The room was nice and well appointed overlooking the river flowing past. The detached restaurant was a nice change from the usual and the views (if you got a good seat) were refreshing. The restaurant staff seemed to lack training. We had made an advance reservation for dinner and were seated at a nice table but soon one of the staff asked us to vacate the table as it was intended for some one else (not a resident like us). At breakfast the next day I saw a few people complaining about delayed service (half hour for eggs?) we didnt have any issues though.

my room was very clean. the wifi did not work at first but then was fixed. However even with strong signal and fast download speed it did not allow Skype calls. This can be for several reasons: VOIP not being given priority in the router; or the ISP is not giving VOIP equal time slots to data traffic.

The breakfast was very good, and the family celebration lunch in the River Bar was excellent Bedroom 7 . There was no view from the bedroom window and the room was very warm. Unable to turn the radiator down. I would book direct in future so that I can discuss the bedrooms. I would have paid a bit more for a view.

I would be hard pressed to say i like the place. I prefer smaller more personalized places, the sort of place that would say 'don't worry that you woke up 10 min late, you can still have breakfast.' One staff member was so rude, no smile, abrupt but fortunately another staff member was the exact opposite, friendly and helpful . Are the walls paper thin? I could hear every word from the neighbor. Woke up late and got refused breakfast.

Picture perfect location at the junction of two rivers. Restaurant with beautiful views across unfenced rivers and weirs. Probably too dangerous for small children so no problems with small children. Everything was too much trouble for the staff who were polite in saying no to every request. Even though staying at hotel could not get anything to eat - Restaurant was fully booked by 6pm arrival and would not serve dinner even though empty. Room service refused to serve as they claimed to be "too busy all evening. Romantic getaway ruined by poor service - indeed no service.

The room The time i spent eating. 45 mins for a starter is too much when you're on your own and you just want to relax in your room

NIce building. Good room. Nice area. The service in the Restaurant was abominable: we had to wait more than one hour before our first dish arrived. And we had no hot water in our bathroom!

Countryside setting in an almost town-centre location. The River Bar was surprisingly under-developed/under-utilised.

The Hot tub in the room we stayed in. Amazing! The rooms above were too close for a room with a hot tub, as me and my partner were in it all night and we had complaints.

Walking distance to Newbury shopping centre. Quaint town with easy 15 min walk from hotel along a picturesque canal with canal boats. Good selection of high street shops and unique little boutiques and individually owned shops. Hotel situated in easy reach of main road so very easy to find, but once you go down the drive you could be a million miles a way. A great relaxing retreat. Beautiful dining restaurant. Excellent delicious food overlooking a spectacular lake with swans. The staff were fantastic and really helpful and friendly. The all inclusive DB&B and afternoon tea and champagne was excellent value for money. The little gift box of luxury soap, massage oil and bath bomb was a nice touch, as were the homemade cookies. Had one of the best breakfasts I'd ever tasted. They have an excellent chef at Newbury Manor. We really loved our room with the private patio with hot tub. So very relaxing. Wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed in Room 32 which was a private hot tub room. In my opinion it was a tinybit dated for my liking and in need of a bit of attention, but it was spottlessly clean which is more important to me personally. The hot water took forever to come through the taps and shower (5 mins), but to be fair there were cards left in the room stating this and that they were updating the water system. In Room 32 there was a completely sealed door between the dividing wall to Room 34 (strange place for a door) but it might as well have been made of paper. It was so thin you could hear everything going on in the next room.........and I mean EVERYTHING!!! We were woken late evening with the hanky panky going on in the next room, which sounded like they were in the same room! This was the only very BIG negative for us as I was so embarrassed that I could hear every detail of their evening. They would have been mortified I'm sure. We mentioned it to reception in the morning, only to find out that the room had not been booked/occupied that night!!! Hmmm interesting ;o). We did get an apology and they were going to investigate the issue. Apart from this our stay would have been perfect. It was so relaxing. We'll try another hot tub room next time (but not Room's 32 or 34).
