From the moment we arrived at the hotel we knew we had found a great place to stay. You have everything within a short walk, from some local pubs to the City of York itself. And if you don't fancy that you can always just chill at the hotel Noir and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and surroundings. As you can tell me and my partner would have no problems with recommending a visit. We will be back soon..............

Great location, comfortable, great value for money. We had a compact room but had plenty of space including storage, the ensuite was excellent and we were not short of facilities - the room had everything (lcd Tv, clock radio/ipod dock, tassimo, mini bar, safe, iron & board, awesome bed).

Reception staff are incompetent, when checking in was given key to a room, we unpacked our things then went into the city. I then received a phone-call saying we had been given the wrong room so the hotel staff had moved everything out of the old room and into a new one. My boyfriend wasn't happy about this so called back and the staff promised us everything had been moved and put in exactly the same places. When we arrived back at the hotel w got the new room key, when we walked in we found all our stuff just laid over the bed, nothing was hung back up just thrown on the bed, resulting in the clothes for the next day all being creased. And the thought of someone else moving your underwear and personal things isn't the nicest feeling either. When we asked how it happened we were told they was more than 1 person with the same surname. It doesn't take a genius to ask first names as well when checking people in.

Location was ideal as it was only a ten minuite walk, car park great as behind hotel, reception and bar area clean and tidy, use of mini fridge. Good that the compact room had iron, ironbourd, hairdryer, safe and that there was also use of hair straightners if needed. Marks on walls, dust in light shades, noise from the main road was quite bad due to heavy traffice in addition cars were useing slip road to by pass traffice outside hotel sometimes at speed. Extra chair in compact room wasnt needed as this stoped the door from the bathroom opening fully.

The cooked breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. The Black and White decor was not that appealing but not a major problem just a matter of different taste.

Love the decor and cleanliness. Very chic and comfortable with a Tassimo coffee machine in room! Even though the hotel said check in by 11:00 pm, and we did not realize this until about 9:30 pm the night we were to be checking in, as we had lost track of time sight-seeing, we immediately rushed to York but did not arrive until after midnight. The doors were locked so we called, and the lovely owner answered and gave us the code for the front door and told me the key to our room was waiting on the front desk, gave me our room number and said he would see us in the morning. I apologized for getting in late to which he replied "not a problem! Enjoy our stay!" This, to me, is wonderful customer service and deserves praise, thanks and return business! I would recommend Hotel Noir to anyone visiting York, uk!

All as you would hope. Pleasant staff, room comfortable and as advertised. Walking distance from city. Facilities pleasant and easy to use.Would definitely consider booking again Not so easy to leave early on Saturday morning. Breakfast a little later, so staff come in later and getting out of the locked car park is impossible. No lift available.

The price is was very low - this does not mean it was cheap (though it was) this means exceptional value. Evening food was aveage - more than made up for by breakfast.

Very nice and helpful staff, lovely decor, very clean and a great location. Didn't like the coffee machine, a simple kettle would have been so much easier and probably more cost effective. I feel that the pods used are not environmentally friendly either as they contribute more to the land fill. The tea tasted like dust and was not very nice at all. I also only got half a cup and I like a decent full cup of tea each day. Please consider changing this. The older people in our group found the coffee machine impossible to use and needed help each time they wanted a drink.

Although not in the centre of York it was conveniently placed for walking, approximately 10 minutes, into the centre. The staff were helpful and friendly, there was also a small car park, so we didn't have to worry about where to park over night. The complimentary mini bar was a bonus and unusual to find - usually these are over priced! It was also well priced for the weekend away with friends.

The room was lovely, the four poster bed was huge and really comfy. Only stayed for one night but the attention to detail was there with everything. Breakfast was perfect. 10/10 hotel and would definitely stay again.

Good location, friendly staff, environmentally friendly. Considering lots of b&b around and a £90 per night room, we have to pay a relativly high price for the breakfasts, has really upset me.

We enjoyed staying here...this was our second stay. The room was nice and clean...the breakfast was lovely.. The only problem with the hotel is that we encountered was the receptionist...She was quite rude and would not let us check in because we arrived 20 minutes prior to check i.n time at 2pm.

Good, clean room, checked in early but staff were very accommodating. Free minibar is a nice touch. Chip-tag key opens room doors and front door after 11:30. We arrived back at 00:30 and chip-tag would not open front door. Hotel says reception staffed til 02:00 but there was no answer when I rang, saying we could not get in. Found someone after 20min. Looked around building for another entrance and found an easily accessible first floor corridor window (above flat roof next to a low wall) which was wide open at night. Water pressure in the shower is not good.

We liked the ambience of the hotel, - it is an old building with steep stairs and creaky floors! It has been given a 'black and white' 50's american film theme. The fridge and free bar is a very nice touch in the room. However, I would have preferred a kettle rather than the tassimimo drink making machine. Our room was very comfortable, and beds were very clean. We didn't have breakfast, so we cannot comment about that. Parking was available, and we took advantage of this and travelled into York on the Park and Ride bus service. York centre is about 10 minutes walk away, so is manageable if you are reasonably fit. The Park and ride stops at 8 0'clock, but taxis are availabe from centre if needed.

Very comfortable and low-key. Just far enough from the business of York (so it was quiet), but only a 10-minute walk to the city (so its location was very convenient).
