Score from 112 reviews Very good
The stay was very nice and the staff were very welcoming. I do think the bedrooms are a little dated and so is the seating area located by the bar. The restaurant food was lovely and so was the decor. It is situated close to the lake and was very peaceful. Although early morning deliveries woke us up at 6.30am but I think this was just the room we were in as it was right on top of the bar area.
4 poster bed and jacuzzi great. Staff friendly and helpful
Hotel looking tired. We also had to ask for orange juice, cutlery and milk.
The food and staff excellent.
It is now looking very tired desperate need of revamp, but also keep its charm.
Good location with nice a friendly staff
Quite noisy, lots of squeaky floors in the room and corridors. We wasn't too keen with Breakfast. L.E.D mood light above the bed felt a bit tacky and out of character with the place.
Service and staff going the extra mile to make your stay memorable.
Brandy served in a whisky glass!
massage bath doesn't work
Easy location from our starting point;it was convenient, and it allowed us to take our dog, which was the main reason for booking.otherwise we`d have stayed at The Swan across the road, super spot by the marina.Bar food was fine.Staff OK.A good starting point for the Lakes if you`ve travelled a distance, but there are no frills!
Tired decor, both outside and in.The hotel was at the side of a very busy main trunk road, so not easy to walk to/from the hotel with a dog. Also, Newby Bridge has nothing at all except the bridge!
food excellent swimming pool good and pleasant staff dog freindly
rooms nd upgrading and carpet in 38 was filthy with iron mark on position not good for walking
food and menu choice, although not a lot if your a veggie. Large room was lovely and quiet, blackout curtains. ironing facility with built in board in a drawer.
New vacuum is definitely needed to clean the whole room not just the carpet around the bed, very dirty under and behind chairs, table etc
Family room was a good size with a proper bed for our son Quiet Dark curtains so did not need blackout blind Swimming pool which children could use too Garden to run around in
Tea only served from six (late for young children) but we had a nice meal at somewhere else within walking
Great staff and breakfast was really good as was the location
The hotel desperatly need modernising , the floor boards made a terrible notice was like a haunted house !! Bathroom poor in that no proper shower. Sorry
the staff where great, all presentable, and helpful. Bedroom was warm and comfortable and breakfast and bar meals good and tasty
bathroom didnt have shower
Please don't miss out on this wonderful Hotel, it has everything you want. The staff go out of their way to do anything and everything for you. Excellent food from morning breakfast right through too an excellent 3 course dinner. It's an easy reach for the South side of the Lakes
Location, The hotel accepts dogs and were very friendly. Liked the separate side room where you could eat breakfast whilst having your dog with you
internet down when we got there, we had to tell them our booking, partly shown to room at 4 o clock room still had not been cleaned from previous occupant, bar staff didn't seem to know what he was doing, had evening meal dumped in front of us and cutlery practically thrown at us, no condiments and had to ask for napkins. Breakfast no milk served with tea had to ask for it. although dining room was busy the buffet bar was empty even though there was a queue for hot food. staff didn't seem to be aware of what they were doing. Rear garden lovely but steps up to grass are paving stones stepped on the last one which was loose, it flipped up and hit in the back of leg, did report this to reception upon departure.no apology just told maintenance man was there so she would get him to look at it. Went to check out lady on reception had no idea what our booking was even though we had checked in with her the day before. credit card machine not working was told she would have to go outside to make a telephone call, fortunately managed to get enough cash together to pay our bill, was not given a receipt. This was supposed to be a one night away special treat as we both have very busy work schedules, but turned out to be a total shambles.
Had a lovely few days stay, reception staff was lovely, very helpful and friendly, breakfast was good, couldn't really fault anything
GOOD location;near to LAKESIDE. Pool and sauna/jacuzzi. Very English. Near to RIVER.
Same breakfast for 2 days. NO LIFT. plenty of doors to go thru to get to your room.
Swimming pool and spa.
Good breakfast! Too expensive though.
Room was stuffy and hot and only one window, which had kitchen exhaust fan directly underneath it, smelly, and room needed maintenance in several areas. Bathroom fan did not work and steam had to go out into bedroom. The whole hotel needed a lot of maintenance, quite dirty and unpleasant in some places. In the room the tea and coffee making area was too small to use properly. The carpet in our room wasn't vacuummed the whole week we were there, and some rubbish on the floor from previous occupants.
Nice location neat the Lake. Accommodation clean and comfortable.
No gym to speak of.
Cottage bedroom Breakfast
Tired looking carpets
Swimming pool and comfortable bed, staff friendly
Plaster coming off ceiling in bedroom (15), wallpaper peeling off, excessive dust on skirting boards, only one cup in room (double room), had to ask for second cup, then had to collect it from reception. Meals overpriced for what they are. Walls and woodwork around pool badly need attention, carpets badly worn in places. Wi Fi in bar area only. Plants growing out of the chimneys and guttering! We have been going to Newby Bridge Hotel for at least the last 15 -16 years and have always thought it excellent (have also stayed in sister hotels, Riverside and Damson Dene, but always thought Newby Bridge the best). We were unable to come last year, but this year we were so disappointed, the hotel is in real need of refurbishment, it is sad to see somewhere we used to love becoming run down. Unfortunately we will not return until this has happened as in it's current state it is not value for money.
Location of the hotel is good, close to river with the river wiew. It has a nice and big garden, comfortable hotel .
The breakfast is not good who doesn't like English breakfast.
Facilities: ie ... Pool, jacuzzi , ect.
Old leaks not repaired in ceiling in the bar, filthy stained sofa in bedroom, sticky bathroom floor, cobwebs in corner of room, food in bar very poor!.
Situation I requested an early check in but was given no confirmation before arrival. I was able to check in early on the day but was concerned that no room would be available when I got there. I was attending a wedding and it was imperative that I had access to a room to dress for the occasion. In such a large hotel I find it baffling that they could not assure me of anywhere in the hotel to dress for an early afternoon wedding.
No certainty of anywhere in the hotel being available to dress for an early afternoon event. The bath room was situated in the T-fall of the roof. It was squeezed into the space and was unpleasant. The bathroom was dirty and full of spiders and cobwebs. I was not shown around the hotel and no one informed me of amenities, such as the pool, or where they were. I was not greeted well in the morning when I went for breakfast . The staff did not smile or exchange any pleasantries. I felt the only thing they were interested in was getting me out as fast and with the least effort possible. It was a Sunday morning and I was I looking forward to sitting back and enjoying a leisurely breakfast. this wasNOTmy experience
Great hotel. Location is brilliant. Staff were lovely especially receptionist. The room was a family one and was really good size with a huge bathroom. Our room was lovely and modern so not sure about the complaints on here about needing updating because we thought it was brilliant. Food in the bar was ok but a little pricey for average pub food.
The only complaint we had was the smell in the room was very "doggy" both windows were open wide when we arrived. But it's a hotel that welcomes dogs and didn't bother us too much since we have them at home anyway. But for travellers who are not dog fans could be an issue. Also the pool was cleaned with chemicals, whilst we were in it - with our little boy. Not great as the chlorine was so strong it made our eyes water so must have affected him. Obviously we got straight out. Could have waited for us to leave the area first he's only a toddler and that would have been more health and safety conscious surely?
