The hotel location was excellent, surrounded by lovely grounds. The Breakfast was very good.
I thought the evening meal was expensive for what you got.
Seperate building for breakfast.
Very efficient . Very friendly
Location and room were excellent
Christmas Party - food wasn't the best. However breakfast the following morning was really nice.
Helpfulness of the staff
Room was a little tired & in need of decoration
Evening meal and breakfast in restaurant. Lovely grounds in the summer.
Dated rooms that need some maintenance. The beds were also quite hard.
Lovely building and room was great
No room service, had to leave the building to the river restaurant to use the bar as there was no staff at the one in the hotel. The River Bar Restaurant was so Cold it would put me off staying at the hotel again. Its a shame as the food was good. The cold issue was well know to the staff who asked if we wanted a table next to the radiator! Only 2 other tables booked in the restaurant that night!
Setting. Rooms were lovely and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast and dinner on the Saturday night was really delicious. Receptionist helped with restaurant and cab bookings. Loved that you had to eat overlooking the river.
I know that the hotel is due for refurbishment with recent new owners, and am glad of that. The restaurant I believe will also be upgraded, but food is very good. Well done to chef and team. Would love to see a bar in main hotel - just a small comfy area but would be a big bonus for your guests. Should be back next year!
excellent clean room great staff Good food and excellent wine
Staff were excellent
Couldn't get wifi
Situation on the river.
All a bit tired now, bathrooms and decor will need updating. Nothing wrong with what's there but it's had its day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at this delightful little country-house-style hotel. The atmosphere is an eclectic mixture of the romantic and the prosaic! We booked the Carnarvon Suite for our Silver Wedding. The carved wooden 4-poster is magnificent, but the rest of the room is more ordinary (with an ironing board propped in the corner!) The quality of the food (both dinner and breakfast) was superb, as was the wine. The restaurant location is delightful: a separate building across a little bridge and surrounded by water, with full length windows so you can watch the ducks swimming past as you eat freshly cooked scrambled egg on toast. Highly recommended.
The weather. It poured with rain all weekend, so we couldn't take a walk in the pretty grounds, or along the river into the town.
Location, rooms, restaurant staff
Staff very friendly and helpful, there was nothing to find fault with . Everything was excellent. would stay again tomorrow.
Spacious clean rooms (though bit old fashioned). Near to Newbury Business Park (handy if you work there). Staff are helpful.
WiFi signal is a joke! You can browse web pages but watching video can be frustrating. You have to lock doors using a key which comes with massive holder! River bar restaurant is pricey.
The staff were very friendly and a cosy stay
We had a room with a balcony and it was gorgeous over looking the canal! The room was big enough for us!
Late night bar service was poor!
the room Staff 24hr help
the sign on the main road, looks very plain and ordinary for such a fantastic place
The bathroom was a bit chilly
The staff were very helpful and very friendly. It was our anniversary so they upgraded us to a room with a whirlpool jacuzzi
Plus points: Good Location (fairly close to town) Ample parking Lovely views
Poor plumbing in the room we stayed in (Room 29). Hot tap is very loose. Also flusher on the toilet is also loose. Hot water in the shower is scaldingly hot which is very dangerous in my opinion. Certainly not worth £99 for an overnight stay at this hotel. All very 80s which is fine but the basics need to be up to standard.
Restaurant was amazing. Good ambiance. Nice place.
Decor is a bit dated. Also the kettle couldn't be plugged in anywhere near to where the tea bags were (escept for boiling it on the floor).
The hotel is in a wonderful location and the food is excellent. Service and staff are very good.
Rooms are starting to get a little tired, but are very comfortable and clean.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff were very freindly
Nothing we would use the hotel again.
Room was good , staff helpful , location was excellent and will aim use the hotel for future visits to Newbury and surrounding area . Very good value for money
Nothing to dislike
