Score from 215 reviews Good
It was our 32nd wedding anniversary, upgraded to the bridal suite no extra cost. Staff fantastic, had a three course meal, every thing done to perfection, had a wonderful weekend.
Nothing to dislike.
The staff were very accommodating and nothing was a bother for them. Very helpful and friendly. Dogs were very much welcome and fussed over!
The hotel bar food was tasty and good value for money. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was very comfortable and clean. The view from the window over the garden was lovely.
The pool area was very basic with limited changing facilities. Only 1 person could change at a time and several guests were waiting. The hotel corridor carpets were also quite dirty and lots of cobwebs in corners. The room windows were quite dirty and lacked any safety features.
Garden very nice, and breakfast good
Blood on bed valance! Pool will Beatles in! Hi tub looks as though thirty people had pee'd in it! Water was a green/yellow! No air con, leave windows open and get thousands of small bugs on bedroom walls.
The stay was very nice and the staff were very welcoming. I do think the bedrooms are a little dated and so is the seating area located by the bar. The restaurant food was lovely and so was the decor. It is situated close to the lake and was very peaceful. Although early morning deliveries woke us up at 6.30am but I think this was just the room we were in as it was right on top of the bar area.
4 poster bed and jacuzzi great. Staff friendly and helpful
Hotel looking tired. We also had to ask for orange juice, cutlery and milk.
The food and staff excellent.
It is now looking very tired desperate need of revamp, but also keep its charm.
Good location with nice a friendly staff
Quite noisy, lots of squeaky floors in the room and corridors. We wasn't too keen with Breakfast. L.E.D mood light above the bed felt a bit tacky and out of character with the place.
Service and staff going the extra mile to make your stay memorable.
Brandy served in a whisky glass!
Roomy with a spa bath. location was good - away from the business of the Lake area but close when you wanted to go to the sights etc. Interesting place statues in the garden massively thick walls that could tell stories from way back.
Ate in for evening meal and we were forgotten 1 hr later after asking they quickly sorted it out and also gave us free coffee after. Next day they forgot our room - not made up when we got back - quickly sorted out though. The staff were very nice so strange that these things happen - need the whole team working together.
massage bath doesn't work
The hotel is very well located on the lakeside and easy to find. We enjoyed the bar meal and drinks and really good service .
Free Upgraded to a 4 poster room but this ment we stayed in the builing across the way so you get wet going for breakfast. Cleaner left door unlocked after cleaning .mold in bathroom and door needed painting (36). When you go to the pool there is 1 male and 1 female changing area so if some 1 is in you have to wait to get changed ( no waiting area )
Easy location from our starting point;it was convenient, and it allowed us to take our dog, which was the main reason for booking.otherwise we`d have stayed at The Swan across the road, super spot by the marina.Bar food was fine.Staff OK.A good starting point for the Lakes if you`ve travelled a distance, but there are no frills!
Tired decor, both outside and in.The hotel was at the side of a very busy main trunk road, so not easy to walk to/from the hotel with a dog. Also, Newby Bridge has nothing at all except the bridge!
food was good,staff very pleasant.
room in the annex which we didnt know. room smelled very damp. room wasnt made up. drinks not replenished and towels not replaced. at 5oclock member of staff called at the door to ask if he could get us anything. invited him and said he could sort the room. he offered to empty the bins and complained he should have finished work an hour before. he emptied one bin and then left a quick as he could!
Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Lovely old quirky feel to the hotel. -ve reviews are probably people who prefer premier inns - this place has a bit of charm. Didn't have time for the pool but saving it for next time I visit.
Wifi access is a bit limited and this needs to be sorted. I did discuss this and was told BT upgrading the line in. When done the hotel is looking to get wider wifi that just the bar / lounge area
food excellent swimming pool good and pleasant staff dog freindly
rooms nd upgrading and carpet in 38 was filthy with iron mark on position not good for walking
food and menu choice, although not a lot if your a veggie. Large room was lovely and quiet, blackout curtains. ironing facility with built in board in a drawer.
New vacuum is definitely needed to clean the whole room not just the carpet around the bed, very dirty under and behind chairs, table etc
Family room was a good size with a proper bed for our son Quiet Dark curtains so did not need blackout blind Swimming pool which children could use too Garden to run around in
Tea only served from six (late for young children) but we had a nice meal at somewhere else within walking
Great staff and breakfast was really good as was the location
The hotel desperatly need modernising , the floor boards made a terrible notice was like a haunted house !! Bathroom poor in that no proper shower. Sorry
the staff where great, all presentable, and helpful. Bedroom was warm and comfortable and breakfast and bar meals good and tasty
bathroom didnt have shower
This hotel has an excellent position overlooking the river at the southern tip of lake windermere with felfoot park just around the corner - the staff were really friendly and very accommodating, flexible bar hours; very dog friendly! Hotel is very grand albeit a little tired but is brilliant value for money! The negative reviews do not do this hotel justice, it even has a pool and Jacuzzi - will definitely return and would recommend the Rotunda room! Big thank you to all the staff!
Easy to find. Receptionist was lovely, and although we arrived early she checked whether our room was ready and got us straight in (I'd only really gone in to let them know we were there and were going to leave our car there while we went for a wander!). My daughter (9) was allowed to use the jacuzzi, which has not been allowed in other hotels. There were no signs everywhere saying that children under 13 have to watched at all times, so I was even able to go into the steam room while she swam around. Consequently, we spent a fair amount of time in there, rather than me getting bored after 20 minutes because I'm just bobbing around keeping an eye on her :-) Food was gorgeous. We ate in the bar both nights, and you could tell that the food was not bought in frozen stuff. Good portions, and a reasonable price for quality home-cooked food. Self-service breakfast, which again was fab. I'd booked a double but asked if we could have twin beds, and they'd upgraded us into a family room with a double and a twin, which was great. Lovely fair trade coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and sugars in the room. Iron and ironing board, and hairdryer provided. Telly with your basic channels, but it had BBC for "Bake Off", and Channel 4+1 for the Sarah Beeny programme :-D Dogs are allowed in the hotel and in the bar area where people are eating, so that's either a positive or negative, depending on whether you like dogs! I personally didn't mind.
Not really close to any local facilities (that we could find, anyway, although in fairness we didn't ask), so if you'd wanted to buy, for example, a bottle of water before you went walking, there wasn't a local shop nearby. There didn't seem to be an easy way out into the gardens, although again it might be that we missed it. We ended up going out of the front of the hotel and walking round to the back. There was a large area which looked abandoned, so maybe a play area for children could be incorporated, which would just boost the child-friendliness of the place. It would have been lovely to sit out with my coke, but there's only so much sitting around that a 9-year-old wants to do. A bit shabby in places, and the taps in the bathroom with a bit loose, but for the price I paid it's not something I would actively complain about. I'd rather pay that price than have a shiny new bathroom and be unable to afford to stay there! And there's only one changing room (well, one for men, one for women) for the leisure area, which I can imagine causes some stress during busy periods. On the second day, we just went down in our cossies and chucked some clothes back on over them, rather than showering and changing down there. There seemed to be a lack of staff in the evenings. The poor girl behind the bar was run ragged; she was serving at the bar, delivering drinks to the restaurant (sometimes having to leave a queue at the bar), and on the second evening she was even bringing the food out to people in the bar. Consequently service was very slow. It was totally not her fault, but I could see that some people were getting very put out by the waiting. There are a lot of little steps up and down around the place, so it's not really very disabled- or elderly-friendly.
Please don't miss out on this wonderful Hotel, it has everything you want. The staff go out of their way to do anything and everything for you. Excellent food from morning breakfast right through too an excellent 3 course dinner. It's an easy reach for the South side of the Lakes
Location, The hotel accepts dogs and were very friendly. Liked the separate side room where you could eat breakfast whilst having your dog with you
internet down when we got there, we had to tell them our booking, partly shown to room at 4 o clock room still had not been cleaned from previous occupant, bar staff didn't seem to know what he was doing, had evening meal dumped in front of us and cutlery practically thrown at us, no condiments and had to ask for napkins. Breakfast no milk served with tea had to ask for it. although dining room was busy the buffet bar was empty even though there was a queue for hot food. staff didn't seem to be aware of what they were doing. Rear garden lovely but steps up to grass are paving stones stepped on the last one which was loose, it flipped up and hit in the back of leg, did report this to reception upon departure.no apology just told maintenance man was there so she would get him to look at it. Went to check out lady on reception had no idea what our booking was even though we had checked in with her the day before. credit card machine not working was told she would have to go outside to make a telephone call, fortunately managed to get enough cash together to pay our bill, was not given a receipt. This was supposed to be a one night away special treat as we both have very busy work schedules, but turned out to be a total shambles.
The company I was with, the gardens, the peace and quite
Half roll of toilet paper in room 21, restaurant manger was very dour faced when asked for iced water, no napkins or glasses for juice left at 9.20 staff were not very welcoming
