The ivy-covered Scotch Corner Hotel is ideally located at the A1/A66 junction in close proximity to Darlington and Catterick. Newcastle, York, Leeds and Middlesbrough are just a short drive away.
Score from 401 reviews Excellent
Quiet room as requested Close to motorway for onward journey Standard Holiday Inn, no nasty shocks.
Surrounding area not too hot Not very clearly signed
The beds are beyond comfortable!
At breakfast, we couldn't find any coffee..after asking coffee from the breakfast staff, we were left waiting bit too long.
Friendly staff Comfortable Clean Room Good TV - all freeview channels Nice sized shower - seat in shower useful touch Plenty of tea and coffee in the room Bed was large and comfortable
Was not able to connect to the wifi. the touchdown page did not work correctly on my Windows 8 phone.
Helpful staff. Shortish drive into Darlington. Newspapers delivered.
Noise from nearby motorway. Room key needed to be re-programmed every day.
Convenient location, comfortable room, clean and well maintained throughout. Wifi that actually worked. Friendly and pleasant staff makes such a difference.
Some traffic noise, but to be expected due to location right next to A1, massively outweighed by all the good points
Location is good due to motorway proximity. Room was clean and had lift to all floors. Has access to food if required either in the hotel or walking distance to a fast food outlet. Good for a one night stopover only.
Tired decor in room, broken light fittings and defective hair dryer ( cuts out after 10 sec due thermal cut out) loose toilet seat. Reported but no maintenance staff available. Motorway noise could be a problem with closed windows in summer due to the heat. Food prices were dear for the available food in the restaurant/ Cafe.
Friendly and helpful Staff, Excellent power shower, Soft fluffy towels Good choice of pillows.
Breakfast hot food was not as hot as I would have liked. However, there was an excellent selection of everything else one could wish for.
Good food and welcoming
Could not fault it
staff were pleasant any helpful. The room was comfortable.
The booklet describing the facilities available was hidden away in a cupboard, Some of the facilities described didn't seem to be available. There was supposed to be a TOGO shop but we couldn't find it and the watt on duty didn't seem to know about it.
Whole place was clean and comfortable.
My wife ordered a Tuna salad for dinner. £8-50 for a salad that was no bigger than a side salad you would expect to get with a sandwich in a normal place. Not only was it small but it consisted of only rocket with a small amount of tuna and 2 small tomatoes cut in halves.Normally in a salad you would expect lettuce, cucumber, onion and some sort of dressing. When we complained to the manager and chef he told us that they have to make up all the meals from a photograph and weigh all products to "company specifications" !!! Value for money-----rubbish. Also the place is not sign posted very well.
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good location just off a1(m). Room comfortable and clean. Starbucks on site
Too many coach parties at one time made buffet breakfast crowded. Only a shower in bathroom.
Comfortable room, good bar area (liked the idea of board games....enjoyed a game of scrabble!) and good menu choice. Wanted to break our journey around Scotch Corner and this hotel was well worth the few extra miles beyond the junction.
Liked most of hotel- if I had to be 'picky' the restaurant had a bit of a cold feel. Maybe blinds at the windows would soften the look?
It was a very hot weekend and the air conditioning in the rooms waqs not working . Also the windows could only be opened a couple of inches .The staff didn't seem awareof the situation ,even when several guests complained .
Rooms were clean and tidy and hotel was very modern. Would recommend the hotel but do not eat there.
I was traveling with a group on business there should have been a z-bed put in the room that I was sharing but they hadn't. I ended up sharing a bed with a colleague. As for meal time; over priced and service was worse than I could ever have imagined. All bar one meal came out and we had actually finished before it arrived. Not even as much as a sorry "it's the chief" we were told. Also we waited almost 45 minutes before the food was served. Such a let down!!!
hotel was clean
the aircon didn't work..was like sleepin in a sauna
Staff food standard og rooms
Poor air con tv didnt work well rooms hsve no air flow no hair dryer mornibg call 30 minutes late
Very convenient next to motorway with lots of parking. Enjoyed restaurant meal and drinks. Room basic but comfortable and clean.
Pity air-con did not work as room temperature was too high throughout the night.
Staff very helpful and courteous
The meal was not up to its normal standard the bread that was provided with the pate was so hard IT could not be eaten or broken, the pate was supposed to have been chicken pate but it was more like smooth Ardennes pate. I will not be staying there any more with coach party’s taking priority
Staff very helpful, the restaurant breakfast and dinner were very good. Really like the bright and colourful areas for the bar and reception. The car parking is good
Our room was very pleasant, but extremely hot. We tried the air conditioning but it didn't seem to work. The radiator in the bathroom seemed to be turned on 24/7. We slept all night with the window open but it was very noisy (with cars nearby), and still incredibly hot. We couldn't wait to vacate the room the next day even though we had some spare time before out next desination.
Place is just too hot - rooms are suffocating
Hotel good but could not use my mobile phone no signal.
Could not get a signal for my voda phone mobile phone. Could not make or take calls would not book hotel again. i incurred extra costs using phone in the room
Very clean . Friendly staff
Recently refurbished. Everything in excellent condition and very clean. Easy access to the A1
Nothing - was spot on for my needs.
Air conditioner did,nt work
The room was clean and well equipped. The staff were very helpful.
The lighting in the rooms was quite poor. Need better light near the mirror. The entrance to the hotel had dead hanging baskets and gave a poor impression. The cooked breakfast was lukewarm though a good choice. Have stayed in this hotel before and standards have definitely slipped under the new management.
