The setting and location; the rooms in the main hotel are perfectly acceptable (though I would not have wanted to be in the annex), and the breakfast was good. The service and food for our Saturday night meal in the restaurant was frankly awful - though they did give a complimentary bottle of wine in recompense as they knew they had not performed. It is such a shame -it could be a really good hotel. The swimming pool was closed; the indoor spa pool (which was the main reson for going there) was so cold it was unuseable; the tennis court needs maintenance and although set in ample land, the fences are set so close to the court boundary it is dangerous to play on it. |

Leaving! Broken lights in room, Sauna not working, Swimming pool not filled( even thought it was supposed to be in April), ragged carpet on stairs (trip hazard), being put in a 60s annexe at the back even though it was the history of the building that was promoted, "couldn't care less" staff |

It was adequate for what we wanted which was to visit places around Derby and Cromford. The room was okay with adequate facilities, clean and tidy. This was a replacement as the first room we were given was too cold, but we were given a replacement room with a heater although the hotel was very full. The first room we were offered was very cold as the heating system had broken down but we had to ask for a heater as one was not supplied. The manager was present when we complained and I do not think we would have been given a replacement room or heater had he not been there. |

Staff were pleasant and helpful. Whilst at one time the building was very grand it is now pretty scruffy and in severe need of renovation! The plunge pool was out of service which was disappointing. However by far the worst aspect of our stay was the poor food served in the restaurant. The restaurant is tatty, without atmosphere, serving poor overpriced food with consciences staff. |

Location to Matlock was close, good food , bar seemed expensive. Nice helpful staff. On returning to room no lights in bathroom and main room light did not work, however bill was reduced to our satisfaction. |

The location is very good for walking, driving & sight seeing. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. A good hotel for a nice weekend break. |

Friendly staff, good sized portions of reasonable food on set menu. Someone walking round at 3.30 in the morning - presumably security checks- but very disconcerting when it sounds like they're going to come in the room! |

Convenient for exploring nearby counyry houses and countryside impression was that the hotel was running on a tight budget -no gin in bar on first night due to a large party at weekend we were told decor and paintwork somewhat jaded - clearly the hotel had seen better times. |

The room was nice, the food was very good, good kind friendly service. No heating on in the hotel although there was an electric heater in the room. Corridors were cold. would have been better having music on in the dining room instead of silence and music would be nice in the bar instead of the tv. |

the room was very comfortable,and clean, the food was very good,and the staff were very courteous to us.it was very enjoyable. we did get excessive noise from adjoining room,which was not the fault of the hotel but the other residents.some background music in the restaurant would have been nice. |
