Lovely location, nice gym and small pool and enjoyable breakfast, but maybe a bit overpriced.
Staff were pleasent but looked totally miserable, some not particularly helpful.
Poor shower and no "grab" handles for the elderly!
Beautiful building and grounds, staff pleasant and helpful.loved the wood panelling and log fires. breakfast excellent . will visit again.
My husband thought the portion size of the evening meal was small, although he enjoyed it.
Ambiance, log fires, bar and dining room. Staff very helpful. Food excellent
Twin beds too narrow.
I could not fault any of the staff who could not do enough to help, this was at reception, bar and dining room. I also left my Kindle behind and a quick telephone call solved this problem. I paid postage and it was forwarded on. HONESTY is priceless. The Bar Meal was excellent try the Garlic Bread, steak pie, large portion of what appeared to be home made pie pastry melted and plenty of meat to be found. Guinness was well priced, cold and travelled well. Barman was a character. Location was great overlooking the sea and gardens. Full English Breakfast was wholesome and tasty. Plenty of hot water and tea making facilities in room. Old fashioned manners clearly on display by staff which again appeared genuine.
The hotel appeared to be tired and distressed in terms of decor. A great deal of potential there and some decorating was taking place. The first impression of hotel on approach was excellent but let down on approach to bedrooms. Wallpaper in bedroom 10 was ripped and scuffed, carpet stained. I was only there one night so saw past it which allowed me to enjoy the good parts. If staying more than this would not have been happy with room.
The views & location
The bread served with the evening meal was awful
The cost of food
Our bedrooms were on the small side and were looking a bit tired.
Only one easy chair in bedroom. No table so it would have been hard to have room service.
The spectacular building. The beautiful oak panelling. The staircases. Excellent gardens. Quiet. Good sleep.
It was shabby, poor service. Staff at reception lacked interpersonal skills (when they were there.) Uncomfortable chairs in the lounge areas. Uninspiring food, chips smelt as though they'd been cooked in stale oil. "All fur coat and no knickers" as the saying goes.
Staff were very attentive without being overbearing!
The style of the hotel. Its informal atmosphere. The reasonably priced drinks. The excellent menu choice for breakfast. The health spa
The rather musty smell of the bathroom. Room 5 We would like to have had dinner at the hotel but it was rather beyond our budget.
I liked the decor and the staff was very helpful and polite.
The woman in charge at breakfast, she was very rude.
Lifts as my husband is disabled
Friendly and attentive staff, great location, very good food, good leisure facilities.
The water flow from the shower was very weak.
accommodation & staff very good.
Hotel a bit too quite!
Genuine welcome at reception, lovely views and architecture,
Bed sheet had what appeared to be a cigarette burn mark on it, bedroom wallpaper and bed sheets looked dated.
The staff were wonderful they couldn't do enough for us.
The room we had was quite small in relation to the price paid.
Impressive old-style hotel in an excellent situation with idyllic views and good friendly service
Some of the soft furnishings looked a little tired
Beautiful location, very friendly and helpful staff. Stunning view of Morecambe Bay from bedroom.
Tired décor in bedroom.
Fabulous location, close to railway station, ornamental duck pond, promenade and local shops.
Location - overlooking Morecambe Bay and less than 10 minutes walk from town centre and half an hour to Lake Windermere by car. Large room with good-sized flat screen TV. Breakfast food very good - did not take dinner. Staff all helpful. Impressive 19th century building set in large gardens.
Bedroom carpet threadbare in parts. No safe or fridge.
Efficient and helpful staff. Comfortable room. Relaxing atmosphere. Excellent breakfast and Michelin quality dinner. What more could I say ........ would have stayed longer if we had the time!
There were no negatives worth mentioning.
