Less than a mile from York’s historic centre, this friendly hotel, built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase. There are good-value rooms and a restaurant and bar.
Score from 1256 reviews Good
Just metres from York Racecourse, The Newington Hotel is a 15-minute walk from York’s historical centre. With a swimming pool, restaurant and bar, the hotel also offers free parking and free Wi-Fi.
Score from 578 reviews Good
The 3-star Hedley House Hotel is situated in a quiet residential area, 500 metres from York Minster and 8-minute walk of York city centre, bus and rail stations.
Score from 242 reviews Very good
Overlooking the River Ouse, the Park Inn by Radisson is located in the centre of York. It offers air-conditioned rooms with flat-screen TVs, a riverside bar, a modern restaurant and on-site parking.

An easy walk to the medieval center of York
Cranky plumbing, indifferent food, cramped parking
Well situated. Nice friendly staff. Great value for money. Clean. Small room but had everything one needed - made the best usage of space.
decor is tastefully done obviously in black and white
Noisy bathroom. Too narrow stairs.
Breakfasts were beautifully cooked to order. Complimentary drinks in the fridge, re-stocked every day - and fresh milk for the complimentary tea and coffee. Very friendly staff, very helpful too.
The fact we were on the 3rd floor at the front of the hotel. A cut-through road runs straight in front of the hotel and the surface is VERY noisy! Noise stops about 12 pm but starts up again about 6.45am. I assumed we were at the front because we had a very good deal.
The location was really good. The staff were all polite and they delivered excellent service. Had a smashing time and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
I can't say anything bad about my experience.
breakfast was very good. staff were kind and helpful.
wifi didn't work properly. longer from city centre than stated on site. breakfast is not included, and cost more if not ordered in advance.
As above thought the location was great a mile or so which ever way you chose to go back to the minster!
Showers weren't great. Actually pretty poor!
Close to York Centre with a 10-15min walk and can't fault the hotels facilities. However, I would not stay again in any of the rooms at the front of the hotel due to road traffic noise. Apart from that a really nice hotel with helpful staff.
Road noise was a pain affecting a goods nights sleep!
urine stains on the matress!! apalled!
The room and en suite was clean fresh and very well equipped. The breakfast was great and there was lots of choice cold or hot. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
FHR of 4. Better to have a 5.
The hotel was gorgeous, the rooms lovely, a wonderful touch with the weather report on the breakfast menus, everyone was so friendly
Facilities Comfy bed Great staff Great location
We liked everything about our stay at the hotel. Reception friendly and courteous, food good quality (a little slow service) but waitress friendly. Bedrooms en suite excellent and compact and comfy
Only thing we did not like was breakfast served up to 9-30 am, should be till 10-00 am
No problems with the staff they were great. We stayed for 3 nights fri-mon. I'd say more because it was a really nice place but the cleanliness got to me
There was damp on our ceiling which I mentioned and they said they knew but obvs weren't bothered. I think the breakfast was slightly over priced for what I had. It said to put our towels in the shower if we wanted clean ones. We never got clean ones. In fact I don't think they bothered coming to clean our room the whole time they were there. They had also obviously missed corners of the room which had built up dust. And the blanket in the wardrobe had marks all over it
The breakfast and service was first class, really enjoyed the breakfast and the service was great
Room I had was very noisy. The head of the bed backed onto the toilet next door and every sound of someone in the toilet could be heard. Very embarrassing. The toilet in our room was very small I had ti go in sideways and I an not overweight I may add. We were wakened up at 6.30am because the room walls are so thin. No good value for money. I have stayed in many hotels all over the world and I was dissapointed in what I paid for my room
There was lots to like. The staff were friendly and helpful. The quality of breakfast was brilliant. We stayed in a triple room, which was beautifully decorated and clean. The facilities were great- complimentary fridge and coffee maker. The location of the hotel was brilliant, about 15 mins walk to town on a straight road leading straight to the Minster- couldn't get lost!!!!
Wifi was not great in the room we stayed, didn't bother me but might others. We were a little cold on one evening but unable to find where if at all we could put on the radiators or towel heater in the bathroom.
I liked the cleanliness and comfort of the hotel, the friendly staff, the free Wi-Fi in the room (it had a strong signal), the minibar (it was free and replenished every morning).
The lack of restaurants nearby. The restaurant in hotel Noir closed early in the evening and we arrived at 8pm ish. The hotel is in a nice neighbourhood but a bit far from the city centre (1 mile away).
Lovely setting and friendly staff, clean facilities.
Reception offered to book a taxi for our day at the races on the Saturday but then forgot - we sat waiting but had to take our car as it was too late to rebook. Spoiled our day out.
Dining room, both food and service Comfortable mattress Lovely towels Lots of hot water Pleasant and helpful reception staff Excellent location on regular bus route. Good housekeeping.
Small room, without a table or chair. Headboard that creaked if we moved. Dim lighting. Difficult to read. A small table with a lamp would have solved the problem.
We booked through booking.com booked a double classic room and the pictures made it out to be spacious but I wasn't spacious at all. Needed a good decorate. Didn't have a good nights sleep due to a buzzing noise coming from the room below. Breakfast was horrible. Parking for about 9 cars and had to park on a street which we didn't feel it was safe. Was meant to stay 3 night but only stayed for one wasn't happy at all.
Comfortable stay in walking distance of city centre and great full English breakfast. Will definitely stay again.
lovely staff , free mini bar, nice room, ironing board, kettle, coffee/tea making machine, everything you could need.
woken up at about 6 am with the sound of a generator which was continuous, a little bit out of York so got taxi into York as it was bad weather.
