This 400 year-old inn featured in The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens. It features a historic bar and restaurant, and classic rooms with leather headboards.
Score from 270 reviews Very good
This establishment is extremely good and pleasing to the guest. The accommodation is of a high standard, nice surroundings, obviously being close to the canal and the food is very good
Problems connecting with the wifi in the room. Bed was too soft
Good service at breakfast
We arrived just before midday on a Sunday and although we new we were a little early we were not very welcomed. We even tried to book in twice. On returning back to the Narrow Boat at 11.00 pm that evening it was all locked up and in darkness as knocking on the door could not stir anyone we googled the phone number to call them and eventually they answered and we had a good nights sleep.
We loved the atmosphere of the pub, friendliness of staff and location.
A little disappointed that the rooms were not in the main building. Also food quite pricey and portions not large, though breakfast was good value and well presented.
Staff friendly and attentive Good Food Good Value for Money Lovely choice of breakfast Nice location right on the canal Lovely clean rooms
Could hear traffic noise from room during peak tmes but otherwise OK Staff need name badges so that they can be praised as individuals.
Bed and shower clean and comfortable. Canal side rooms gave it a holiday feel. Nice quality food.
Breakfast service extremely slow, they weren't busy there was just the two of us! Breakfast menu confusing with limited choice individual priced even though you were paying for an inclusive rate.
Food was good Some staff were attentive but not all Breakfast was good Room clean and tidy
Train noise Road noise Some staff were more interested in chatting to one another rather than servicing customer. Wifi could have been better especially in rooms.
Lovely pub/restaurant with nice chalet accommodation and with an excellent location by the canal. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good.
Shower only, I prefer a long 'soak' in a bath when at a hotel.
Own chalet with car parking. Nice area being on the Union canal with good views from the terrace and gardens. relaxing weekend with friendly staff and excellent food.
Main road could be a bit noisy when having excellent breakfast.
good food great gardens
Good choice of menu in the restaurant; food was delicious; as was breakfast. The room was comfortable with lovely fluffy white towels. Excellent walks along the tow path and across the fields to Flore.
There was an unpleasant smell in the garden area and around the rooms...think it was the overflow chamber from the septic tank.
The walk along the canal and excellent food...
Very comfortable beds Good food Friendly staff Beautiful views Fantastic shower room.
The food that we had was excellent. The wine list extensive and the beer well kept. We enjoyed being able to sit outside for drinks and food. The rooms are well placed away from the road.
It is a bit noisy because it is by a busy road. The biggest problem was the service around our evening meals. We ordered a la carte dishes which were excellent when they arrived. We waited a long time for starters and even longer for our mains (the kitchen did not start to prep them until after we had finished our starters!). Unfortunately we think that you either need to choose what sort of food that you serve (pub or gourmet) or increase your kitchen staff considerably.
We went for dinner, food was very good. Manager did book us somewhere else to stay down the road, so at least we had somewhere to go, and didn't charge us for food at dinner so we only paid for wine. Nice gesture.
We got ousted because they had an 'older' automated booking for the same night...given I had emailed them in the week before to confirm our stay, I don't know why they didn't notice the issue until the night before. We went for dinner anyway: food very good but service very slow and erratic; gave up on dessert as they just left us sitting there after main course; Silverstone is very busy weekend and clearly not enough staff to cater for that. Lovely location and pleasant staff but was very disappointed with last minute mix-up.
Location by the canal. Friendly helpful staff. Good food. Plentiful parking.
Location by A5 - busy road. Cleanliness of the accommodation (mucky services). Slow service in restaurant. Several menu choices unavailable.
Very friendly accommodating staff
Nice location. Beautiful canal side views. Clean comfy rooms. Reasonable cost per night.
Couldn't get wifi to work Food tying too hard and over flavoured. Flavours didn't necessary work well together. Staff at breakfast average.
Very friendly staff, great food, pleasant location
Excellent food and food service, friendly welcome, 'no fuss' room and lovely canal side garden deck.
Shame I had to leave in the morning
Newish, quiet rooms away from the pub itself. Excellent cooked breakfast. Easy parking. Tranquil location by the canal (although some noise from the A5 road ).
Small TV. No view from the room (ours was "The Barge" end room which backed on to a grassy bank).
Our room was very nice and clean and quiet. Food was excellent and I would recommend this to friends.
Our friends had to relocate to Premier Inn because their room was flooded. This information was given the day before the booking date. Staff were not aware of this when we arrived. Our invoice was still going to charge us for 2 rooms until this was pointed out. We had no apology on arrival. Our friends were given a free breakfast at the Narrowboat but we all had to squash round a small round table. This was to be a celebration for my husband's 60th birthday but one of our friends could not have a celebratory drink because they had to drive back to the Premier Inn down the road.
location, the hotel, the food,( the lamb pie) the setting. the friendliness
Pricey for a long weekend.
Absolutely lovely setting, modern, clean rooms, first class food.
No wifi in rooms
Made to feel welcome. able to book in early. staff friendly and helpful. good breakfast. comfy bed lovely location, only a few rooms. evening meals excellent. the lamb pie was the best pie I have ever tasted
