Surrounded by 9 acres of woodland and rivers, the Grade II heritage-listed Newbury Manor Hotel is just a 15 minute walk from the middle of Newbury. It offers an award-winning restaurant and free Wi-Fi. Many bedrooms have balconies overlooking the Kennett and Lambourne rivers, with woodland and water-meadow views. All rooms offer Art Deco style bathrooms, a cable TV and tea and coffee. The River Bar Restaurant is set on an island for waterside dining, serving a menu using local produce. It is surrounded by 2 rivers, and originally housed a blacksmith’s forge. Both rivers are full of fish, while there are deer, otters, and other wildlife that can be spotted in the Manor Hotel’s grounds. Guests can reach Newbury Racecourse and its train station with a 10 minute walk or a 5-minute drive. The M4 highway is 5 minutes away by car, and beautiful Highclere Castle is a 15 minute drive away. There was a problem with the internet booking and I was allowed to book a package that was not available, the staff were really helpful and honoured our booking, to enable us to have a fabulous package for our stay. I had no complaints with the room, however my husband complained about the hard pillows and the lack of tea bags!!

I stayed in an Executive room with balcony, overlooking the river and gardens. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The Restaurant had a beautiful river setting and was situated only a few metres walk from the Reception. Maintenance of the fixtures and fittings in room needed major repair. The curtain had a massive rip from top to bottom & the Roman blind on side window had no cord (so had to be twisted and held back by an elastic band) Also drawer hinges broken & bathroom door hook hanging off. Requested bacon, tomatoes & mushrooms for Breakfast, received 2 rashes of bacon, but only half a tomato & half a small mushroom, had to request the other 2 halves!! (Have already e-mailed the GM with all the above issues)

The Staff were lovely and service was very good. However the bed was so uncomfortable I had to sleep on the floor. We canceled por second night so as to go home and get some sleep. The manager is dealing with our compaint. If it is delt with well we would return there as long as we could try the bed first! Lovely place though

Food was superb. Staff were superb and reasonable cost First room not centrally heated (this was December) Upgraded to better room where bathroom not centrally heated; indeed central heating was a problem in every bathroom. tv reception lousy, firework display on new years eve consisted of single firework (quite a good one but a little diappointing)

Good hotel in good location. Couldn'nt control hot water on shower. Website offered bar meal option, none available. Only option was a la carte which was expensive but very nice. Was good value at offer price of 80.00 per night B&B, but would never pay the 180.00 full price.

the fact that the dining area/bar was in another building. As it was cold it meant having to put coats on every time. Staff were unable to provide crisps/nuts while having a drink. Bedroom was cold, very draughty.

Good location. More character than a business hotel like a Hilton with friendly staff. I couldn't find the tv remote.

location was on main road near many shopping facilities but once inside the grounds of this grand hotel you could have been in the countryside. It was only a short drive to many surrounding villages and towns which made it very convenient for us. Great value for money.

Relaxing location, beautiful setting Food for dinner was average and a district lack of vegetables - I know mass catering is hard at this time of year but it seemd a bit odd to have a dinner with just a few beans on for veg

It was clean and the bed was comfortable. They had completely the wrong name on the booking form that was printed so if I hadn't had my booking confirmation with me we might have been turned away. We waited 15 minutes to check in. The shower screen did not work and so we ended up with a large puddle of water on the floor. We waited 30 minutes the next morning for breakfast which to be honest was not very nice.

Location is good, our room was of a good size. Breakfast was ok if a bit slow. Staff were ok. Fitted the description, more or less. Typical English hotel. Tired furnishings and decor, stained carpets, but basically clean. Residents bar being used by office party when we were there, but it's close to Xmas I suppose. I wouldn't really rush to go back, but it was ok for the purpose we wanted it for, I.e. Somewhere to stay overnight whilst attending a business function. Pity really as the location with the mill pond is nice, and a bit more thought might have it working better, but then what do I know about running hotels.

The hotel itself was fine, although the decor in our room was a little tired. The hotel staff are friendly and capable. Our experience in the restaurant, both at dinner and at breakfast the next morning, was a bit short of the mark for what we paid. The food is excellent: beautifully presented, tasty, good portion sizing - and deserving of its aa rosettes. The service, however, is not. I don't feel 20 minutes to be given a menu, half an hour for a drinks order to be taken or 45 minutes to make a food order (after having to ask) is acceptable. Neither was the exceptionally poor product knowledge of the waiting staff. Food redeemed the experience - but only just.

“What a beautiful hotel - especially all decorated for Christmas! My room was in the main building and was amazing. Also the steam room in the basement is very nice. I saw none of the things other reviews complained about except worn out furniture but its all antique.. you can't expect antique to be like new. The staff was very friendly as well. I've stayed in many hotels and this easily ranks as one of my favorite. Very happy I stayed here and if I ever have to go to Newbury again I will stay here.” Chris, Prangins |
