Fabulous place if you have children/baby and want to relax and take a step away from it all.
We arrived after a long day and the staff made a special effort to make us welcome and allow us to relax.
No bar area reception not grand enough
The food was wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The whole place had a feel of calmness. The views from the hotel room were great and hearing the stags calling at night made it more special.
Comfortable bed. Excellent waiter, Ben. Spa facilities. Mostly dog friendly.
Large dead fly and cob webs in bathroom. No shower curtain which meant water sprayed over bathroom including toilet roll. Toilet flush inadequate. Bacon served at breakfast too dry/burned to eat. Starter served and chorizo not peeled skin on. No area where you can eat at a table inside with the dog. Had to hunt for dog mess bin which was located in a children's play area. All of this was reported with no feedback. Not good enough when paying premium price.
The room was great and quiet; bed was extremely comfortable. staff were very accommodating and helpful. swimming pool steam room and sauna were great and it was good to have some child free times. Gym was small but well equipped. really nice to have a ready supply of iced water and air conditioning was good. Provision of music on cds was a big plus too. spa staff were happy for us to use their seating area, even when they closed early for maintenance, so we could read in peace, away from the young children - very friendly staff.
Evening meal menu was restricted; we had thought that the Forest menu would be available, but found on arrival that this was only available at lunchtime. service at breakfast was poor; on the first day we were forgotten twice and had to wait nearly an hour for our hot food order to be taken and for the food to eventually arrive. Poached eggs tasted of vinegar and fried eggs were obviously fried in oil rather than butter/marg. Breakfast choice was good for both hot and cold items.
Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff
Sloping ceilings in bedroom and bathroom so sore heads.
Very friendly, courteous staff especially the restauarant staff where nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent. A nice touch on day one was when a fan appeared in our room which was very welcoming as the weather was very hot.Lovely setting, location. overall a lovely two days.
some of the decking around the Hot tub area was loose and potential trip hazard. suggest that if any spa treatments are required then book these in advance of your stay as a little inflexible to change.
Location is amazing have stayed here before, garden needs a good tidy and toys put away more often .foods was fantastic ,room to hot .
Very child friendly, good food.
Was not able to get a treatment for either my wife and I at the spa which we had planned on doing.
Very relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Spa facilities were great and food very good - both breakfast and dinner.
Location and indoor pool
First room (Classic). Forest room was much better. Food, especially the cooked breakfast and the poor service at breakfast. Had to wait 15 mins for a dish. First time I have seen a 2" long Cumbernauld sausage. Poor information from the spa staff. Badly maintained hotel with things that could have been easily sorted.
comfortable bed, nice spa, the character of the old building ...
this is a 'child friendly' hotel and I did not know, it was full of parents that were happy for all to hear their delightfully loud trolls ... my peaceful afternoon was ruined by kids playing or should i say screaming and banging ... the excellent restaurant tranquility was again ruined by listening to children at the dining table next door ... my afternoon was spoiled by listening to work men / staff around the pool area that was closed (i was not informed of this) ... my rest before dinner was disturbed by the gentle bass from the music player in the dining room below ... my shower was difficult as their was no shower curtain (rectified quickly by staff) ... a peaceful sleep was bought to an abrupt halt by workmen talking loudly in the garden below and then followed by shouting children with proud parents ... their was no air conditioning and the quilt thick, a sheet would have helped as would a window that would open if not for the ruddy child friendly locks! ... oh my god!! this hotel could easily be a 4 star, 5 star but with kids ruling the environment I was happy to escape and check out ... I will never return ... I went with the desire to chill but left with a headache ... if you love kids and don't want peace and quiet then you will love it!
Friendly staff. Dog friendly.
The "classic country" room was small, considering the price, with antiquated furniture including a broken chair (replaced after complaint). The hand wash basin stopper never worked during our 3 night stay despite our comments. The lighting was feeble. On arrival we were invited to reserve a table for dinner. We asked to see the menu and one was eventually produced. On the strength of it we made the reservation. However a different menu was produced in the dining room at 7.15 (we were the second couple in) and we were told that 2 of the 6 starters were already off! There Is no bar (but drinks are served to order in the lounge and dining room) and no lift. If you do not have children with you and/or do not intend to use the spa facilities, this is not the hotel for you. John. Guildford
Lovely hotel and facilities
Late booking in and early booking out
Avoid if you are looking for a quite weekend... Full of children!!

Really friendly staff, very child friendly, superb food.
Beautiful surroundings, great spa
Staff lacked professionalism Some parts seem dated/not looked after
Wonderful setting, very friendly staff & gorgeous room. Very good menu & wine list
There was no mention in your description that it is totally geared to young children & babies - which we were not expecting & would not have chosen this hotel had we have known.
The friendly staff Excellent food The fact that dogs and children are both welcome and well catered for.
general location and staff were good The dining facilities and food were good even if the menu was slightly mystifying
Could have had a better wine list. It does not have a lift and as we were on top floor this was on occasion a trial.
