking - confirmed as double room but then told we had to accept a single, this was agreed at the singles rate and told an extra bed would be put in room, this in fact was a mattress on the floor! very stiff back the next morning! Suggest that the internet booking system is in line with the actual booking to avoid others being disappointed. as we were attending a family function we were limited to chose but in hind site would have not accepted the single plus a mattress option.

The things we loved. First impressions - Beautiful building, gardens and views. The garden, lawns and steps leading down to the river Servern with the Antique style metal garden furniture, very romantic and relaxing - "special place." Loved the deco throught out the hotel. A good mix of area's for eating, drinking and relaxing. From teak traditional furniture on the front lawns, to modern Rattan furniture in the under cover court yard. The Bar area with it's large fireplace is fitted out with secondhand and antique furniture, lovely comfy sofa's, tables decorated with pots of rosemary and lavender. The ideal place for eating and drinking. The resturant with it's clever room dividers is a lovely setting to enjoy the delicious meals and fine wines. The staff cannot be faulted, polite, efficient, happy and lots of smiles GREAT SERVICE. Every where very clean. Love our stay What we didn't like; That I have put on 1/2 a stone in two days. Would be nice to have more cushions available to seat on in the resturant and softer pillows in the bedrooms.

Hotel staff very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is more or less "full service", which is a nice change from the standard heaps one finds in the usual buffet style. The cook even tried (unsuccessfully) to prepare two fried eggs "easy over". Very "quaint", which is a euphemism for "you crash into things". The water pressure for showering was reminiscent of that in a caravan, without hook-ups. Pitiful. The crashing into things more or less cannot be helped, with the exception of the rather annoying glass shelf directly over the sink, making brushing ones teeth a potentially painful experience. Thankfully I manage to not break the thing with my head. There's no excuse for the low water pressure however. Assuming that 220 volt power is available at "the Mains", an adequate water pump should solve the problem. Someone decided to install the cheaper version is all.

Reception was very good - very friendly and very efficient. Room was more than adequate with a good bathroom and plenty of guest "freebies". The age of the building was obvious in the uneven floors but not a problem. The food in the a la carte restaurant was exceptionally good and the service was good. Very busy but staff coped well. Obviously very popular with local people as the bar and the restaurant were full. Very pretty location and directly opposite to Attingham Park which was handy. We were celebrating a very significant anniversary and the hotel gave us complimentary glasses of champagne - a really nice touch. A lot of stairs and corridors to negotiate to get to our room which was quite difficult with suitcases. A very bright floodlight shone directly into our room for most of the night. Blackout curtains would solve this. Breakfast was a bit of a let-down after the wonderful dinner the previous night. Choice of self-serve cereals etc was limited and the service didn't match the night before. Each cooked dish is prepared fresh to order so was quite a time but not a problem. A pot of coffee / tea per table would have been nice instead of having to wait for the waiter to bring refills.
