Breakfast wasn't included in the price.
TV remote not working
We liked the welcoming, friendly and efficient staff. The location was ideal for the things that we wished to see and do in the Lake District. The food was excellent and we particularly enjoyed the Taste of Cumbria buffet.
Our room was a little on the small side but very comfortable. A second chair would have been welcome.
The hotel food was excellent and the children loved the swimming pool.
We were not impressed with the bed settee the mattress was a disgrace and felt that the springs were coming through the mattress! We are unable to use the bed settee and I did mention to reception on departure, which I should have mentioned after the 1st night!
The restaurant food was superb as was the level of service. Leisure facilities very good.
The standard B&B rate is rather high
spacious room and lovely pool. very handy for M6/A66 intersection
We were given an upgraded room. The dinner menu and food were good. Located just off the motorway.
The breakfast is too expensive. The restaurant was noisy and felt more like a cafeteria. We had a Nesspresso coffee machine in the room but no coffee 'pods' were provided.
Receptionists are lovely Spa & pool are great Room and personal touches are lovely. Room service was amazing! The food is beautiful. Espa robes are amazing!
Wifi was a bit poor but there is the option to upgrade to a paid service.
Stayed here a few times. I have four children and ur not cramped in the room, cookies for the kids are great.
the indoor swimming pool i also enjoyed the resturant
we did not have any coffee in our room. once i contacted reception they informed this would be rectified ,unfortunately it never was so dissapointing
Feeling of spaciousness inside, good food.
Very strong smell of cooking permeating entrance area when I arrived at mid-day.
Swimming pool was great ,the 7 year old twins loved it !
There was nothing not to like apart from the meals being too expensive
My wife and I enjoyed the location and the lovely swimming pool. The dinner and breakfast were very good.Polite attentive staff.
Very relaxed environment . Leisure facilities are good . Staff friendly
Pool facilities are brilliant Restaurant attached to the hotel was really good- really nice food Spa and restaurant staff were lovely and friendly.
The hotel advertised television with a range of channels including sky sports The television we had was a rubbish picture- very unclear- and some channels didn't work- for example ITV or film 4, so I wondered why advertise sky sports if it wouldn't be good quality picture anyway. Whilst the manager sorted it at the time - he told us to put a certain channel number on and he would change it to the channel we wanted on- but then you were limited to watching that if another channel wasn't working. We then had to call him up again as we got locked out of our bathroom- so after getting settled for the second time we had to get unsettled again to let him in. We then heard this banging noise (there was a wedding on and we could hear the band playing) so we struggled to get to sleep with that noise all night. For £145 per night (not including breakfast) it was not worth the money. We actually wanted to pack up and leave the hotel at around 10:30pm when we couldn't sleep due to the noise of the band, but my husband had had more than 1 drink with his meal and couldn't drive, or else we would have refused to pay and left.
Accommodated us to check-in early so we could prepare to attend a family wedding. Good location for same purpose.
Having to pay extra for breakfast (quite expensive) - so we found an alternative locally.
Doors slamming constantly
Comfie beds. Great sitting areas with log fires. Wonderful food and service. Pristine leisure facilities.
When we arrived (early) our room was ready. The staff were so very nice, the Spa was superb as was the food and all other facilities, so as the decor. We were impressed with our stay and would recommend Shire Hotels to anyone.
The look of the outside, if we hadn't booked in we would have driven past but glad we called in.
Standard of food very poor and very bland really disappointing
we were delayed getting to the restaurant and wanted to have a drink in the bar first, after informing the staff in the restaurant and being told that was fine we were constantly badgered to order and go to our table, once there I assumed the place would be full due to the need to rush, we were surprised that the place had many empty tables throughout the time we were there. I was not surprised for long after seeing minute the portions that arrived. No milk in fridge. Blocked toilet (they tried to unblock with sink plunger) not cleared as there was still excrement returning to the bowl after flushing (not ours as we had not used it.) complained to manager his reply was they had cleared it, his inference was we were wrong very small portions in restaurant. restaurant was like a through-fare to everywhere. toilet in room blocked
we had our young grandson with us we all had a lovely time will stay at the hotel again we could not get our grandson out of the pool.
we thought the bar prices for food was a bit expensive although the food was nice.
You should have an egg cooking bar and not some old fried eggs brought our from the kitchen The rooms were too ho to sleep even with the window open
Staff were excellent - very friendly and effeicent. Pool and spa very nice and location good.
Wifi wasn't consistent and sometimes slow. The outside decor does not do the hotel justice - looked more like a butlins than the luxury hotel it is.
