In a secluded courtyard in the heart of York city center, this charming hotel is half a mile from York Train Station and York Minster. It has a fitness center with a gym, saunas and an indoor pool.
Score from 1319 reviews Very good
The young lady that did the hotel reception and the restaurant service in the 2 evenings we were at the hotel was fantastic. Very professional, extremely efficient , very helpful and charming. Thank goodness for her.
The beds were very uncomfortable. The restaurant on both nights didn't have 2 of the allready small choices.
The location of the hotel was ok but the road is really congested during rush hour times
The room was totally over priced, stank like a public toilet, the walls were really not sound proofed we could hear every word and noise through the walls. The hotel does not provide a window covering on the bathroom so everyone passing can see the person in the shower. The bed was two singles pushed together and really firm we barely slept and considered sleeping in the car from 4am onwards. Despite all this the hotel charged £164 per night. As the women in the next room shouted at seven am it's just not worth it!
this is an old building with lots of character the stairs are steep and narrow . there was a problem with our room but we were upgraded without any fuss yes I would stay here again
The room was nice and comfortable, the WiFi was fast, the in-front-of-hotel-parking was very helpful, the breakfast was sumptuous....all good. Incidentally we saw Paris Hilton had also stayed there a while ago
The bathroom had a notice that the bathtub creates leakage in the room below. Hence only shower was to be used. They should have fixed such basic issues
breakfast was quickly served. Late evening receptionist friendly.
room was in an annex - felt like staying in a converted utility room. Bath old. Room cold on entry - heaters are efficient but it took time. Décor extremely basic. Turned up early, understood that a room was not ready, but just advised to go away and come back 2-11 - no offer of taking bags etc. Parking in car park full - next street was also fairly full and so had to park far down and walk back. On leaving, was simply asked if I wanted bill, no mention of asking whether everything was OK. Curtain rail broken and curtains unhooked.
Room needed some TLC. Shower door didn't close properly, shower head moved when it felt like it. No ventilation in room, only window was in toilet. Limited choice on menu, some things not available. No marmalade at breakfast. Hotel wants to be chic but is nowhere near that.
Cleanliness of room and breakfast was good.
Toilet overflow running all night, extractor fan whistling and thinness of walls and creakiness of building which meant we haerd amourous couple in ajoining room
The location of hotel to city center was about 15 minute walk, hotel staff were very helpful and the room standard was excellent, also the breakfast was lovely too.
There was slight dust and cobwebs on the lampshades but otherwise the room and bathroom was very clean. Also the room was lacking a full length mirror.
Well run hotel with helpful, friendly staff.
good location not to far to walk into York nice and clean
they need to pull the beds away from the walls somebody in the next room was at it for hours
The three beds in one room was a bonus not many hotels could offer us this within our price range. The breakfast was fantastic.
A bit further out from the centre of town than I would have liked.
We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is located about a 15 minute pleasant walk from the city walls. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.
The room was lovely and looked the part. Made great use of the space they had. Free minibar was a massive plus and lovely touch.
Bed although was a four poster was quite small and very creaky as soon as you moved. Large window on road which meant outside traffic noise came through easily. Walls were very thin.
Room is small staff is not that friendly.
108 pounds was way too much for this hotel. Never again
Design is quite funky.
The car park! Virtually impossible to get in it with a Ford Galaxy. Lots of stress getting it up the narrow driveway and into a space made for a mini. Not really walking distance to the centre of York.
2nd time of visiting so must be quite good
It was nice. Nice. That's all. Just nice. Good coffee machine and little chocolates in the room. Thick towels and bathrobes....and then I'm struggling....
This hotel suffers delusions of grandeur. The room was small and the four poster bed was nothing of the sort, merely a rickety modern metal effort from Ikea or the likes that you would buy your daughter when she hits her teens. No space left in the car park but street parking was ok. The soap dispensers didn't work properly in the bathroom. I'm going to stop here because I know me and I know I could go on and on and on until this sounds churlish and loses any credibility. In short, I would suggest the £206 for one night I paid was easily £80 too much, even for York. Oh, - and the "locally sourced" sausages they enthuse over taste of literally nothing at all. There, - I told you I'd spoil myself and end up sounding petty and bitter and twisted!
Nice sized room, fairly comfortable bed. Great to have a coffee / tea machine. Short walk into town.
Strange smell from the sink, so had to keep the plug closed. The shower was nice, but seemed to fill up the bottom quick, although it didn't flood, I think it won't be long before it does. Quilt was a bit too warm. But to be fair nothing above spoilt our stay, they are just observation points.
We enjoyed the area the hotel is in just a short walk to town, the breakfast's & very helpfull staff .
noisey guests arriving back late banging every door in the hotel also crashing up the stairs ,not managment's fault . Just know thought for other's.
Excellent location in quiet area within walking distance to Minster and Town centre (15-20 mins). Good sized room and well-appointed bathroom (shower only). Staff very helpful and friendly.
No window in the room, only light from glass-panelled door opening out onto outdoor passage. This meant for privacy having to keep curtains closed and lights on.Tassimo machine great for coffee (I've got one at home) but makes rubbish tea. Limited parking so get there early, leave the car and walk into town.
Location spot on Hotel room excellent value Very comfy bed Meal at hotel - amazing!!
Liked the black and white décor. Excellent breakfast
Noise from the road Noise when people above walked around. Bit of a walk from the city
Good points, the little touches like a free mini bar and Tassimo machine. Staff very pleasant
The room needs refurbishment badly! The beds were horribly hard,as were the pillows. The shower was poor. Our meal was lukewarm and bland. Sorry, I rarely write negative reviews but I feel I need to on this occasion.
- nice walk along the river or road to city centre - coffee machine in room and also a kettle for tea - staff were really friendly and helpful - nice Scottish soap products in bathroom
- n/a all was good
