Location was good, we had a weekend break & the stroll to town was pleasant. The room was old but clean, bathroom was fine , clean & bright, nice tiles. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable, as springs felt through. Breakfast was very good, the best assortment of fruit I've had in a long time ,nice plump prunes instead of dried up ones, all very good.Lounge and bar very nice & friendly staff. Receptionists very helpful too. I have already recommended it to friends. We will come again if the price is right!!Thank you. Only that things got a bit more worn the higher upstairs you got. And the bed.

Very friendly staff. Good breakfast, most enjoyable. Lovley views from the room. The room was not as clean as perhaps it should have been and the matress on the bed could do with renewing, very soft in the middle. A little disappointing.

I found the surroundings very pleasant. Breakfasts were of a good standard. Parking facilities were good. Customer service was poor. My wife stood on a paving slab outside our room which broke and she dropped about 1 foot onto pipework below. She rang reception to report this immediately. All they said was they would send someone to repair the hole. They didn't ask my wife if she was ok - which she wasn't as she had jarred her hip and twisted her ankle. Not once during the stay did anyone speak to my wife about the incident. If it had been an elderly person who fell through this broken slab, they could have sustained far worse injuries. We also noted that the broken slab was placed back over the hole and this is how it remained for the following three days we were there.

the only thing i like was the check in staff firstly the £100 per night rooms were worse than a skegness b&b tucked away in the furthest part of the hotel. the rooms were dirty and smelt of damp. we were moved to the front of the hotel where we found the last occupants socks and pants left in the drawer. hairs in the sink and enough dust and mites under the bed to put the dirtiest hotel in britain to shame. whilst the reception staff could not do enough to help the duty manager, possibly turkish was very arrogant in his manner when speaking to my partner. the hotel is like faulty towers none of the floors feel safe everything is bent bowed or uneven.

the location of the hotel is the only thing it has going for it The hotel is very dated and tatty and in need of a makeover, it had no sound proofing at all and the bathroom was not not to the expectations you would expect for the price we paid

The manager was very understanding when we made a complaint The hotel is very old and in need of modernisation, the mattress was worn to the point of collaspe, the food was not good and not as advertised - they had no beef salad and would not offer chicken as an alternative - however the general manager accomodated this the next day by giving us our food and drink for free - he and the receptionist were lovely and said the hotel has character!

Nice location, close enough to walk in to Matlock, lovely to be able to enjoy the spa, if the pool had been open would have been great to go swimming. Nice relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the place.

Comfortable, good service and in a good location just outside Matlock Bath (5 min walk to shops/restaurants) and a good base for Peaks Walks with or without a car. We travelled there by train which was not an issue at all. Good breakfast and bar. There is a pool too. Room huge, good tv and dvd in room and pleasant bathroom Room decor was a little tired but the room was huge and comfortable

Dirty shelves in cupboard in room. Carpets in corridors dirty No one at reception on arrival (waited 10 minutes and then knocked on a door marked 'private' to get receptionist to come to the desk) Room was on a pronounced slope ! My bottle of water slid off the table. No reasonable desk space to work (I.E. the work desk accommodated the telly)

Location The first room we were offered in a 60's extension to the main hotel had no heating on when we arrived and was cold and smelled musty and damp. We asked to be moved to a better room. If the hotel was full and had to stay in the original room we would have been thoroughly unhappy and depressed

Big clean bath. Relaxing lounge area. Quiet bedroom. Nice, very clean breakast table and good breakfast. Attentive staff. This hotel is the most run down I have ever stopped in. The building appears to lean in all directions, if the windows, door frames, squeaky floor boards and door hinges are anything to go by. The carpets are delapidated and covered in water stains and wall paper is hanging off., Generally. The geo-thermaly heated plunge pool is a joke, its freezing, as are the changing facilities. I'm not sure that the sauna conforms to current building legislation either. Its the stuff of nightmares and would make a good setting for a horror film. But, even after all this, my wife and I had a comfortable stay.

The close location to Matlock Bath. On entering our room, we checked it for cleanliness as we always do before unpacking. We were disgusted to find soiled bed sheets on our bed. It was some bodily fluid that the previous occupants had left. Disgusting !!! We complained on our way out and the sheets were changed before our return that evening. No free drink or some other token was offered to help smooth over our disgust, just the usual ..... oh sorry about that ! Very poor ! The floorboards in our room squeeked so badly when we walked around in there that it was embarrasing to move. The Hotel looks like it is being run on a shoestring budget. Beause of this reason, the price for staying there needs to be much lower. We would stay again but only because of the location and a reduction in the prices.

The hotel is in picturesque grounds and is in an ideal location for Matlock Bath. Check in and check out was quick and efficient. Hotel bedroom areas could do with redecoration. Breakfast was an additional cost and was expensive compared with hotels of a similar standard.
