This is the fourth time my wife and I have stayed at this hotel (since the closing of The Grosvenor) and will be staying there again. Many reasons; cost; location; friendliness of the staff etc.

Friendly staff, pleasant location although a little noisy at night. Good restaurant Scalini's located on site. This is important to fe-male travelling alone. Room decoration and furnishings a little dated and a bit shabby. Carpet in corridor very stained but other corridor carpets new and smart. No information in room. Parking not secure.

Some of the rooms looked amazing, the place was also being refurbed (did not affect our stay at all) so I assume our room will be done by now and no longer a problem. The staff were friendly and polite. Over all it was a lovely stay. 2 restaurants and a bar within the hotel and plenty of bars nearby. A waitrose just up the road. All within 2 minutes walk. The city centre is a 5 minute taxi, metro or bus ride away. Tv was great plenty of channels, wi fi in rooms Our room being a budget room had a few issues gap in carpet, really noisy bed (staying as a couple to get away from kids etc. for a night, this was a problem). Cream for coffee was off. Really noisy running a bath which in our case at 3am may have been a problem for others.

An inviting reception area and friendly staff The decoration was very tired generally other than the reception area, but especially on the corridor leading to the bedroom and the room itself. I felt as if I was in an inferior room as I walked from the pleasant area into the area around my room. Once in the room I noticed that two light bulbs were out, one at the bedside next to the window and the light immediately on entering the room. This made it quite dark and uninviting. The net curtain had a mark on it and the bathroom sink had a leak. I was only there for 1 night and so did not complain, but would not return again especially when there are so many hotels in the local vacinity to choose from!

Location was good, nice bars and restaurants creating a good atmosphere. We booked a twin room but ended up having to share a double room for three nights. Reception staff seemed unable to try to accomodate our requirements. Breakfast was extra to room rate which was quite high and should have really been included. Limited car parking on site despite advertising free parking. No mention to building work when booking.

The staff were really friendly to me and the group I was with. The hotel was nice and modern and in a nice area. Breakfast was really nice for a hotel and the adjoining bar was busy and good value.

Good size rooms, Close to nice restaurants and bars. will definatly return to enjoy the local facilities when we have a weekend away again. Need welcome packs in room. To explain times for breakfast and opening hours for restaurant etc. We had a superior double so would have expected biscuits on the tea tray and bath robes for example. Otherwise really great hotel !

The extra bed that was in the room (paid £30 extra) was not that good. It kept unfolding and the slats moved throughout the might and was rather small for an adult really.

I like the location as its close to Heaton and close enough to walk to the City Centre. The bar is good and reasonable. Easy to answer. there was no 'Residents Bar on the nights that we stayed. Absolutely scandalous situation particularly as we left a pub in the city centre to meet up with the remainder of our party for a Sunday evening drink in the Hotel. When we arrived there at 10.30pm we were shocked to be told that bar and the 'Residents Bar' were closed. This ruined not only our night but the whole weekend. Needless to say I will not be booking the 'New Northumbria' again after staying there on several ocassions in the past nor will any of my family and friends. In fact a colleague of mine is travelling to Newcastle soon with family and I had recommended this hotel, unfortunately when I see him on Friday I will be advising him not to book the 'New Northumbria'.

It has character and is is in a lively, attractive suburb. The bars have a good atmosphere and are always full of young people. There are some local facilities and restaurants. Parking is off road but limited. Good free WiFi. - though passcode expires everyday. The rooms are going through a refurbishment program, so some of them are still looking tired and a bit scruffy. The price differential does not reflect this, as it should. The bar meals are atriocious quality. However the Italian style Sicilian restaurant is highly recommended. .

Good hotel in a lovely part of Newcastle. Staff were pleasant, the room was well decorated, comfortable and even had a small fridge. Would stay there again - very good value for money as it was only a little more expensive than the Travelodge but much nicer.
