Beautiful old house, the receptionist printed off a history of the house which was lovely, nice views, quiet location despite being near the road, exceptional staff, all that we meet were friendly and helpful, good sized room, bed comfy, lots of very hot water & a decent sized bath, room cleanliness good, didn't eat but menu looked tasty.
Room had a few issues, small TV; limited channels & picture quality could be better, one side of the sash window rope was broken, as was the soap holder in the bath, decor & furniture a tad tired & dated, though the new company is gradually updating the hotel, but the staff made up for all of this as they were simply lovely, & in a strange way it was nicer to stay in a Hotel with character & older decor instead of an ultra modern Hotel with no soul.
Photo booth Casino tables, although could have done with more room The hotel setting
Rude staff The bar ran out of Jack Daniels and wine very early into the evening. Our table was in a side room away from the main dining area. Food was neither presented very well or enjoyable to eat.
The staff were friendly enough
The tiny, ice cold and overpriced room.
Were very tired, shower in this day and age was very poor, no pressure at all, stained bath,
Lovely location Great Staff Restaurant food was great
Tired and dated decor Broken toilets and no showers Central heating pipes rattling at 3am non stop disturbing sleep
The location, building, grounds and above all the staff.
very comfortable hotel in a good setting
No complaints other than an issue with the dinner menu - but satisfactorily resolved
The building and gardens are great.
It's all a bit shabby and needs a bit of attention. Staff made us feel like everything was an effort - we were not made welcome.
The hotel receptionist asked if we would prefer a room with facilities for a disabled person when she saw that we had parked in a disability space. She changed our booking immediately and at no extra cost. This was refreshing, as usually the price increases. The room was also suitable for the non disabled partner.
Didn't like the temperature of the rooms. Too hot. The window cleaner woke us up and so did staff, however no warning to window cleaner coming. Downstairs was being refurbished or painted but no apology or warning of that either
Location and building
Desperately needs refurbishment and bringing upto standard
Fabulous wedding and food, staff were great.
Breakfast - what a let down, cold coffee, cold full English. Sausage and egg both hard- I was expecting grandure and instead was completely disappointed. What a shame it didn't live up to the whole surroundings, I don't stay in hotels often and could have gone home, wouldn't pay for their breakfast again!!
Building and grounds
Everything was excellent
The peace & quiet of the location, comfy bed, friendly bar staff.
Breakfast poor quality. Cheap toilet paper in room. No facility for cash back. Towels hidden in wardrobe. Hospitality tray in room very basic.
We really loved our stay at the hotel which was where the wedding was taking place of a friend. Our room was really lovely, light and airy and the bathroom spacious and really well equipped too. Customer service was terrific and they did their best to cater for my wifes gluten intolerance.
The initial reception welcome was fine with helpful desk staff. Car parking was fine. The shower worked well. The location was good with pleasant views from the rooms.
The hotel has seen better days. The furniture might have been state of the art in the 70's but now looked sad The rooms appeared to cleaned up to eye level, anything above that height was covered in dust. Sound proofing between rooms and the corridor and adjacent rooms meant we were disturbed by children running riot after 11pm. Breakfast was poor ( cold fish still raw in the middle, burnt croissant) no cold meats or cheeses, no yoghurts) all served in an uninviting atmosphere more like a cheap cafe than an hotel. The service was slow, and there were no menus on the table. When we were finally given one it was dirty and dog-eared and described items not available ( that was probably why they were not on the table to start with.) You'd do far better at a Pr****r inn.
Food selection was limited and expensive for what you got
the location of the hotel plus you can around in fresh and clean air,the breakfast was delicieus finally the staff were friendly and helpfull.
away from the river
Supplied rubber bath mat in the bathroom, and plenty of towels. Tea and coffee facilities in room. Wi-Fi in our room was good and free. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
Bath enamel was chipped. Toilet didn't really flush well.
breakfast and dining room is fantastic with wood panelled walls. the grounds and all of the communal areas of the hotel really, are beautiful. staff are very very good and very helpful. breakfast is fantastic. make sure you book a breakfast for £10 on checking in if bookings.com offer you a £24 per head breakfast option, as it did for me
the bath taps didn't work. well the cold tap didn't, and the whole fixture was coming off. the room was quite pokey and blandly decorated for such a grand and elegant looking hotel.
That the Hotel itself has a lot of History on it... the decoration was awesome, and there was even a ghost! (apparently is haunted :P)
There is almost nothing to do there...
Comfy bed, good location and pleasant gardens.
Room decor in need of upgrading, our room looked a bit tired. The restaurant was ok but the waiting staff abilities were a bit hit and miss. Bar prices extortionate.
The Shower was located not much higher than the bath taps, if you lifted it higher you lost what little pressure there was. There was no mini bar in the room. The pillows were very hard. The room was too warm and no ac. The front door was locked after we returned from a meal out and there was no one manning it.
Good view from the quiet room - both of which I had requested when booking. Good free car parking & good breakfast.
I found it annoying trawling through the website options re: rooms & breakfast. In particular to make sure it was a double room for TWO with breakfast. But that may be booking.com rather than this hotel.
Quiet comfortable room Helpful staff Good breakfast Help to find suitable table for wheelchair Good location
No disabled room with double bed. Had booked one but it turned out to be twin beds. Did mention this and staff responded very positively. We were given a spacious room and were able to get the wheelchair into the bathroom. With the help of our own shower board I was able to use the overhead shower in bath. During discussion at end of visit staff member was very helpful and said she would be highlighting the problem. Despite this we would recommend this hotel and stay there again.
